Chu Xiao Yin had never considered this career path before. As Mu Wan explained the details to her, she realized it might actually work.
“There’s no harm in trying. I’ll give it a shot when I get back!” she said enthusiastically. “Plus, it’s a way to showcase my talent. Who knows, maybe some orchestra will notice me, and I’ll get lucky.”
Of course, it had to be a reliable orchestra—not a shady one like Zhuo Xing.
At that moment, Mu Wan had no idea that her offhand suggestion would completely change Chu Xiao Yin’s life.
—
After they finished eating, Chu XiaoYin struggled to get a taxi due to the rush hour. Seeing this, Mu Wan pulled out her car keys from her bag.
“Where are you going? I’ll drop you off. I’m free this afternoon anyway.”
Although Mu Wan was treated like a princess at home, she was four years older than Chu XiaoYin in this life (and six years older if counting her previous life). Seeing Chu Xiao Yin’s cute and lively personality, Mu Wan couldn’t help but treat her like a younger sister.
Chu Xiao Yin didn’t stand on ceremony. “The Third People’s Hospital. Thanks, goddess!”
Mu Wan frowned. “The hospital? Are you sick?”
Chu Xiao Yin quickly shook her head and explained, “No, not me—it’s my senior. She also plays the violin and has helped me a lot in the past. But last year, she was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and has been in the hospital for treatment. I visit her whenever I can.”
Mu Wan nodded and led Chu Xiao Yin to the underground parking lot of the concert hall, where she drove out a BMW X7.
Chu Xiao Yin didn’t recognize luxury cars and happily hopped in. On the other hand, a man nearby driving a BMW X1 immediately noticed the X7. His eyes lit up, but when he saw that the driver was a young woman, his expression turned disdainful.
Mu Wan gave him a cold glare. “Never seen a beautiful woman drive before?”
The man averted his gaze but muttered contemptuously, “Who knows which sugar daddy bought it for her? Just another cheap slut.”
Mu Wan’s brows furrowed deeply, but before she could respond, Chu Xiao Yin picked up her water bottle and threw it directly at the man’s forehead.
“Sugar daddy, my ass! What, was your dad too poor to afford protection, so he ended up having you—a brainless idiot? Every time you see a luxury car, you think of sugar daddies. When you see your mom, do you wonder how many dads you have?”
Mu Wan: “…”
What a sharp tongue!
The man’s face turned red with rage, and he raised his fist to charge at them.
Mu Wan slammed on the gas, and the X7 sped off, narrowly missing the man. Chu Xiao Yin even stuck her hand out the window to flip him off, her mockery fully loaded.
Watching the man fume in potent anger through the rearview mirror, Mu Wan couldn’t deny the satisfaction it gave her.
—
When they arrived at the hospital, Chu Xiao Yin thanked Mu Wan again.
“Goddess, goodbye! Thanks for driving me.”
Mu Wan sighed. “Call me Wan wan, or Wan wan-jie.”
Chu Xiaoyin blinked mischievously. “Wan wan goddess?”
Mu Wan pretended to hit her, making Chu Xiao Yin laugh as she quickly jumped out of the car and ran off.
“I’m going to visit Senior O Ruo now. Goodbye, Wan wan goddess!”
Mu Wan froze for a moment, her smile fading slightly. Suddenly, she called out to the retreating Chu Xiao Yin.
“Your senior’s name is O Ruo?”
Chu Xiao Yin nodded. “Yeah!”
Mu Wan couldn’t help marveling at the coincidence. O Ruo—the future winner of the Paganini International Violin Competition in her past life.
“Tell your senior that she’ll recover.”
She would recover, because next year, O Ruo would stand on stage with her, competing for that one and only trophy.
Chu Xiao Yin, unaware that Mu Wan had been reborn, thought she was just cheering up her senior. Clenching her fists, she replied enthusiastically, “Okay, I’ll tell her! Goodbye, goddess!”
Mu Wan mumbled under her breath about telling her again to not call her “goddess” anymore, then drove away. Halfway down the road, something suddenly struck her, and she brought the BMW X7 to a screeching halt. Her expression turned somber.
After winning the Paganini Competition, O Ruo had participated in an interview. In it, she had mentioned her younger brother—who had taken his own life after being cyberbullied…
—
“Jie, how are you feeling today?”
In the hospital, O Lan walked into the ward carrying a bag of fruit. His recent earnings from live streaming were good, and he would soon be able to gather enough money for his sister’s surgery.
O Ruo, wearing a hospital gown, looked pale from the torment of her illness. Yet, when she saw her younger brother, she still managed a smile.
“Pretty good. Why are you here so early today? Aren’t you streaming?”
O Lan naturally picked up a fruit knife and began peeling an apple for her. “I’ll stream this afternoon. You shouldn’t watch my streams too much—it’s full of negativity online, and that’s not good for your recovery.”
The doctor had warned them that O Ruo couldn’t afford to get too emotional.
“I know,” she said softly.
As she gazed at her brother, a trace of guilt flickered in her eyes. Their parents had passed away in a car accident when she was sixteen. Thanks to the insurance payout, the siblings had managed to scrape by. But ever since she’d fallen ill, the money had drained away like water. O Lan couldn’t even go to college because he had to worry about her medical expenses.
Whenever she thought about this, the idea of jumping from the hospital window to end it all crossed her mind. But every time she pictured her brother being left alone in this world after her death, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
—
“Senior!”
The door swung open again, and Chu Xiao Yin walked in. Seeing O Lan, she greeted him warmly, “Oh, O Lan, you’re here too!”
O Lan was familiar with his sister’s junior and nodded politely. “Hi, Xiao Yin-jie.”
