“Yeah, his birthday is on the same day as Kuang Shuyu’s, at the end of next month.” Mu Wan tapped her head. She had been so busy lately that she had completely forgotten about it. “Xingran, thanks for reminding me, or I definitely wouldn’t have had enough time to prepare a gift last minute.”
Kuang Xingran responded, “Well, this is the first time I’ll be celebrating his birthday since he came back, so I was actually planning to ask you what to get him.” She had already given him all the apology gifts she could think of, so now it was hard to come up with anything new. If only she hadn’t given him everything earlier.
Suddenly, Kuang Xingran got curious. “Wan wan, have you and my brother used the gifts I gave you both?”
“Did you find them exciting?”
Mu Wan was puzzled. “What are you talking about?”
Kuang Xingran was taken aback. “Has my brother not opened the gifts I gave him yet?”
Mu Wan replied, “Oh, he opened everything the day he got them. He was pretty happy about it.”
Kuang Xingran was speechless. What’s going on with my brother? Is he okay? It’s been so long, and he still hasn’t used the big gift I prepared for him?
She subtly hinted to Mu Wan, “Wan wan, there’s a pink bag in those gifts. If you’re interested, you can take it out and have a look. It’s for both you and my brother.”
Mu Wan nodded, her curiosity piqued. After chatting a little more with Kuang Xingran, she hung up the phone.
Around 6 PM, Kuang Ye’s car appeared at the company entrance on time. Zhang Zhi, the designer, who was discussing the music hall’s layout with the renovation team, said to Mu Wan, “Miss Mu, your boyfriend is here to pick you up.”
Mu Wan turned around and, sure enough, saw Kuang Ye’s black Mercedes parked outside. Not wanting him to wait too long, she grabbed her bag and hurried out.
“Designer Zhang, you can head home now, and we’ll continue tomorrow.”
Zhang Zhi nodded. “Alright, I’ll wrap up with the workers and leave.”
At 32, Zhang Zhi was somewhat well-known in the industry. She had taken on several large projects before, but none of the clients had been as pleasant as Mu Wan. She never asked for constant revisions, never proposed impossible ideas, and didn’t try to cut corners to save money. She was, without a doubt, the most ideal client Zhang Zhi had ever worked with.
Mu Wan got into the front passenger seat, and the black Mercedes soon drove away from the luxurious complex.
“ST has a strategy meeting tonight. I might not be able to cook for you. How about we go to a private restaurant instead?” Kuang Ye asked Mu Wan in the car.
Mu Wan nodded but then gave him a sidelong glance. “Next time, if you have something to do at night, you don’t have to come pick me up. I can just take a cab back. It’s not far, just half an hour’s walk.”
Kuang Ye turned to look at her, raising an eyebrow with a teasing smile. “No way. If I don’t see you all day, it feels like three months have passed. My chest gets tight, and I need to take a breath to feel better.”
Mu Wan: “…” Was she some kind of special oxygen supply for him?
After dinner, Kuang Ye took Mu Wan back to her apartment. Before getting out of the car, Mu Wan looked around to make sure no one was nearby. She then grabbed the hem of Kuang Ye’s shirt, tilted her head up, and boldly leaned in for a kiss. “Didn’t you say you needed a breath to feel better?”
Kuang Ye’s hand on the steering wheel tightened immediately. His eyes darkened, and without hesitation, he pulled Mu Wan’s chin and kissed her deeply.
A moment later, they broke the kiss, their lips still tingling, both breathing heavily.
Kuang Ye gazed at Mu Wan’s flushed cheeks and glistening lips, feeling the overwhelming urge to take her upstairs and indulge in his desires. But Mu Wan had already pulled away, opened the door, and got out of the car. She winked at him through the window.
“Stinky Xiao Didi, go home early.”
With a graceful stride, she swiped her card and entered the elevator without looking back.
Kuang Ye: “…”
This had to be intentional.
Mu Wan was, of course, being intentional. After all, this “stinky Xiao didi” seemed like an insatiable wolf every night. She needed to properly discipline him, or else he’d become uncontrollable.
Having spent time at the renovation site, Mu Wan had inevitably gotten a lot of construction dust on her. She headed back to her room to take a shower and wash her hair. Just as she finished drying her hair, she received a WeChat message from Li Yue, who sent her some pictures of instruments for her to choose from.
The orchestra recruitment was divided into two categories: one for musicians who bring their own instruments, and the other for those who don’t. For small instruments like violins and trumpets, musicians usually bring their own to the group. But for large instruments like pianos and harps, those are typically provided by the performance venue or the orchestra.
Actually, renting them would be more cost-effective, but Mu Wan had the mindset of “money is no object,” so she decided to buy them herself.
[Little boss, we could be more economical in the beginning and not buy such expensive ones. After we start making a profit, we can upgrade to the larger instruments.]
Li Yue, although aware of Mu Wan’s wealth, was still concerned about the potential waste. The talent agency wasn’t even fully staffed yet, and the orchestra hadn’t even come together. What if the instruments ended up gathering dust? That would be a big waste of money.
[That’s fine.]
Mu Wan understood Li Yue’s concerns. Rationally speaking, these large instruments shouldn’t be bought just yet. But who could resist the urge to own a full symphony orchestra? Besides, once she had the large instruments, even if the agency wasn’t able to secure any jobs right away, she could rent out the music hall on the second floor, which would still bring in some income.
At that moment, Mu Wan had no idea that her seemingly extravagant and impulsive decision would later become one of the biggest highlights of her company’s recruitment.
