Chapter 8 : The Bed is Quite Big, We Can Sleep Together
At the age of fifteen, Chen Haibo became a soldier, went to the battlefield, fought in wars, became the head of the First Military District, and served as a soldier for his entire life. His wall was adorned with medals of honor, and just looking at them instilled respect.
After retiring, he moved to his old house in the western suburbs and lived a quiet life alone.
“Should we buy something?” When visiting the elderly, it’s polite to bring something, right?
“Grandpa doesn’t lack anything.” Chen Mo glanced at her and suddenly chuckled. “It’s not like you haven’t seen him before. Why are you so nervous?”
Song Zhiyi had been to his house as a child and had met Grandpa Chen long ago.
“This is different…” Now, she was his granddaughter-in-law, after all.
She couldn’t afford to leave a bad impression!
“Grandpa said that just you coming is enough. You don’t need to buy anything else.” The young girl was already beautiful and well-behaved, so what could Grandpa be dissatisfied with?
He was quite fond of her.
“No, we still need to buy something.” It’s basic courtesy. “We have to buy something!”
The young girl was determined, nodding in agreement.
“…”
She was so cute.
Chen Mo turned the car around at the intersection ahead. “Okay, let’s go buy something.”
Song Zhiyi bought some digestive fruits and a box of yogurt before heading to the old house in the western suburbs.
The Chen family’s old house was large, a two-story duplex. Grandpa Chen had even specially renovated it when he moved in. The black and gold front gate looked extremely imposing.
Chen Mo parked the car in the yard.
It was Aunt Liu who opened the door. When she saw Chen Mo and Song Zhiyi, she smiled broadly and cheerfully shouted inside, “Old Master, Xiao Mo and his wife are here!”
“Coming?” Chen Haibo quickly walked out from inside. Although he was already 78 years old, his years of military service had kept him upright and energetic, with no sign of stooping.
“Grandpa Chen.” Song Zhiyi called him sweetly as soon as she saw him.
“Hm?” Hearing the girl call him ‘Grandpa’ so sweetly, the usually serious Chen Haibo couldn’t help but soften his tone. “Why are you still calling me Grandpa Chen?”
“…” Song Zhiyi smiled, a small dimple forming at the corner of her lips. “Grandpa.”
“Ah~ My dear granddaughter-in-law!”
Song Zhiyi: ?(????ω????)?
Chen Haibo had actually liked this little girl since she was young—well-behaved, pretty, and the key was… his grandson had always looked at her in a very different way.
Hmph!
The first time she came to the old house, Song Zhiyi was only 15. Thinking back, his grandson was quite the beast!
But if he hadn’t secured Song Zhiyi in the end, then he truly would be worse than a beast, and Chen Haibo would also have looked down on him.
“Come in and sit.” Chen Haibo had already prepared a pair of rabbit slippers for her. He casually took the bag of fruit from her hand and handed it to Chen Mo, then pulled Song Zhiyi into the living room.
Chen Mo: “…”
He felt like he had no position in his own home.
But seeing how much his grandfather liked her, it was a good thing.
…
For dinner, Aunt Liu made a feast.
Chen Haibo picked up some sweet and sour shredded potatoes with his chopsticks and said, “Tomorrow is the weekend, why don’t you just stay here tonight?”
“Ah…?” Song Zhiyi froze for a moment, as if processing his words. There was a hint of confusion in her cat-like eyes. “Stay?”
“Yes, I had Xiao Liu prepare a room for you yesterday.”
“…”
It didn’t sound like he was asking for their opinion, but more like informing them.
Staying at Grandpa Chen’s house meant sharing a room with Chen Mo.
Song Zhiyi instinctively looked at Chen Mo beside her, silently asking: What should we do?
“What’s wrong?” Seeing that Song Zhiyi was only looking at Chen Mo, Chen Haibo was puzzled. “Don’t want to, or… do you dislike this old man?”
“No, no!” Song Zhiyi quickly shook her head.
“Then stay, I don’t get it. You two have been married for half a year and haven’t come to see me.”
Chen Haibo was upset about this. His grandson had already registered the marriage, and he had a wife, yet he didn’t even bring her over for him to see.
Although he had seen her before…
But that didn’t stop him from wanting to see her more!
“Chen Mo…” Song Zhiyi gently tugged on the cuff of his pants under the table and whispered his name.
Clink—
Chen Mo’s chopsticks suddenly fell.
Song Zhiyi: “?”
Had she just touched his hand?
That soft touch through the fabric of his pants, brushing against his thigh, was like a cat’s tail brushing against him, ticklish and so seductive.
The sensation was too stimulating, and he couldn’t even hold the chopsticks properly.
“Ah Mo, how did you get Parkinson’s at such a young age?” Chen Haibo looked at him, unable to hold the chopsticks, and couldn’t help but show some disdain.
