◎ She fell into a dark abyss again. ◎
Yu Ran’s recovery was as quick as she said it would be. After taking the medicine, she felt as good as new the next day.
For breakfast, Shen Suhui made red bean and jujube dumplings, fried two pieces of brown sugar rice cakes, prepared two bowls of tomato meat sauce pasta, and warmed up two glasses of milk.
It was a very hearty meal.
For lunch, Shen Suhui also prepared a loving bento box forYu Ran. She got up early, and while Yu Ran was still brushing her teeth at the sink, Shen Suhui slipped the bento box into her bag.
“Make sure to heat this up before you eat it, okay? Don’t be lazy, understand?”
“Okay~” Ju Ran lazily replied, drawing out her words.
Shen Suhui leaned in to kiss her on the cheek.
Yu Ran spat out a mouthful of toothpaste foam and asked, “What time did you get up this morning?”
“Four fifty. Why?”
“That early?” Ju Ran was shocked. “Was it to make breakfast for me?”
Yu Ran wanted to say there was no need for such effort; she could either make breakfast herself or order delivery. But before she could speak, Shen Suhui cuddled up to her shoulder and affectionately said, “I wanted to make breakfast for you. When you’re not here, I still get up at five twenty, so it’s not much different!”
Yu Ran put down her cup, hugged Shen Suhui’s waist, and kissed her lips.
The two kissed passionately. When they finally released each other, their gazes were hazy with desire.
“Is it because I didn’t misbehave last night?” Yu Ran teased, pinching Shen Suhui’s waist. “And you still had the energy to get up so early!”
Shen Suhui giggled, trying to escape as Yu Ran playfully grabbed her waist from behind, holding her tightly.
They hadn’t been intimating for several days, and last night, due to her illness, they hadn’t been able to connect. Yu Ran was feeling particularly anxious. Although it was almost time for work, she yearned for more physical contact with Shen Suhui.
Yu Ran kissed the back of Shen Suhui’s neck. The sensitivity made Shen Suhui shiver and try to pull away, her body responding to the stimulation while also wanting to flee.
The heated kisses soon aroused Shen Suhui. She longed for Yu Ran’s touch and reciprocated the kisses, pulling Yu Ran closer, their bodies pressed together.
Yu Ran enjoyed Shen Suhui’s response and gently held her waist, lifting her onto the sink counter.
Standing in front of Shen Suhui, Yu Ran spread her knees apart, embraced her waist, and kissed her passionately on her lips, chin, and neck…
The room was filled with the sound of their passionate breaths. Shen Suhui felt short of breath but didn’t want Yu Ran to stop. She tilted her head back, trying to find something to hold onto with her delicate fingers.
Yu Ran’s hand covered hers, intertwining their fingers.
“Shen Suhui.”
“…Yes?”
“You’re so beautiful,” Yu Ran murmured, touching her hair.
“…”
“Really beautiful, baby.”
Realizing they might not be able to stop, Shen Suhui glanced at her watch and gently pushed Yu Ran, urging, “The breakfast will get cold. You still have to go to work…”
“Yeah.”
Yu Ran responded softly, though it was unclear if she really heard.
After they had enough of kissing, they pressed their foreheads together. Yu Ran’s kisses became gentle, like snowflakes falling on Shen Suhui’s cheeks.
They cuddled for a while before sitting down to eat breakfast.
“Thank you for your hard work, honey.”
Yu Ran raised her glass of milk, clinking it with Shen Suhui’s.
After breakfast, they left together. Ju Ran didn’t drive; Shen Suhui took her to the hospital before heading to the café, where they both started their busy day.
Today’s lunch box was quite elaborate, with a layer of kung pao chicken and vegetables over rice, topped with a heart-shaped sunny-side-up egg.
Yu Ran couldn’t help but feel reluctant to eat it. She took a photo and sent it to Shen Suhui.
Yu Ran smiled gently.
She sent a cute GIF of a cat rolling over and being playful.
They didn’t contact each other again that afternoon. When Yu Ran was seeing patients, there was a never-ending line at her door—some were just signing up, some were returning after getting their X-rays, and occasionally, a few young people feigned illness, only to flirt with her when she asked seriously what was wrong.
“What do you regret?”
“I regret the years I spent with Du Qiuyan.”
Yu Ran looked sincerely at Shen Suhui; her eyes had always been honest.
“After we broke up, I initially thought that not denying the relationship meant I didn’t regret it. At first, I didn’t blame her either. But now, I’ve suddenly realized that I really dislike her. I dislike her so much that I’ve been asking myself why I ever liked someone like that…”
Yu Ran tightly gripped the MP3 player in her hand. “It started when she went crazy yesterday and threw my things around.”
