Chapter 10 Capture: Song Qi Will Wake Up, He Can’t Bear To Let You Go
Song Zhiyi felt a little cold while sleeping in the first half of the night. She curled up and pulled the blanket tighter.
Later, she felt warm again, as if a large quilt had wrapped around her. Feeling cozy, Song Zhiyi snuggled deeper into the blanket and found a comfortable position to continue sleeping.
The next morning, Song Zhiyi was woken up by the sound of her alarm clock.
She moved a bit, feeling as if something was binding her.
“…Why are you moving so much?” A man’s hoarse voice came from above her.
“?”
Song Zhiyi poked her head out from the blanket, her hair disheveled, and looked at him.
What?!
How did she end up sleeping in his arms, with both her and the blanket?
No wonder it felt so warm.
“Well, my alarm went off…” she said, her face turning red as she tried to excuse herself. She reached for her still-screeching phone, hoping to cover up her embarrassment.
But she was still wrapped in the blanket, which was also being held by Chen Mo, making it impossible to escape.
Her movements caused Chen Mo to tighten his hand around her waist, even through the blanket. His tone was laced with restrained patience. “I told you not to move, and you moved even more.”
Does she not know that morning men are the most dangerous?
The little girl had been inching closer to him in her sleep, like a little ball, and Chen Mo hadn’t slept well all night.
Now she was squirming in his arms again. What man could tolerate that?
Not to mention, this was his wife!
“Then let go of me,” Song Zhiyi said, feeling the tension in his arm, which hurt her. “If you’re cold, why didn’t you turn off the air conditioner?”
“…”
Chen Mo suppressed the fire in his eyes and slowly pulled his hand back. When he saw Song Zhiyi quickly roll to the edge of the bed with the blanket, he couldn’t help but think—he hadn’t even done anything yet, but she was already running away so quickly.
He looked down at his lower body and then stood up to walk into the bathroom. He turned on the shower and started taking a cold shower.
Song Zhiyi sighed in relief when she saw him get up and hurriedly turned off the alarm. She heard the sound of running water from the bathroom and was left feeling a bit confused.
Why was he taking a shower so early?
…
When Chen Haibo saw the couple coming out of the bedroom one after the other, he smiled widely.
“So, how did you sleep last night?”
“It was great,” Song Zhiyi quickly replied, since she really did sleep well.
Chen Mo: “…”
Thank you, he hadn’t slept at all.
Seeing his grandson’s expressionless face, Chen Haibo raised an eyebrow. What did that expression mean?
“Why aren’t you speaking?” Chen Haibo also kept a stern face, which reminded him of the troublesome new recruits that would join the military every year.
The kind that just begged to be slapped!
“I slept really well.” Chen Mo replied, though he had spent the night holding his wife, which was nice, but it was a bit hard to endure.
“That’s better,” Chen Haibo grunted, then turned to look at Song Zhiyi with a kind smile. “How about staying another night?”
It was a dramatic shift in expression.
Song Zhiyi: “…”
She had no problem with it, but she wasn’t sure if Chen Mo would want to.
“No, Grandpa. I have to go to the bureau tomorrow to handle a case,” Chen Mo said.
“A case? Oh…” Chen Haibo thought for a moment. “Is it the dismemberment case from a few days ago? Any progress?”
“Not yet, the meeting is tomorrow.”
On major issues, Chen Haibo was always very clear.
“Mm, A Mo, I don’t have many requests, just one: be careful.” Chen Haibo patted his grandson’s shoulder. “You’re not alone now, don’t make Xiao Zhiyi worry.”
“I know.” Chen Mo glanced at the obedient Song Zhiyi standing next to him, then reached over to put his arm around her shoulder. “Say goodbye to Grandpa.”
“Goodbye, Grandpa.” Song Zhiyi bid farewell to Chen Haibo.
Watching the two of them leave, Chen Haibo clicked his tongue. Actually, he was quite eager to hold his great-grandson soon.
Grandson! Can you try harder?
Sitting in the car, Song Zhiyi looked out at the passing scenery and thought for a moment before turning to the man driving. “Will this road pass by the central hospital? I want… to visit my brother.”
“Sure.”
He had time today, so he would accompany her.
The car stopped in the parking lot of the central hospital. Song Zhiyi bought a small bouquet of chrysanthemums and went to the 18th floor, to the VIP neurology ward.
Inside, a doctor was administering an IV drip to the patient in the bed.
“You must be Mr. Song’s sister?” The doctor finished inserting the needle, then looked at Song Zhiyi and then at Chen Mo. “I remember you, you haven’t come to visit him for a while.”
“I’ve been doing an internship.” Saying this made Song Zhiyi feel a bit guilty.
It had indeed been a long time since she last visited her brother.
“I understand.” The doctor smiled.
When Song Qi was brought to the hospital four years ago, this young girl was also there, only a high school student at the time. How could she withstand seeing a family member lying in a pool of blood?
She cried so much her eyes swelled up to the size of walnuts. Upon hearing that her brother might become a vegetable, the girl fainted.
Later, they set up a bed next to Song Qi’s to allow her to recover, and it took her a week to wake up.
But when talking about this, the doctor expressed admiration for Song Qi. A university student still in police school, yet he had the courage to take part in a drug bust. Song Qi was shot in the head, and while his life was saved, he was left in a vegetative state.
For the past four years, Song Zhiyi would visit every two weeks, never letting more than a month pass. The doctors and nurses on the 18th floor all knew her.
“Well, I won’t disturb you. You can talk to Mr. Song now.” The doctor recorded Song Qi’s current brain condition, then put away his pen and left the room.
Song Zhiyi first placed the bouquet in the vase on the windowsill, then filled a basin with water, wringing out a towel to wipe Song Qi’s face and hands.
“Chen Mo, do you think my brother… could wake up?” Song Zhiyi looked at her brother, who had become increasingly thin over the past four years, her mood heavy.
“He will.” Chen Mo walked behind Song Zhiyi and gently patted her head. “Because your brother can’t bear to leave you.”
He had been with Song Qi during that mission.
Before the operation, Song Qi had said to him, “If something happens to me, I’m entrusting my sister to you.”
Song Qi’s greatest concern was Song Zhiyi, so he would definitely wake up!
“I believe he will, too.” Song Zhiyi smiled faintly.
If Chen Mo said he would, then she believed it!
Chen Mo also curled the corner of his lips. It was better when the girl smiled.
Just as she was about to lift Song Qi’s shirt to wipe his body, Chen Mo suddenly stopped her small hand. “I’ll do it.”
“Huh?” Song Zhiyi looked up at him, confused.
“I’m a bit thirsty, could you get me a cup of hot water?” Chen Mo took a disposable cup from the bedside table and handed it to her.
“Okay… sure.”
The water dispenser in the hospital room only had cold water. To get hot water, she would have to go to the end of the corridor.
As Song Zhiyi stepped out of the room, she scratched her head.
On such a hot day, Chen Mo wanted hot water?
