The door was opened by a caregiver.

“Little one, who are you looking for?”

The child was clean and adorable, with a soft and cute face, dressed head to toe in branded clothes, radiating an air of sophistication that immediately signaled he wasn’t from an ordinary family. The caregiver’s gaze softened, and she smiled.

Actually, she had been complaining in her mind about how this patient assigned to her by the hospital was terribly poor. Usually, working in a VIP ward meant some nice perks, but this time she was stuck with someone who didn’t seem to have any money. She was just getting frustrated when she saw this little boy who clearly came from a wealthy family. Her eyes lit up. Even if she didn’t get anything from him, getting to know someone rich would be fine.

“Who are you looking for? Did you walk into the wrong room? Auntie can take you to find them.”

“Hello, Auntie. I’m looking for Su Auntie.”

Su Auntie? The caregiver paused for a moment before realizing. Was he looking for Su Ailian’s granddaughter?

“Is Su Auntie the pretty girl you’re talking about?”

“Yes, yes, she’s really beautiful.” Every time Lu Zining talked about Su Mo, he felt an overwhelming sense of pride, as if her beauty had something to do with him.

The caregiver smiled. “Little one, you’re a bit unlucky. The Su Auntie you’re looking for just left.”

“Ah?” Lu Zining’s eyes immediately widened in frustration. He had rushed over as fast as he could, but Su Mo had already left?

He pouted, feeling dejected, and Uncle Zhong, who had been standing behind him, nodded toward the caregiver. “May I ask, will Miss Su be coming back today?”

“She will. She’ll be here tonight to accompany her grandmother, so she’ll come back soon.”

“Oh, great! Uncle Zhong, do you think we should go down and buy a bouquet of flowers? Also, do you think I look handsome enough in this outfit? Should I go buy something new? I think I got a little dirt on it at the kindergarten. Let’s go buy me something nice!”

“Also, girls love chocolate, right? Let’s buy some chocolate for Auntie!”

Lu Zining eagerly tugged at Uncle Zhong, excited to leave.

Uncle Zhong couldn’t help but laugh at his enthusiasm. In all the years he had known the young master, he had never seen him like this over anyone.

“Alright, we can do all of that, but we need to go see the old master and old madam first.”

Lu Zining immediately deflated, dejectedly looking at Uncle Zhong.

“Don’t worry, your Su Auntie will be here all night. We can go buy those things later.”

“Fine, let’s go check on them first.”

As they entered the room, Uncle Zhong saw Su Ailian lying in bed and nodded to her. “Please rest well.”

“Ah, thank you.” Su Ailian immediately recognized Uncle Zhong as the person who had brought her to the hospital earlier. She smiled and expressed her gratitude from the bed.

Uncle Zhong nodded again, then took Lu Zining toward the end of the hallway.

The caregiver sat down next to Su Ailian’s bed with a smile.

“Your granddaughter is really impressive. She’s so young and can afford to get you a VIP ward like this, and she even knows such rich people.”

Su Ailian smiled, pride evident in her eyes. “Yes, Mo Mo is really talented. She just signed a contract with a big director to act in a movie. In the future, she’ll be a huge star.”

“Really?” The caregiver smiled as well. “That’s great. I guess it won’t be hard to get an autograph in the future. But I heard that those celebrities and rich people—they have pretty chaotic personal lives. Especially those wealthy types who like to keep little stars as their mistresses. You should make sure your granddaughter is careful.”

The caregiver’s comment was ambiguous. She sounded like she was just giving a friendly warning, but it seemed like there was more to it, a suggestion hidden in her words. She acted like it was no big deal, but Su Ailian felt uneasy.

“Why don’t you go get some water?” Su Ailian asked, her tone slightly off.

The caregiver glanced at her, then left the room with the water pitcher. As she walked out, she hummed under her breath. The woman probably had a rich benefactor but was still pretending like nothing was going on.

Su Mo had made some porridge at home and had arrived at the hospital around 7 PM.

As she entered the lobby, she spotted two people exiting the elevator in the distance.

Lu Ziye and Liu Yiyi.

Su Mo’s brow furrowed instantly. How was it that she kept running into these two?

She quickly glanced around and hid behind a group of people. Watching them walk past, chatting and laughing, she let out a sigh of relief.

Some people—it’s not that she couldn’t meet them, it’s just that seeing them would only make her sick. So why bother?

After they had passed, Su Mo came out from behind the group and walked toward the elevator at a slow pace.

At that moment, it was peak time for the hospital’s meal deliveries, and the lobby was crowded. Su Mo stood by the elevator, waiting, unaware that just as she was standing there, a man hurriedly ran in from outside.

Lu Ziye had realized he left the car keys in his father’s hospital room after he’d gone out. So he rushed back, just in time to stand by the elevator with Su Mo.

At first, he thought the back of the girl in front of him looked familiar. But it wasn’t until Su Mo stepped into the elevator and turned around that he was stunned.

“Xiaoxiao?”

Su Mo, of course, saw Lu Ziye, but she didn’t plan on acknowledging him.

“Xiaoxiao, is that really you?” Lu Ziye moved forward excitedly, stepping into the elevator. Su Mo glanced at him and walked right out of the elevator.

“I’ll wait for the next one.”

“Xiaoxiao, it’s really you!” Lu Ziye’s emotions couldn’t be contained now. After all these years, he had been trying to find her, wondering how she was doing. Even if he could just offer her some compensation, he wanted to reach out. But no matter what method he tried, he couldn’t contact her.

And now, here she was, standing right in front of him.

He stepped forward, about to grab her arm, but at that moment, the elevator doors suddenly closed.

After the doors closed, Su Mo turned and walked toward the stairs.

Although she didn’t know who Lu Ziye was here to visit, she figured someone like him must be visiting someone in the VIP ward. So, she preferred to take the stairs to avoid encountering him.

But, as often happens, things didn’t go the way she wanted.

Lu Ziye quickly pressed the button for the third floor in the elevator. When the elevator stopped there, he immediately ran down the stairs, trying to catch up with Su Mo. To his surprise, just as he reached the second floor, he ran right into someone coming up the stairs.

He froze, then stepped forward to block Su Mo’s way.
