After finishing the IV drip, Su Mo hurriedly rushed to Su Ailian’s hospital room.
As soon as she came out, she realized that both the room she had been in earlier and the one where Granny was staying were VIP rooms.
Did hospitals now arrange VIP rooms for patients after surgery?
“Why am I in a VIP room?” Su Mo turned to ask Wei Ke’er.
“I don’t know,” Wei Ke’er pouted. “By the time I arrived, you and Granny had already settled in the room. I just got here, and you woke up. I thought you arranged this, so I didn’t ask or think too much about it.”
“So, that means Professor Lu must have arranged all this?”
Wei Ke’er shrugged, as if unsure, “Probably. Who else could it be? But honestly, I do feel that Professor Lu is being a bit too kind to Mo Mo.”
This kind of kindness from a stranger made people uneasy. Clearly, Su Mo felt the same. She stood outside the room, with a complex expression. She knew the best thing to do now was to ask the hospital to switch to a regular room, but thinking of Granny needing to rest after surgery, she hesitated.
Just as she was torn, Lu Qingze walked out of the elevator, followed by a group of doctors, all department heads from the hospital.
Lu Qingze was talking to one of the doctors, his profile perfect, but lacking the usual gentleness—replaced with an air of authority.
“Mr. Lu, please don’t worry. Old Mr. Lu’s blood pressure is a bit high, but there are no other issues. The rest of his physical indicators are fine. The high blood pressure is likely due to exhaustion; rest should help…”
It turned out that Professor Lu had come to the hospital because his father was here.
Su Mo thought to herself, standing still as the group passed by. Originally, she had intended to thank Lu Qingze, but as the group walked by, Lu Qingze remained focused on talking to the others. She didn’t want to interrupt, so she could only watch as the man, who seemed to always be surrounded by people no matter where he was, passed by her.
The cool mint scent hit her nose, refreshing and pleasant, making her feel unexpectedly comfortable.
Su Mo’s gaze followed his figure.
It was the first time she had seen someone whose coldness and warmth blended so perfectly.
It wasn’t jarring, nor did it feel out of place.
She had to admit, men who were handsome were just… handsome, no matter how you looked at them.
But knowing he was handsome didn’t change the fact that his presence was so overwhelming that being around him always made people feel uneasy. It made people instinctively want to shrink back.
Especially when his gaze landed on you.
Like now.
After brushing past Su Mo, Lu Qingze suddenly turned around and met her gaze.
Su Mo flinched, her eyes darting away in a panic, as if she had been caught sneaking a look.
Seeing her flustered, Lu Qingze, whose lips were usually pressed into a straight line, let out a slight smile.
“What are you standing here for? Aren’t you cold? Go put on your coat.”
Su Mo quickly nodded and turned into the room, putting on her down jacket.
Inside the room, Su Mo took a few deep breaths, her gaze fixed on the watch on her wrist. For a full thirty seconds, she watched the second hand tick, and as her heartbeat gradually settled, she felt that Lu Qingze had probably already left. Only then did she open the door again.
However, to her surprise, as soon as she stepped out, she saw Lu Qingze still standing in the same spot, and everyone else had turned their attention to her the moment she opened the door.
“Professor Lu,” Su Mo said, surprised.
“Mm.”
It seemed that he was just confirming whether she had put on her coat. Seeing her come out, Lu Qingze nodded in satisfaction. “I’m in the room at the end of the hall. If you need anything, come find me or call me.”
“No, it’s already been too much trouble, Professor Lu. I can handle the rest myself.”
Su Mo instinctively refused, and after saying it, she felt a sudden sense of relief. She didn’t want to owe too much to a stranger, especially after he had already helped her once or twice. She couldn’t take more.
Lu Qingze’s cold brows furrowed slightly, but in the end, he didn’t say anything and turned to leave.
As he walked away, the group of people followed closely behind, with Lu Hua lagging behind. As he passed by Su Mo, he gave her a look.
She was the first girl to reject his master’s kindness, wasn’t she?
Well… it could also be said that this was the first time his master had shown interest in a girl, but still got rejected.
“Mr. Lu means no harm, Miss Su, you don’t need to be so defensive.”
Lu Hua kindly said, and Su Mo replied, “Thank you.”
Her response was polite and distant, just like her earlier rejection.
Lu Hua coughed lightly to mask the awkwardness before turning to leave.
Although he knew his master meant no harm, from the perspective of this girl, the help from a near stranger did feel a bit sudden.
If even he felt it was sudden, then no wonder the girl herself felt the same.
Once everyone left, Su Mo let out a long breath.
Professor Lu’s presence was truly overwhelming.
It hadn’t been obvious before, but in that brief moment earlier, she felt like Wei Ke’er’s description was spot on: his eyes hid a snow mountain, his gaze cold and distant, like ice that hadn’t melted in a thousand years.
“Mo Mo, you don’t have to reject him so quickly,” Wei Ke’er suddenly said, “Maybe we really misunderstood him.”
“With all those experts around him, if he could help take care of things, you and Granny won’t have to worry about being treated poorly in this hospital ever again.”
Su Mo shook her head, “We’re not even related, so it’s not right to keep troubling him. Granny’s surgery is already done. I can handle the rest. I don’t want to owe anyone too much, and I don’t want to cause any unnecessary misunderstandings.”
“I see. Then it’s better to keep a clear boundary,” Wei Ke’er said, “Let’s go, let’s go, stop standing here. Let’s go see Granny.”
Su Mo bundled up in her coat and walked into Su Ailian’s room.
At the end of the corridor, Lu Qingze had arrived at Old Mr. Lu’s room. Suddenly, he stopped and turned back, looking at Su Mo to confirm that she had entered the room before he stepped into the room himself.
Author Notes:
Jiu Jiu: Congratulations to Lu Shao for finally taking the first step in being rejected.
Lu Qingze: …
Jiu Jiu: Aren’t you upset?
Lu Qingze: What do you think?
Jiu Jiu: It’s okay, you’ll get used to it. Anyway, you’ll probably be rejected many more times.
Lu Qingze: …