How could he embarrass himself in front of his own wife!
“Xiao Mo, here, I’ll give you some chopsticks.” When Aunt Liu heard the noise from the dining room, she quickly brought over a pair of clean chopsticks.
“Thank you, Aunt Liu.” Chen Mo acted as if nothing had happened. “Grandpa, we just got off work and didn’t bring any spare clothes.”
“Oh, that’s all?” Chen Haibo seemed unconcerned. “Don’t worry, everything you need is already at the old house, and as for Xiao Zhiyi’s things, I’ve already had Xiao Liu prepare them.”
“Yes, yes! Towels, toothbrushes, underwear, pajamas,” Aunt Liu listed everything off, “Miss Song, if there’s anything else you need, I can go buy it later.”
“That’s enough, really…” Song Zhiyi hated troubling others. It would be inconvenient for Aunt Liu to go out shopping once it got dark.
“Then it’s settled!” Chen Haibo made the final decision.
Song Zhiyi & Chen Mo: “…”
So, he was determined for them to stay, wasn’t he?
The guest room Chen Haibo prepared for them was quite spacious, with its own bathroom. The entire room was decorated in warm tones, and the bed had a dreamy pink and purple canopy, which seemed very suited to a girl’s taste.
“Grandpa actually likes this color?” Song Zhiyi looked around at the room’s decor.
“Obviously, it’s prepared for you,” Chen Mo replied. Since he could remember, the family never had anything pink or purple.
So it was clearly something his grandfather had specially prepared for Song Zhiyi.
“…Thank you.” Song Zhiyi glanced at the double bed, with its pink sheets, which looked quite out of place with Chen Mo’s rough appearance. “So, how are we going to sleep tonight?”
Their marriage wasn’t exactly real. At 27, Chen Mo had rejected 18 arranged marriages from his grandfather. At the time, Song Zhiyi was alone and had encountered some trouble. Chen Mo told her:
“I promised your brother I would take care of you. I’ll be responsible, and Grandpa needs a granddaughter-in-law.”
So they got married.
In a way, they were both fulfilling their needs—Song Zhiyi needed shelter, and Chen Mo needed a wife to deal with Grandpa.
But honestly, excluding Grandpa, she was also willing to marry him!
“I’ll sleep on the floor,” Chen Mo said, not wanting to make things awkward for the young lady. They always slept in separate rooms at home.
The guest room wasn’t small, so sleeping on the floor would be fine.
But for someone as tall as 190 cm, it might be a bit uncomfortable.
Song Zhiyi glanced at the floor and then at the tall man in front of her. “Maybe not, the bed is quite big.”
How could the owner sleep on the floor?
“Are you sure?” Chen Mo’s deep eyes fixed on her, his gaze slightly intense.
“Mm.” Song Zhiyi, a bit embarrassed, nodded slightly.
Since it was his wife’s request, Chen Mo decided not to sleep on the floor.
After all… the double bed was indeed quite large.
Aunt Liu had prepared cartoon pajamas for Song Zhiyi, with a large pink Peppa Pig printed on them.
“Aunt Liu’s taste is really… something.” Song Zhiyi never bought such pajamas. They were childish, and wearing a pig with a crooked nose on her body didn’t look good at all!
“They’re fine,” Chen Mo thought the pajamas were quite cute—pink and very fitting for Song Zhiyi. “Are you going to wash up first?”
“Okay.”
As Song Zhiyi entered the bathroom, the first thing she saw was the pink toothbrush and towel Aunt Liu had prepared for her, placed next to Chen Mo’s blue toothbrush cup and blue towel.
It was clearly a couple’s set!
Aunt Liu was so practical, preparing everything in pink for her!
After taking a 20-minute shower, Song Zhiyi came out, drying the wet ends of her hair with a towel.
“Chen Mo, I’m done. The water temperature was just right.”
“Mm.” Chen Mo was standing by the window, looking at his phone and typing occasionally.
Hearing Song Zhiyi’s voice, he put down his phone and turned around.
The pajamas were one-size, and on Song Zhiyi, they looked a bit loose. The neckline was wide, and the sleep pants stopped just above her thighs, revealing her long, white legs in full view of Chen Mo.
In the warm, somewhat intimate light of the bedroom, her milk-white skin glowed softly, delicate and tender, as though a slight touch would leave a red mark on her.
“…”
Why did it feel like she wasn’t wearing any clothes under his intense gaze?
Song Zhiyi’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly looked down to check. Thankfully, her clothes were still on!
“You, you should go take a shower,” Song Zhiyi spoke, reminding him, feeling that it would be impolite if he kept staring at her like this.
“Okay…” Chen Mo’s voice was slightly hoarse.
Agreeing to stay at Grandpa’s and share a bed with the young lady didn’t seem like the wisest decision.
Damn, this was really risky!
That Peppa Pig pajama set somehow made her look alluring…
