Chapter 8 : Threats
When Su Xieqiu woke up again, it was already dawn.
Han Zhenyu was not in the room, and she could hear him talking to a man outside.
“Captain, my wife injured her head this time. The doctor said it’s very serious and will leave sequelae. She came back last night acting like a mad woman, saying she wanted to kill everyone in her family. I was really afraid that the situation would get out of hand, so I prepared to report it to the police. As the saying goes, every wrong has its perpetrator. Since it was Han Meili and Zhang Qianyun who beat her, then arrest them to avoid involving other people.”
The captain frowned. “Crazy? Is it that serious?”
Han Zhenyu thought, When did I say she was crazy? Is your hearing not working well?
But he didn’t say this out loud. Instead, he explained to Han Hongbing, “Although she’s not crazy, she’s been greatly shocked this time. The doctor said she can’t do heavy work in the future. It’s best not to stimulate her, for fear she might do something extreme.”
Su Xieqiu, who couldn’t stand being talked about in the room, said nothing.
Team leader Hongbing nodded, glanced at Han Baoguo and Yang Lanhua, who were listening in the kitchen.
He said, displeased, “Uncle, aunt, it’s a new society now, how can you still let your daughter bully your daughter-in-law? Meili isn’t young anymore, right? If this gets out, who would dare to marry into your family? Even the girls in our village might be affected.”
Han Meili, who was lighting the fire, ran out angrily, “Captain, I didn’t hit her at all. She fell accidentally. That bitch also beat me and my second sister-in-law yesterday. She beat me all over my body. It still hurts now.”
Before the captain could speak, Han Zhenyu said with a sullen face, “Han Meili, who are you calling a bitch?”
The person Han Meili feared most in this family was Han Zhenyu. Seeing his gloomy face, she was so scared that she quickly hid behind Han Baoguo.
At this moment, Su Xieqiu opened the door with a pair of scissors in her hand.
She glared at Han Meili and Zhang Qianyun, who were cooking.
Then, she walked towards the two women step by step with a sinister smile. Her wild appearance frightened everyone in the yard.
Even the captain took two steps back.
Han Meili and Zhang Qianyun screamed in fright.
Yang Lanhua shielded her daughter behind her, and Han Zhenhua quickly grabbed Zhang Qianyun and hurried back inside.
Han Zhenyu didn’t know whether Su Xieqiu was pretending or not, and was afraid the situation would spiral out of control. He quickly rushed over to stop her.
“Calm down, the captain is here. He will help you get justice.”
Su Xieqiu looked at him expressionlessly, then glanced at the captain. Slowly, she turned around and went back to the room.
Her look and demeanor were unsettling.
Han Zhenyu waited until she was back inside before angrily saying, “Captain, look at what has happened to my wife. I must report this to the police and have them bring the evildoers to justice.”
The captain observed Su Xieqiu’s condition and wasn’t sure how to persuade him. However, for the sake of the team’s advanced title, he reluctantly bit the bullet and said:
“Zhenyu, things have come to this point. Even if you report to the police, what effect will it have? Meili is your biological sister after all. If this matter escalates, it won’t be good for your wife.”
Han Zhenyu sneered. “Captain, whose sister beats her sister-in-law? They don’t even consider me and my wife as family. So this time, I will never let Han Meili and Zhang Qianyun off. They must be sent to jail for a few years, or they won’t learn their lesson.”
When Han Baoguo and Yang Lanhua heard that he was really going to report to the police to arrest their daughter, they were both scared and angry.
Yang Lanhua pointed at him and said, “You you are so heartless. Although I didn’t give birth to you, I raised you with all my heart. You have no gratitude towards me as your mother, and now you want the police to arrest your sister. Aren’t you afraid of retribution?”
Han Zhenyu looked at her and smiled coldly. “You’re not afraid of making a fuss when you say this. How did you abuse me when I was a child? I remember it clearly. Now you think you’re flattering yourself. You’re really shameless.”
Yang Lanhua’s face turned pale and blue from the ridicule. Seeing that he wasn’t listening, she winked at her husband.
Han Baoguo was also a little afraid of his eldest son, but he had always obeyed his wife. Now that he had received instructions from her, he had to assert his fatherly authority. He said with a stern face:
“Big brother, how can you talk to your mother like that? If your mother and I hadn’t worked so hard to earn work points all year, would you and your siblings have grown up so well?”
Seeing that her husband supported her, Yang Lanhua immediately became emboldened and began scolding Han Zhenyu while pointing at him.
“Although I’m a stepmother, I’ve never treated you unfairly. So many people starved to death in the past few years, but you never lacked food. Now I’ve found a wife for you, and yet you’re so heartless. You are such an ungrateful person…”
Although her words sounded righteous, only she knew whether she had the confidence to say them.
Apart from the years of famine and his marriage this time, Han Zhenyu wasn’t really that angry.
He hadn’t expected this shameless woman to bring it up herself. Let him settle all the old and new scores with them today.
Han Zhenyu looked at her and said without holding back, “The reason I didn’t starve to death during those years of famine was because my grandparents and uncle took care of me. What does that have to do with you? As for how I got married, you should ask your good daughter-in-law, Zhang Qianyun. It was all her and those female educated youth who were behind it. I haven’t settled the score with them yet, and you’re still here taking credit for it. You really have thick skin. Besides, did you spend a penny on my marriage? Since you didn’t care about anything, why are you complaining to me now? Do you even deserve it?”
Then he looked at Captain Hongbing and said, “Captain, it’s not that I don’t respect you, but they are going too far. I must report to the police today.” With that, he walked out.
Han Meili was so frightened she was shaking, and Han Baoguo and Yang Lanhua’s faces changed drastically.
The captain glared at them and immediately grabbed Han Zhenyu, trying to persuade him.
“Zhenyu, don’t be impulsive. If you report it to the police, it won’t be good for you or your wife. How about this? Tell me what you want, and I’ll make the decision for you today.”
Han Zhenyu looked at the captain, hesitant for a long time, then reluctantly said, “Captain, I know the team is evaluating advanced individuals, and as a member of the Sanhua team, I don’t want to hold everyone back. But my wife was beaten so badly that she will suffer from sequelae in the future. This is a lifelong matter. If I don’t help her get revenge, what kind of man would I be?”
Seeing that his expression had softened a bit, the captain immediately smiled and advised, “I know your wife has been wronged, but the person who had a conflict with her is your sister. You are family, and even if your bones are broken, your tendons are still connected. Since the incident has already happened, don’t say anything in anger.”
Then he put his arm around his shoulders and said, “Zhenyu, how about this? Give me some face, and let’s discuss how to deal with this matter.”
Han Zhenyu thought for a while and reluctantly nodded, “Okay, I’ll listen to the captain. If it weren’t for your sake, I would definitely make those who bully my wife pay the price.”
Han Baoguo sighed with relief upon hearing this, as long as this troublemaker didn’t report it to the police.
Yang Lanhua wasn’t as optimistic as he was. Han Zhenyu, this little gangster, had never been a good person since childhood. He was full of tricks, and it was unclear what he was up to this time.
But her daughter had gotten into trouble, and if it wasn’t handled well, her reputation would be ruined.
Yang Lanhua thought to herself that if the gangster’s demands weren’t excessive, she would compromise temporarily and figure out how to deal with the couple later.
