Mu Wan watched as Kuang Ye picked up a bag and then quickly put it back down.
“What’s wrong? You don’t like it?”
Kuang Ye casually tucked the bag underneath the others, his expression calm and composed.
“No, I like it a lot.”
He silently added in his heart, And I’m sure you’ll like it too.
——
Kuang Ye carried the mountain of gifts upstairs to sort through them.
Meanwhile, Mu Wan lay on the couch, taking in the apartment. She noticed that the kitchen dishes had been washed, and the couch cushions and curtains were freshly replaced. It was obvious Kuang Ye had hired someone to clean up.
Her gaze fell on the notebook sitting on the coffee table. It was open, showing a spectator mode of an HW game match. Curiosity got the better of her, and she picked it up to take a closer look.
In the Misty Canyon, a hero wielding a bayonet moved with flawless precision, every action clean and efficient. Mu Wan became engrossed in watching.
When Kuang Ye came back downstairs, she pointed at the screen.
“Ah-Ye, the way this player moves is really familiar. Could it be… O Lan?”
Kuang Ye nodded and sat down beside her to watch together.
“It’s him. He’s using a youth training camp account right now. If he passes the tests next month, the team will sign him officially.”
Mu Wan’s heart swelled with joy, thinking about O Lan, who had been cyberbullied to the point of taking his life in her past life. This time, his path seemed to be turning for the better. She felt a deep sense of relief, wondering if perhaps this was part of the reason she had been given a second chance at life.
As she reflected, a thought suddenly surfaced—one she had been overlooking.
Zhuo Xing…
“Jiejie, all those gifts earlier were from Xingran. Didn’t you say if I stayed home and behaved, you’d have a gift for me when you got back?”
Kuang Ye suddenly grabbed Mu Wan’s hand, shaking it dramatically, half-pouting and half-playful.
Watching his handsome face act like a child begging for candy, Mu Wan couldn’t help but laugh. She unzipped her bag.
“Of course, would I ever go back on my word?”
Kuang Ye had only been teasing, but when he saw her actually pull out a gift, his face lit up with anticipation.
But the moment Mu Wan revealed the gift, he froze.
“This is…”
Mu Wan took out a small ring box holding a pair of silver couple’s rings.
“I stumbled across these in a mall. Doesn’t the design on the rings remind you of the HW victory emblem? I thought it’d be perfect for our Wild God—wearing this ring might help you win every match you play.”
“But since wearing a ring while gaming might not be convenient, I also got them to include a chain. This way, you can wear it as a necklace—”
Before she could finish, she was pulled into a firm embrace. Kuang Ye held her tightly, his voice hoarse.
“Wan wan, why do you always manage to catch me off guard and surprise me like this?”
Mu Wan’s eyes softened as she gently held his hand and slid the ring onto his middle finger, speaking with sincerity and seriousness.
“Because I like you.”
Kuang Ye picked up the other ring from the box, slid it onto her finger, and brought her hand to his lips for a kiss.
“I like you too.”
Their eyes met, and they smiled at each other, the atmosphere warm and romantic.
After a while, Kuang Ye glanced at their matching rings and suddenly looked troubled.
“Jiejie, aren’t rings supposed to be something the man gives? Now that you’ve given me one, what should I give you?”
Mu Wan flicked his forehead with her finger and grinned.
“Win the HW world championship for me. I want the whole world to know my boyfriend is amazing.”
Her boyfriend wasn’t the aimless, irresponsible gamer boy the rumors painted him as. He was one of the top-tier players standing on the HW professional stage.
Kuang Ye’s smile widened.
“Alright, anything for you, Jiejie.”
Winning the world championship to propose—now that would be fitting for a young lady of the prestigious Mu family.
——
At the same time, in another place, a dark and silent room.
A woman with striking beauty, crimson lips, and dressed in a low-cut V-neck gown, curled up on the bed. Her arms were wrapped around herself, nails digging into her flesh, as she trembled in pain and despair.
Her name was Li Yue, a violinist for Zhuo Xing. Her exceptional violin skills had drawn significant attention from many talent agencies when she first entered the industry. Eventually, she chose to join Zhuo Xing, unaware that this decision would lead her straight into a nightmare.
Classical music agencies typically had their own symphony orchestras, ensembles made up of the company’s top musicians. Li Yue had initially aimed for the position of concertmaster, confident she could claim the role.
However, what she hadn’t anticipated was that Zhuo Xing’s selection process for its orchestra members not only tested technical skill but also included performance evaluations for securing sponsorships.
In her bid to join the orchestra, she had dressed provocatively on multiple occasions, accompanying so-called “music enthusiasts” who were, in truth, men with ulterior motives, for drinking sessions.
At first, she told herself it was just networking—a challenge of the professional world that any adult might face. Even though she loathed it, she forced herself to accept it.
Until today.
When she resisted the advances of a lecherous older man, he retaliated by throwing a glass of red wine in her face and publicly berating her.
“You’re nothing but a whore, and now you’re pretending to be pure?” he sneered.
“You should feel honored I even take an interest in you! Isn’t this all about getting a sponsorship? Take off your clothes, spread your legs, and satisfy me. Do that, and I’ll sponsor you.”
The room erupted in laughter at his crude words.
