Chapter 29 : Leave the House
Han Baoguo’s face turned red as his daughter-in-law pointed at his nose and scolded him, but he still defended himself:
“Didn’t I give you 50 yuan a few days ago? That money is enough to build two adobe houses. You know the situation at home, and I really can’t take anything more out.”
“So my father-in-law is still thinking about my 50 yuan,” Su Xieqiu sneered, then said expressionlessly, “Didn’t I tell you? I’ve already spent that money, so stop thinking about your daughter-in-law’s compensation all the time.”
Han Baoguo saw that she was getting more and more off-track and his face turned red with anger. He was no longer as silent as usual. He said with a stern face:
“When did I ever neglect your compensation? What I meant was that I wanted you to use that money to build a house, but you keep causing trouble at home, making the whole family restless. I proposed the separation for your own good.”
“Oh, if you put it that way, Han Zhenyu and I should thank you. Thank you for letting us leave our house and for making us homeless.”
Su Xieqiu gave him a thumbs up and said, “You’re a really good father, and you really love your eldest son. If my mother-in-law knew about this, she’d probably come to chat with you tonight.”
She didn’t care how ugly Han Baoguo’s face had become and asked Han Zhenyu doubtfully, “Are you really his biological child? How is it possible that he has no regard for you? Why don’t you go and check if you was switched at birth? What kind of father treats his son like this?”
Han Zhenyu didn’t respond to the question of whether he was his biological father, because there was nothing to dispute about it.
When he was born, his eldest aunt had delivered him, with his grandmother and deceased great-grandmother also present, so he was 100% his biological son.
Han Youming and Sun Quan both tried to hold back their laughter, and even the captain struggled to suppress the curl of his lips.
They didn’t expect that Han Zhenyu’s wife was so strong in argument, with clear logic, and able to hit the key points. She could take on the whole family and leave them speechless. She was really good with words.
Han Baoguo was so angry that his face turned blue, but he was truly in the wrong, so he couldn’t say anything to counter her.
Han Youming and Sun Quan both saw through his thoughts and felt a bit disgusted, thinking that he was too cruel.
‘After all, he is my son. How can I just kick him out like that?’
‘And Yang Lanhua, her manners are so awful. Even if she’s not your biological child, you should at least give her a decent appearance.’
Han Youming stepped forward and said, “Baoguo, regardless of anything else, if you separate your son, at least build him two adobe houses, right?”
Han Baoguo sighed and sat there in silence, not responding to Han Youming’s words.
At this point, Yang Lanhua said with a sad face, “Uncle, it’s not that we don’t want to build it. In addition to the household expenses, we’ve saved a total of just a few dozen dollars over the years. We gave it all to the eldest son’s wife two days ago. His father and I are really powerless.”
“Then divide the house they live in now between them, and you can help build a kitchen for them so they can eat separately in the future,” Han Youming suggested.
“That won’t work, Uncle. The third child is getting married soon, and that house will be their wedding house.” Yang Lanhua cursed him inwardly for being meddlesome. ‘What’s it to you to know about other people’s family division? I don’t know what you’re arguing about here.’
Sun Quan asked in surprise, “What do you mean? Do you want to give them nothing? Then what’s this division? It’s obvious you want them to leave.”
Yang Lanhua was momentarily speechless from being choked by his words.
Yang Chunhua, seeing the embarrassment of her sister and brother-in-law, smiled to smooth things over, “Why does your sound so harsh when he says this? The children are grown up, and it’s time for them to go out and be self-reliant. Their parents can’t support them forever.”
“So according to what you said, your son is married why don’t you kick him out and make him fend for himself? And Zhenhua, he doesn’t seem much younger than Zhenyu. Why don’t you separate him out this time?” Sun Quan didn’t give her any face and spoke directly to her.
Yang Chunhua opened her mouth but couldn’t say anything in the end.
Han Zhenyu saw that the groundwork was almost done, and looked at Han Baoguo coldly, saying, “I can leave the house with nothing, but I have one condition. If you agree, I’ll leave with my wife tomorrow morning.”
“What are the conditions?” Yang Lanhua asked impatiently before Han Baoguo could speak.
But Han Zhenyu didn’t even glance at her and simply waited for Han Baoguo to respond.
Han Baoguo, realizing there was no way to avoid it, said, “Tell me what the conditions are.”
“I’m a nobody, So let’s stop bothering each other. After you turn 60, I’ll give you three dollars a month as compensation for raising me until I was five. But don’t ask me for anything else, including anything related to my birth, aging, sickness, or death.”
Han Baoguo was a little unhappy. He was only 40 years old this year, so that meant he would only get three dollars a month for the next 20 years. And this “son” said he wouldn’t care about his life, old age, sickness, or death.
Han Zhenyu saw through his thoughts and sneered, “I’m not negotiating this with you. If you don’t agree, then forget the family division.”
When Su Xieqiu saw Yang Chunhua winking at Yang Lanhua, she knew it was probably not going to be a good request.
So she stood up and shouted, “He already made us leave the house with nothing. Why should we give him money in the future? This family is no longer divided. Han Meili beat me so badly that I can’t work. I must have them support me for the rest of my life.”
When Yang Lanhua heard that Su Xieqiu didn’t want the division, she immediately gave up the idea.
Han Zhenyu smiled at her reassuringly, “Living with them is not good for your recovery. It’s fine if you can’t work. I will support you in the future.”
Su Xieqiu pouted deliberately and said, “The food you beg for outside won’t even be enough for you to eat alone. After the family divides, you won’t even have a place to live. In the future, you’ll have to give them three dollars every month. How will you support me?”
Han Zhenyu was almost amused by her exaggerated acting. He suppressed the corners of his lips and whispered, “I’ll borrow some money from my uncle and aunt. We’ll build a thatched hut first. I’ll work hard in the future, and the money I earn should be enough for the two of us to eat and drink.”
If Han Zhenyu hadn’t warned them in advance, Sun Quan and Han Youlai would definitely have helped with the money. If they couldn’t get the money or the house, they would have definitely asked for some food.
But they’d heard from their son that Zhenyu was very capable, and none of them cared about old man Han’s wealth.
So the two of them didn’t dare to speak, worried about ruining Zhenyu’s plan.
At this point, the Captain Hongbing spoke up, “To be honest, I’ve never seen a family divide like this. You give nothing to the children but kick the son and daughter-in-law out. Look at Zhenyu, he’s planning to give you money for your retirement. As an outsider, I think he’s done his best.”
He looked at Han Baoguo and said, “Uncle, let’s stop while we’re ahead. If we continue to make trouble, how will others see us?”
These words were serious, and Han Baoguo and Yang Lanhua didn’t dare to make any other demands.
“Okay, okay, then let’s listen to the captain and divide it this way,” Han Baoguo nodded quickly with a smile.