“Let the past be the past,” Shen Suhui comforted her.
They held hands, Yu Ran looking into Shen Suhui’s eyes, which glistened in the warm yellow light.
Shen Suhui smiled. “Let’s not think about anything else, okay? We need to keep looking forward!”
Yu Ran was moved by her strength and sincerity. She couldn’t help but lean in, wanting to kiss Shen Suhui’s face.
“No!”
Shen Suhui didn’t push her away but asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I have a cold, I can’t touch you.”
Shen Suhui laughed. “I’m very healthy!”
“Still, no!”
“Alright!” Shen Suhui hugged her other arm, which wasn’t hooked up to an IV, and swung her feet. “Then you’ll have to bear it.”
Yu Ran turned her head and couldn’t help but kiss her hair.
“Yu Ran.”
“Hmm?”
Shen Suhui suddenly asked, “If I hadn’t called you, what would you have done about your fever? Would you have endured it until tomorrow morning?”
“Maybe!” Yu Ran said lightly. “Because I exercise, so I’m in good health. When I had a fever before, I rarely took medicine. I’d drink more hot water, sleep for a night, and be fine the next day. You don’t need to worry.”
“So, this is how you’ve always managed?”
“…”
Yu Ran’s smile stiffened, then she showed a cold expression.
“What’s wrong with that!”
No matter how long she stayed at home, her parents wouldn’t notice if she had a fever. Today, after sleeping all day, Zhong Wanli only came up to call her once when Jiang Shilu arrived. She didn’t notice anything unusual either.
If Yu Ran had taken the initiative to say she was sick and felt uncomfortable, Mrs. Zhong would definitely show a worried look, take her to see a doctor, and act like a good mother.
But unfortunately, Yu Ran wouldn’t take the initiative.
She wouldn’t seek the depths of her parents’ love.
Shen Suhui felt immense heartache. It turned out that the girl she had admired from afar in her youth was so neglected. She always thought someone as excellent, sunny, and free as Yu Ran must have been raised with love.
She was getting drenched now, but she wanted to hold an umbrella for Yu Ran for a lifetime.
Shen Suhui held Yu Ran’s hand tightly.
“Don’t worry, Yu Ran, I’ll be good to you for a lifetime.”
“Only good to you, the best to you.”
Shen Suhui’s smile was beautiful and sweet, comforting her while also being sincere.
In her heart, Yu Ran was more important than her own life.
Yu Ran stared at her face obsessively and suddenly pressed her neck, leaning in to touch foreheads and finally kissing Shen Suhui’s nose.
“Thank you,” Yu Ran smiled. “I will also repay you for a lifetime.”
After the IV drip was finished, Yu Ran felt much better. The doctor prescribed medicine, and Shen Suhui took her home.
As soon as the door opened, Lucky jumped down from the cat tree and rushed to Yu Ran’s feet. Yu Ran bent down to pick her up.
Lucky meowed, rubbed against her neck, and started licking her face.
“I told you Lucky really missed you,” Shen Suhui kissed Yu Ran on the cheek. “Shall we make some porridge for dinner?”
Yu Ran smiled and said, “I love everything you make.”
Shen Suhui went to the kitchen. Yu Ran turned on the TV and started trimming the cat’s nails. She randomly picked a movie channel, which happened to be playing Du Qiuyan’s famous work. Yu Ran turned it off with a cold expression.
Shen Suhui heard the noise and poked her head out of the kitchen.
“So fierce~”
Yu Ran held Lucky, waving her paw and making a fierce gesture.
Meanwhile, at the Du family’s villa, Du Qiuyan sat on the sofa. In the vast house, she was the only one. The table was full of empty bottles, and many were broken on the floor, all consumed by her in one night.
She swayed a wine glass and took a big gulp.
A string of phone calls came in, and Du Qiuyan answered.
“Did you find out?”
“Yes, the information is in your email.”
Du Qiuyan hung up, opened her laptop, and, seeing the empty bottle, got up to open another one.
The information detailed Shen Suhui’s life from childhood to adulthood, her family relationships, academic achievements, entrepreneurial records, and recent photos.
Including those of her hugging and kissing Yu Ran.
“Such an ordinary person, no ability, no background. Yu Ran’s taste is getting worse and worse…”
Du Qiuyan went mad, drinking half a bottle directly from the bottle.
She laughed maniacally, “How can such an ordinary woman be my opponent?!”
“Damn it! How does this bitch deserve it?!”
“Yu Ran, Yu Ran…”
“I must get you back to my side!”
Du Qiuyan paced barefoot in the living room, her mind filled with Yu Ran’s image, her smile still so close, so real.
