Kuang Ye’s eyes were full of smiles. “It’s my pleasure.”
Soon, the designer brought over the outfit: a suit made from the finest fabric, in a color deeper than the starry blue—like the night sky accompanied by stars. When Kuang Ye emerged dressed, the store was filled with gasps. He looked unbelievably handsome. Unlike the carefree and unruly vibe of the previous outfit, in the suit, Kuang Ye stood tall and poised, his every move exuding nobility and elegance. Standing next to Mu Wan, they looked like a perfect couple, as if they were born for each other.
Mu Wan decisively said, “I’ll take these two sets.”
Upon hearing her decision, the designer hurriedly took out the necessary tools and went to the fitting room to record their measurements. These were just sample garments, and the final pieces would be tailored according to their sizes.
Since the dress was long and trailed on the floor, it was a bit cumbersome for Mu Wan to walk. Kuang Ye noticed this and thoughtfully lifted the hem of her dress, offering his hand. “Lean on me.”
Mu Wan looked at the hand extended toward her, and her heartbeat inexplicably quickened a little. “Thank you.”
Their hands overlapped, and the atmosphere felt tender and flirtatious.
Kuang Shuyu watched the intimate interaction between Mu Wan and Kuang Ye, nearly grinding his teeth in frustration. What went wrong? Why had Mu Wan suddenly become so close with Kuang Ye? She had clearly liked him before.
Yuan Weiwei’s gaze stayed on Kuang Shuyu’s face, noticing his dark, almost frightening expression. She could hardly believe this was the usually gentle Kuang Shuyu. But the strange feeling only lasted for a moment, and he quickly returned to his usual self. Yuan Weiwei thought it was just her imagination and leaned in to say, “Shuyu, they’ve already found what they like. Let’s keep shopping.”
Kuang Shuyu smiled. “Okay, I’ll go tell them.”
As he turned, the smile on his face faded. With his current status, he couldn’t afford to offend anyone. The more pawns he had in his hand, the better.
Mu Wan was more than happy for Kuang Shuyu and Yuan Weiwei to leave. When she heard that he was coming to say goodbye, she gave him a perfunctory nod.
Kuang Shuyu: “…”
After the measurements were done, Mu Wan was ready to pay. Kuang Ye suddenly took her card. “I’ll pay.”
Mu Wan didn’t refuse; in this situation, it would be a bit embarrassing for a girl to pay. What she didn’t know was that Kuang Ye had secretly switched her card for his own and quickly paid for both sets of clothes. He could pretend to be obedient, but he wasn’t about to let a girl support him. He wouldn’t lose face like that.
After leaving the mall, it was already quite late.
Mu Wan had called the driver in advance, but the driver had texted saying there was heavy traffic and he might be a bit late. Kuang Ye took out his car keys. “My car is in the basement. Should I drive you home?”
Mu Wan thought for a moment. “Sure.”
On their way to the parking lot, a young man, who was shopping with his girlfriend, suddenly looked at Kuang Ye in surprise. His calm face gradually became excited. “You… You’re the ‘Wild God’ from ST, right?”
“I’m your biggest fan. Can I have your autograph?”
Kuang Ye: “…”
His gaming ID was just ‘Ye,’ so fans called him Wild God, but he didn’t like it. It felt like they were calling him a “wild” god, as in someone rough or unpolished.
The young man was completely immersed in the excitement of meeting his idol. Kuang Ye apologized to Mu Wan, saying “wait a moment,” and then went over to sign the autograph.
After the young man left, Mu Wan teased him, “Wild God?”
Looking at her bright, teasing smile, Kuang Ye couldn’t help but fondly ruffle her hair. “I’ll take you up a level tonight, Wild God style.”
The warmth of his palm disappeared almost instantly. Mu Wan instinctively touched her forehead, looking at him in confusion. That subtle sense of “breaking character” came back again.
After they got in the car, Mu Wan fastened her seatbelt. The car smoothly drove out of the mall, but suddenly Kuang Ye’s phone rang. Since it was connected to the car’s Bluetooth, it automatically answered, and Shen Le’s voice, sounding half-dead, came through like a zombie.
“Captain, when are you coming back? The kids are going to starve to death.”
Kuang Ye immediately knew that it was because the aunt who cooked for them at the base was on leave, and these lazy guys didn’t want to order takeout. They wanted him to bring food back.
“Starving to death is perfect timing. ST just got a new mid-laner.”
“No, please!” A chorus of groaning voices came from the phone. “The base lost power at noon, we can’t even take a hot shower, we’re seriously gonna die here.”
Kuang Ye: “…”
The manager had mentioned that the base’s electrical system was being repaired today.
“Captain~~~ I’m only 18, I’m still a kid!”
Kuang Ye: “…”
He gritted his teeth. “Send me what you want to eat on WeChat.”
Shen Le: “Got it, thanks Captain! Mwah!” Before hanging up, they could still hear him shouting at the other teammates, “Kids, hold on! The relief food is on its way.”
Kuang Ye hung up the phone angrily and muttered a curse under his breath. Shen Le was 18 this year, the youngest member of the ST team. He had just finished the college entrance exam last year and was currently taking a break from school, a rowdy troublemaker.
Kuang Ye focused on driving, unaware of Mu Wan’s dazed expression beside him. Her mind was racing, her thoughts going wild. “Can’t even afford to eat… Is this how esports players live? Do they really work this hard?”
It wasn’t surprising that Mu Wan took Shen Le’s joke seriously. Although she had played a few games, she knew next to nothing about the esports world. Plus, there was the attitude from the Kuang family, which they considered shameful. After much deliberation, Mu Wan tried to ask carefully, in a way that wouldn’t offend Kuang Ye.
“Kuang Ye… for you esports players, what’s your salary like?”
Kuang Ye: “…”
As soon as he heard the question, he realized Mu Wan had misunderstood. He couldn’t help but chuckle a little, pretending to speak in a serious tone.
“Three thousand.”
Mu Wan’s mouth dropped open, her voice incredulous as she raised it. “Three thousand?”
That wasn’t even enough to cover the cost of the skirt she had just tried on. She realized she had underestimated Kuang Ye’s struggles.
Seeing that Mu Wan had truly believed him, Kuang Ye chuckled softly in his throat. Just as he was about to explain, Mu Wan pulled a card from her bag.
“Here, this card has three million on it.”
The black car, which had been driving smoothly, suddenly swerved into an S-curve. After the car stabilized, Kuang Ye looked at the bank card extended in front of him, and three words popped into his mind.
“Made a mistake!”
