Marrying the Prime Minister in a Year of Famine: The Auspicious Wife Brings Prosperity Chapter 35

Chapter 35: Gold Bracelet

Xiaolian lowered her head, a little embarrassed.

“It’s not as exaggerated as Madam said. I was just admiring Miss Chu’s abilities, even though she’s so young.”

It’s said that women are virtuous if they have no talent, but talented women are no less capable than men.

Doctor Zhu had almost fainted that day.  Yet, this young girl had managed to complete the procedure cleanly and neatly.  That scene was truly impressive.

Chu Yue smiled a little awkwardly.

“It was just good luck. I’m not worthy of Sister Xiaolian’s praise.”  She turned and looked at Madam Huang . “To be honest, Madam, my family lives in the mountains and makes a living by gathering herbs.  These past few days, I’ve been going in and out of the pharmacy with my husband, and I overheard this method.  When I saw how critical your situation was, I thought I’d try it and mentioned it to Doctor Zhu.”

Madam Huang  nodded after listening.

“No wonder, you have a foundation in this.”

Chu Yue smiled, her lips slightly pursed. “How about I take a look at Madam’s wound first?”

“Good.”

After saying that, Madam Huang  lay down with the help of Xiaolian and the woman, and they lifted her clothes to expose her abdomen.

Chu Yue went closer to take a look.  Madam Huang ‘s abdominal wound had healed, and the scar tissue around the wound had completely fallen off.  She couldn’t help but marvel at the effectiveness of the wound medicine.

If it weren’t for the wound medicine, the wound probably wouldn’t have healed to this extent.

She gently pressed on Madam Huang ‘s abdomen a couple of times.

“Madam, does it still hurt like before?”

Madam Huang  shook her head slightly.

“It’s much better than the past few days.”

Just then, Xiaolian had brought a clean pair of scissors, wiped with alcohol, on a tray.

Chu Yue picked up the scissors and carefully removed the stitches from Madam Huang ‘s abdomen.  Then, she stood up.

“Madam’s wound is healing very well.  You should keep the wound clean these days and avoid doing heavy work for three months, so as not to break the healing wound.”

Madam Huang  accepted Chu Yue’s instructions one by one.  Afterwards, she winked at Xiaolian, who understood and brought over a jewelry box that had been prepared beforehand.

Madam Huang  opened the jewelry box as she spoke. “There’s a pair of gold bracelets here.  They were part of my dowry from my family when I got married.  Miss Chu must have just gotten married recently, so consider this a small token of my appreciation.”

Chu Yue quickly shook her head.

“Madam, I can’t accept these gold bracelets. When I left a few days ago, Mr. Huang already gave me a lot of silver.  If I take Madam’s bracelets, it would seem greedy of me.”

Seeing Chu Yue like this, Madam Huang  was even happier.

Everyone loves money, but this young lady knew how to take what was due and wasn’t like those people who were greedy for money.  This made her even more trustworthy.

She held Chu Yue’s hand.

“Silly girl, only you would refuse such good things.  If you don’t mind, you can call me Aunt Jiang from now on.”

Chu Yue was stunned.

“But Madam looks so young.  Is it really alright to call you that?”

Madam Huang  smiled. “My real name is Jiang Qingwan.  I’m about fourteen years older than you.  It’s not too much to call me Aunt Jiang, is it?”

Chu Yue smiled brightly and bowed slightly in front of Jiang Qingwan.

“Chu Yue greets Aunt Jiang.”

“Alright.” Jiang Qingwan smiled and took the jewelry box from Xiaolian and put it into Chu Yue’s hands. “Since you’re calling me Aunt Jiang, I’m your family now.  Consider this a little something I’m adding to your dowry.  Take it without hesitation.  If anyone dares to say anything bad about you, tell Aunt Jiang, and I will definitely not let them get away with it.”

She liked Chu Yue, but on the other hand, the young girl had such amazing abilities and experiences.  It was only a matter of time before she left Nanping Town.  It would be better to build a good relationship with her first.

With Jiang Qingwan saying this, Chu Yue couldn’t refuse anymore.

“Then, thank you, Aunt Jiang.”

Just at that moment, the nanny walked in from the side room carrying Jiang Qingwan’s child.

“Madam, the young master is awake.”

Hearing that her son was awake, Jiang Qingwan quickly sat up straight with the help of Xiaolian.

Chu Yue looked at the child.  He was quite big for his age, but his complexion was slightly yellow.

“Aunt Jiang, has the child been exposed to sunlight these past few days?”

Jiang Qingwan looked a little nervous.

“Indeed not.  Is there a problem?”

When the nanny came in from the side room just now, Chu Yue had seen clearly that the side room was rather dark.  It was probably to keep the child from being disturbed while sleeping, so they had closed the windows.

“There’s no major problem, it’s just that he seems to have a bit of jaundice.  You could let him see the sun every day when it’s not too strong.  Let him eat more and poop more, and he should recover to normal soon.”

It wasn’t a serious case of jaundice, so it was easy to solve, but it needed to be taken seriously to avoid it becoming severe, which would be difficult to handle later.

Jiang Qingwan took it seriously after hearing this.

“Xiaolian, quickly go and remove the cloth that is covering the window in the side room.  Nanny, when the sun goes down a little, you move the cradle to the courtyard and let Hao’er bask in the sun.”

Seeing everyone busy, and knowing that the new mother needed to rest, Chu Yue got up to take her leave.

“Aunt Jiang, my husband is waiting for me in the front yard.  I’ll take my leave now.  Take good care of yourself.  I’ll come to visit you again when I have time.”

Jiang Qingwan nodded, her face showing a hint of fatigue.

“Alright, be careful on your way.”  She then looked in the direction of the side room. “Xiaolian, you take Yueyue to the front yard and tell the steward that he should drive the carriage to send Yueyue and her husband home.”

Chu Yue left Yi Mei Yuan  and, under Xiaolian’s guidance, came to the front yard.  She immediately saw Lu Xinghe waiting for her in the gazebo.

“Husband!”

As soon as Chu Yue appeared, Lu Xinghe saw her.

To prevent her from running in a hurry and tripping again, he took the initiative to leave the gazebo and walked quickly towards her.

“Did it go smoothly?”

As he asked, he naturally took her hand.

For a long time, Chu Yue’s attention was focused on the large hand holding hers.  When she finally realized, she blushed slightly and nodded. “S-smoothly.”

Xiaolian, though older than Chu Yue, was not yet married.  Seeing Chu Yue’s husband, not only was he handsome, but he was also extremely kind to her.  She was naturally envious.

She covered her mouth and smiled, then looked towards the steward at the door.

“Manager Liu, Madam asked you to take Miss Chu and her husband home.”

Chu Yue quickly waved her hand. “No need.  My husband and I want to walk around town for a while.  We won’t hold up the Huang Mansion’s carriage.”

In the end, they said goodbye to Xiaolian and Manager Liu and left the Huang Mansion.

They first went to Chen’s Pharmacy.  Originally, they wanted to ask Doctor Zhu if he was willing to go to the countryside, but it wasn’t Doctor Zhu’s day to see patients.  Chu Yue asked Manager Chen to ask for her, then followed Lu Xinghe to the Wang Cheng Bookstore.

Seeing the bookstore in the distance, Chu Yue tilted her head and asked, “Husband, if you’re going to continue taking the Emperial examinations, you’ll need to buy some books, right?”