She didn’t believe it, she wouldn’t believe Yu Ran could be so heartless.
She absolutely wouldn’t believe it!!!
Du Qiuyan dialed that number again.
“How long do I have to wait?”
“At most an hour…”
“More than an hour?” Du Qiuyan sneered.
“Otherwise, I can refund you, and you can go to another shop. There are more than just mine here.” Shen Suhui coldly stared into Du Qiuyan’s eyes, even though her hands, clenched into fists behind her back, couldn’t stop trembling.
“…” Du Qiuyan remained silent for a long time.
Shen Suhui turned to the staff and said, “Close the shop. You start, I’ll drive and get the materials right away…”
When Shen Suhui returned, the staff had already prepared as much coffee as they could. The two of them worked quickly to finish the rest.
“Isn’t she a public figure? How can she be so arrogant? If she dares to expose us, we’ll expose her too. Let’s see whose problem is worse.”
“Don’t talk too much, just hurry up and finish.”
“Boss, you’re too soft-hearted.”
“I am soft-hearted, but some problems aren’t as simple as we think…” Shen Suhui explained earnestly, “This society is very realistic. She’s a celebrity. Maybe exposing this will affect her future career, but have you thought about her background and her status in the entertainment industry?”
“For us, it’s the truth, but for her, she just needs to spend a little money to turn things upside down or even misrepresent the facts, making it all our fault in the end. Online public opinion is terrifying. She can easily ruin a café like ours…”
“…” The staff nodded, humbly accepting the lesson.
Finally, after they finished all the coffee, Du Qiuyan took a sip of her portion and angrily stood up, smashing it on the ground.
“Why does it taste so bad?” Du Qiuyan exclaimed. “You expect me to let our crew drink this stuff?”
Du Qiuyan started yelling like a madwoman, “I waited for almost two hours!!!”
Before Shen Suhui could respond, the crazy woman swept all the packed coffee off the table, quickly making a mess of the shop.
“What exactly do you want?” Shen Suhui shouted. “Xiaolin, call the police immediately.”
“You dare…!!!” Du Qiuyan glared at her, “I have money, a lot of money. Do you understand, Shen Suhui? Do you believe that not only will your café go out of business, but you’ll also have to pay me a large sum for emotional distress? And that bloodsucking mother of yours, do you have the money to compensate me?”
“…” Shen Suhui stood there as if nailed to the spot, speechless.
“What about you…”
“And, your mother has been setting you up with rich people since high school, hasn’t she? You almost got married and had kids right after graduation. Do you need me to tell Yu Ran all about this?”
“Would she think that you’re with her just for the money?”
“…”
Shen Suhui, with red-rimmed eyes, glared at her, fists clenched, body trembling uncontrollably.
“Your past… is far from glorious.”
“What? Angry? Ready to explode?” Du Qiuyan taunted, “Then come on, don’t be a cowardly turtle. How can a timid coward stand next to Yu Ran?”
“Let me see,” Du Qiuyan closed her eyes, a mocking smile on her lips, “You should be able to endure everything I do to you, right? After all, you’re afraid of death, a coward who dares not do anything, and then at night, will you just hide in Yu Ran’s arms and cry, secretly tattling on me…”
“…”
Shen Suhui trembled all over, feeling suffocated. Du Qiuyan’s words were like knives stabbing into her heart, exposing her bloody vulnerabilities.
She fell back into a dark abyss.
“I know your experiences turned you into a coward. You didn’t grow up in a good family environment, and few people liked you from childhood to adulthood. But so what? You’re a mental patient. You even had schizophrenia before and were committed to a mental hospital for a year. After being discharged, it turned into bipolar disorder. Does… Yu Ran know all of this?”
“Does she know her beloved girlfriend is a lunatic?!!!”
“…”
Over and over, digging and questioning.
Finally, Shen Suhui, like a madwoman, lunged at Du Qiuyan. She grabbed her by the neck, lifted her up, and then yanked her hair, slamming her down on the counter.
Crash—
The expensive coffee machine fell to the ground, along with the freshly opened high-quality coffee beans.
Shen Suhui was stronger than Du Qiuyan, so she barely got hurt. Du Qiuyan felt humiliated but vented her anger today, leaving with a video of the scene.
The farce ended as quickly as it started. After Du Qiuyan left, the surveillance showed Shen Suhui collapsing to the ground, burying her head in her knees, and rubbing her disheveled hair.
It was a sign of depression and anxiety.
After a stalemate for more than ten minutes, she forced herself to stand up and cleaned the café with the staff until Yu Ran arrived.
These disgraceful conversations and moments were one of the reasons why Shen Suhui didn’t want to face Yu Ran directly.
