Chapter 36 : He has the final say in our family
After Han Zhenyu arrived at the brick factory, he went directly to the factory director’s office.
Lin Jianbo was sitting there drinking tea and reading a newspaper. When he heard the knock on the door, he put down the teacup in his hand and said, “Come in.”
Han Zhenyu opened the door and smiled, “Excuse me, is this Director Lin?”
Lin Jianbo raised his head and saw a tall young man standing at the door. He took another look at his clothes and asked indifferently, “Who are you? What do you want from me?”
Han Zhenyu didn’t mind his attitude. He smiled and placed the note in front of him. “Hello, Director Lin. I’m Han Zhenyu from the Sanhua Brigade. I’m here to haul bricks today. Please give me your instructions.”
When Lin Jianbo heard that he was from the countryside, he frowned and said without even looking at the note:
“Everywhere you go, you ask me for bricks, but there are only a few kilns producing bricks every day. Even if you split them into eight halves, there won’t be enough to share. There are dozens of people ahead of you. Go back and wait. Come back in a few months.”
As he spoke, he casually glanced at the note. When he saw that it had been approved by the purchasing director of the county armed forces department, his attitude immediately changed.
He smiled and said, “I just remembered that there was an extra kiln of bricks yesterday. It was originally reserved for the county textile factory, but they didn’t come to take it. Since you are in a hurry, take it first.”
Han Zhenyu seemed not to notice the change in his attitude and said politely with a smile, “Thank you very much, Director Lin, but I haven’t contacted a car today. Would it be okay to come over tomorrow morning?”
Lin Jianbo smiled and waved his hand, saying enthusiastically, “No need to contact us, our factory can help deliver it. Just tell me the detailed address and we will have someone deliver it to you this afternoon.”
“Thank you so much.” Han Zhenyu expressed his gratitude with a smile.
The two shook hands like old friends, and Han Zhenyu smiled and invited him, “Director Lin, I wanted to treat you to a meal, but the company has arranged a business trip. I can only treat you when i come back. I hope you can do me the honor then.”
“It’s not a big deal. You’re too polite.”
Lin Jianbo personally saw him off and asked, “Zhenyu, where do you work?”
Han Zhenyu smiled and said, “Director Lin, I am a driver in the transport team of Songping Machinery Factory.”
“Oh, that’s a good job. The salary at Songping Machinery Factory is the best in Nanping County. Last year, my brother-in-law applied for the job but was rejected in the first round.”
Lin Jianbo was a little surprised. Han Zhenyu was dressed simply. At first, he thought he was a villager from a nearby area who wanted to buy bricks.
But the note he brought was actually approved by Director Xu of the county armed forces department himself.
Now that he heard Han Zhenyu worked at Songping Machinery Factory, he realized he had made a mistake.
Songping Machinery Factory is the best factory in their area. It’s hard to get in without strong connections.
Han Zhenyu works in the transport team, which handles the most profitable work, requiring both connections and driving skills.
His brother-in-law graduated from high school last year. Despite his father-in-law using many connections to get him in, he still failed and finally got him a job at the county textile factory.
Han Zhenyu didn’t say how he got into the factory. He just smiled and said politely, “I was just lucky. I learned to drive from others for a few days, and the factory was recruiting drivers.”
With his subtle wording, Lin Jianbo understood even more that Han Zhenyu was no simple person.
But he didn’t ask any more questions. After all, who would openly say they got in through connections? Wouldn’t that give people something to hold against them?
The two chatted for a while in the office, then Han Zhenyu went to the accountant to pay and left the brick factory on his bicycle.
Lin Jianbo gave the address Han Zhenyu left to the mail department and said, “Pack it according to the quantity above and send it over this afternoon.”
“Yes, Director Lin.” Seeing that the director personally gave instructions, the mailman arranged for someone to deliver it right away.
Su Xieqiu was sorting out the supplies that Han Lei and Sun Dashu had brought back when she heard someone calling her from outside.
“Zhenyu’s wife, the people from the brick factory are here to deliver bricks to you. They are waiting at the entrance of the village. Please go quickly.”
“Hey, here I come.”
Su Xieqiu was a little surprised. The bricks were delivered so quickly?
She locked the door and hurried to the village entrance.
There were already several carts loaded with red bricks parked there, and many villagers were gathered around, watching.
Su Xieqiu walked forward with a smile, “Master, are these bricks ordered by Han Zhenyu?”
The leader nodded and said politely, “Yes, where should these bricks go?”
“Master, please follow me and go north.” Su Xieqiu hurriedly led the way.
In fact, she didn’t know the exact location of her home. She only knew it was near the mountains, close to Sun Dahan’s home.
Han Lei and Sun Dashu were there with a few villagers, cleaning up the dilapidated house.
When they saw Su Xieqiu coming with the brick delivery, they immediately shouted, “Sister-in-law, tell the workers to bring the bricks down here. The place has been cleaned up.”
“Good.”
Seeing that the brick-carrying workers were sweating profusely, Su Xieqiu asked Sun Dahan’s wife to help boil a pot of water.
She then went back to get the bag of steamed buns that Han Zhenyu had bought.
“Masters, we just moved in, and we don’t even have a pot yet. All we have are these steamed buns at home. Please fill your stomachs first.”
When the brick deliverers saw that the buns were made from white flour, they were too embarrassed to accept them.
In the past, when delivering bricks, even if it was mealtime, the host would at most offer them water, not food let alone white flour buns like these.
Su Xieqiu smiled and stuffed the buns into the leader’s bag. “It’s so hot today. Thank you for your hard work. There are only a few buns here. Please share them among you.”
Seeing her sincere gesture, the man took the buns with a smile and said gratefully, “Thank you, big sister.”
After seeing off the brick factory workers, Su Xieqiu looked around for a moment and then went to the adobe house.
Han Lei and his team were working very quickly, and the roof was almost done.
Su Xieqiu said, “Han Lei, this place is too close to the mountain, and there’s no yard. The door needs to be made stronger.”
Han Zhenyu’s grandfather and uncle would live here until the house was finished, which would take at least a month.
It didn’t matter whether they were comfortable or not, but she had to ensure their safety.
Han Lei smiled and nodded, “Got it, sister-in-law.”
When Su Xieqiu returned, the people at the village entrance hadn’t left yet. Upon seeing her, they all asked:
“Zhenyu’s wife, why did you buy so many bricks? Are you planning to build a few houses? These bricks must have cost a lot of money, right?”
Su Xieqiu shook her head. “Han Zhenyu bought them. I don’t know how much they cost. I don’t understand these things..”
She decided to act like a typical wife who defers to her husband, shifting all the responsibility onto Han Zhenyu.
Anyway, the man seemed hard to talk to, and few villagers would dare approach him with questions.
One woman asked maliciously, “Didn’t you leave the house empty-handed? Where did you get the money to buy the bricks?”
