Chapter 24 The Cunning Merchant Was Left With Only His Underwear
Even with the small flashlight in her hand, the faint light illuminated the gleaming silver, making the entire room bright.
She had seen mountains of rice before.
Now, this was a mountain of silver, no, it should be called mountains.
Rows upon rows of silver coins, like the mountains in Mengru Town, stretched endlessly.
She suddenly understood why Zhang, the head accountant, had abandoned his wife and daughter. With so much silver, he would probably be willing to kill his own wife and daughter.
However, the Bai family had so much silver, yet Zhang, the head accountant, still sold inferior goods to the people, selling white sand instead of rice.
Indeed, human desire can never be satisfied.
Chu Chenyin raised an eyebrow and moved all these silver mountains into her space.
The space on the third floor continued to expand. When all the silver was moved in, looking around, only a small part was filled. Chu Chenyin was completely relieved.
After coming out of the space, Fu Yanting immediately took her away from the warehouse and went to Zhang, the head accountant’s house, which was the Bai family’s mansion.
The Bai family’s mansion was not as heavily guarded as the warehouse. There were only a few people patrolling at night.
Fu Yanting lit smoke bombs in various places in the mansion.
These smoke bombs were originally used by their army in battle, but Chu Chenyin added some of her own things, making the smoke colorless and odorless.
Soon, the entire Bai family mansion was enveloped in smoke.
The people in the mansion unknowingly fell into a deep sleep.
Chu Chenyin followed Fu Yanting to Zhang, the head accountant’s room first.
His room had many good things, not only precious stone carvings and porcelain, but also some high-quality ink, brush, paper, and inkstone.
Chu Chenyin took them all.
Then, she went to the rooms of Zhang, the head accountant’s wife, and his several step-sons and step-daughters.
Chu Chenyin went through them all, moving all the valuable things into her space.
She thought that this way of looting would make Fu Yanting think she was cold-blooded.
But when she looked up, she saw Fu Yanting carrying a pile of calligraphy and paintings, “Take these too.”
Chu Chenyin was stunned and quickly took them.
Then, Fu Yanting moved several tables and chairs, “These are made of yellow sandalwood.”
Chu Chenyin was dumbfounded. It seemed that he really didn’t want to leave anything for Zhang, the head accountant.
Alright, it’s rare for him to be sensible. Take it, take it all.
Chu Chenyin stretched out her hand and moved everything Fu Yanting had found into her space.
After they finished moving the front room, they went to the back room.
In the backyard of the back room, besides the grain, there were also the pastries that the Bai family’s young ladies ate daily.
Chu Chenyin took a piece of osmanthus pastry and took a bite. She thought it tasted good and moved it all into her space.
Fortunately, she had a preservation space. These pastries could be kept in it and would be a treat for her later.
After leaving the Bai family’s mansion, they went to the Bai family’s shops.
The Bai family had over ten shops, selling rice, rouge, and cloth.
Chu Chenyin took everything except the rice mixed with white sand into her space. She also kept a box of rouge for herself.
The rouge was orange-red, much prettier than the lipstick she had bought before.
With the crowing of a rooster, a purple glow appeared in the sky, and the sun slowly rose.
Chu Chenyin returned home with Fu Yanting, laden with loot.
They had been busy all night and fell onto the bed, ignoring any etiquette, and fell asleep under the same blanket.
As the sky grew brighter, a sharp cry gradually came from the Bai family’s mansion.
“Ah! My snuff bottle! My calligraphy and paintings! My pear wood imperial concubine chair! My clothes!” Zhang, the head accountant, stood at the door of his room, wearing only a white undergarment, and shouted loudly.
His face was pale, and his body trembled, as if he was still in a dream.
“Master! It’s not good! Our mansion has been robbed!” The servants all ran over.
At this time, Zhang, the head accountant’s wife also woke up. When she woke up, not only were the jewels and jewelry on her dressing table gone, but even the fine silk quilt she was covering herself with was gone.
“Master! Thieves have broken into the house! Master!”
The chaotic cries echoed through the mansion.
Zhang, the head accountant, returned to his room and searched high and low, but he couldn’t find his clothes. He was about to use the silver to buy some, but he realized that the copper coins in his pocket and the valuables in the room were all gone.
With no choice, Zhang, the head accountant, could only wear the clothes of the servants with his family.
Zhang’s wife wiped her tears and said, “Master, what should we do? Everything in the mansion is gone, even the rice in the backyard is gone.”
Zhang, the head accountant, was so angry that he couldn’t even sit up on the bed. He pressed his aching head, “Don’t worry, we’ve already gone to the warehouse to get the silver.”
Zhang’s wife sighed, “There are so many things in the house, worth a lot of silver. Master, can we catch the thief?”
