Chapter 50: Zhixian, Apologize to Chaomu

Perhaps she was just showing off the prize she had won.

“We aren’t that familiar, so what’s there to talk about?” Wen Zhixian smiled at her.

They had no real connection. If it weren’t for Gu Yuchen bringing Li Chaomu around to meet them, Li Chaomu wouldn’t have interacted with them at all.

“At least during the years I was with Yuchen, we were familiar. But now that Yuchen and I have broken up, you just turn your back on me?” Li Chaomu spoke in a teasing tone.

Wen Zhixian nodded seriously. “Yes.”

What else could it be?

Li Chaomu was taken aback. She thought Wen Zhixian would make some lighthearted comment, but instead, she was so straightforward.

“Well then, I hope Yuchen and I get back together soon, and we can be friends again.”

Li Chaomu knew about Wen Zhixian’s relationship with Gu Yuchen later on, but Gu Yuchen’s indifference towards her had left an impression.

Wen Zhixian repeatedly said, “Good luck, then. Get Yuchen back quickly.”

Such a good thing?

Li Chaomu stared intently at Wen Zhixian, trying to read some trace of pain on her face. She didn’t believe that Wen Zhixian no longer had feelings for Gu Yuchen. The man who had been standing next to Wen Zhixian yesterday—she thought it was just Wen Zhixian making Gu Yuchen jealous.

She began to reminisce: “I finally realized just how much Yuchen loves me. Half a year ago, when I was sick, Yuchen wanted to come see me, but his family wouldn’t allow it. He could only send me money. I don’t blame him; he’s already been so good to me.”

Wen Zhixian was surprised, but there wasn’t an ounce of anger in her reaction, almost as though she were a bystander.

She hadn’t expected Gu Yuchen to continuously lower his standards, just doing a better job at hiding it from her.

She felt even more disgusted.

“So, you were the third party, destroying a relationship, and now you have the audacity to come here and say these things to provoke me? How shameless,” Wen Zhixian said, her tone cool. She wasn’t angry, just amused. It seemed Li Chaomu was trying to upset her, but she no longer had feelings for Gu Yuchen.

It was simply entertaining.

Wen Zhixian crossed her arms, watching Li Chaomu with a smirk. “I’ve already broken up with Gu Yuchen, and I’m married now. How scared are you that Yuchen and I might get back together?”

“You know how much Yuchen and I loved each other. Of course, he liked me. I’m just giving you, as his ex, a little warning,” Li Chaomu said, smirking.

Wen Zhixian raised an eyebrow, calmly sipping the warm water she had on the table. “A warning? Who gave you the nerve to warn me?”

Li Chaomu glanced out the window and then smiled, saying, “Want to try?”

Just as she finished speaking, she suddenly grabbed the hand holding the warm water and jerked it toward her.

Half a cup of water splashed onto Wen Zhixian’s face.

At that moment, Gu Yuchen appeared…

He had changed out of his hospital gown and was now dressed more formally.

Wen Zhixian remembered that just recently, Gu Yuchen had sent her a message saying he was in pain. Yet now, with a phone call from Li Chaomu, he rushed over?

Wen Zhixian couldn’t help but laugh internally, her expression calm as if it didn’t concern her at all.

She had expected nothing less than such petty tricks from them.

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have said something you didn’t want to hear,” Li Chaomu said, coughing a couple of times as if playing the role of the fragile one.

Gu Yuchen, seeing this, instinctively reached for a tissue to wipe the water from Li Chaomu’s face. Although anger flashed in his eyes, seeing her made his heart ache. “Why are you doing this to her? If you’re angry, come at me. Chaomu’s still sick.”

Wen Zhixian could only think to herself, Good thing we broke up early. Good thing I woke up in time.

“It’s fine, Yuchen, I’m okay,” Li Chaomu said, wiping the water from her face with a tissue and smiling faintly at him.

Wen Zhixian still held the cup in her hand, speaking slowly, “What am I angry about? I don’t even know her, and I don’t want to be involved with you two.”

Gu Yuchen was extremely frustrated; she didn’t take him seriously at all. He said in a low voice, “Zhixian, apologize to Chaomu.”

Wen Zhixian was speechless at Gu Yuchen. What was wrong with him? He kept pestering her, saying he wanted to see her, but at the same time, he wanted her to apologize to someone else. It was absurd.

She just wanted him to get lost.

Wen Zhixian took the half-cup of water in her hand and splashed it on Gu Yuchen’s face. If he loved Li Chaomu so much, let him share the same cup of water with her.

“I’m not the type to play petty water-throwing tricks. I’ll deal with things directly. I don’t even care about you, so what is she to me? Some people really think too much of themselves.”

She put the glass back on the table and looked at Gu Yuchen, mocking him, “Pathetic. You’ve been dumped once and still cling on.”

As she was about to leave, she threw in one last jab, “Shouldn’t CEO Gu be lying in the hospital, crying in pain?”

She laughed as she walked out of the restaurant.

A toad on your foot doesn’t bite, but it’s still annoying.

Gu Yuchen felt a string inside him snap. He didn’t understand why he had become like this. He clearly wanted Zhixian back, but why couldn’t he protect her? He subconsciously hurt her while trying to defend Chaomu, and now he truly hated himself. He had only pushed her farther away.

He turned his head abruptly, but she was already gone.

Li Chaomu’s eyes were slightly red. “Yuchen, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked you out to eat when you were sick. I’m just unfamiliar with this place… I didn’t mean to make you argue with Zhixian.”

Gu Yuchen stared at her for a few seconds. She had lost the spark he once liked about her.

Seeing her face reminded him of the years they were together. He couldn’t help but agree to her requests back then, but now he knew there was no future for them. Once she broke up with him, there was no chance left.

Even though he knew it was impossible, he still hadn’t managed to hold onto the one person who truly loved him.

Wen Zhixian left the restaurant, and a car honked twice from the side of the road.

She immediately recognized it as Zhaoli’s car and opened the passenger door to sit inside.

“I just had a battle with Li Chaomu and Gu Yuchen. Now I have to find somewhere else to eat,” she said while fastening her seatbelt.

“I saw. I had just arrived and hadn’t gotten out of the car when you came out,” Qin Zhaoli said. At least Zhixian hadn’t been at a disadvantage.

But a confrontation like that wouldn’t really happen now. Gu Yuchen wouldn’t dare to act that way toward Zhixian anymore.

Speaking of which, ever since he found out that Zhixian had gotten married, he had become somewhat listless.

Still, when it came to Li Chaomu, he was the same as always—so annoying.

They quickly changed restaurants and got their meal.

“He still wants you to apologize to Li Chaomu? Tell him to climb a tree,” Qin Zhaoli said, exasperated. “He’s completely different in front of Li Chaomu compared to how he is with us.”

“Not just that. Today, he also sent me a message, saying he was in pain and wanted me to come see him. But the next second, he appeared in the restaurant, eating with Li Chaomu.”

She emotionally said, “Love can ease pain.”

Qin Zhaoli burst out laughing, and it was a loud laugh.

After she stopped laughing, she looked at Wen Zhixian and said, “You seem much happier since you’ve been with Qi Yanjing.”

“Really?”

She could tell that?

Qin Zhaoli nodded slowly. “When you were with Gu Yuchen, your emotions were always up and down. Now, you’re much more stable, and it’s stable happiness.”

Wen Zhixian poked at her rice with chopsticks. “That’s true.”

Being with someone whose emotions are stable and who’s not indifferent but genuinely excellent makes every day a happy one.
