Seventies Countryside Medical Romance Chapter 52

Chapter 52: Midnight Plea for Help

It wasn’t until almost nightfall that the raindrops continued to lightly tap against the window. A figure gradually emerged from the darkness in the distance.

Jiang Nian’s clothes were clearly changed. She was easily carrying two sacks in one hand and holding an oil-paper umbrella in the other. The figure walking in the rain was dashing and graceful, completely unaffected by the sacks, with a unique charm.

Ye Zhiqiu almost instantly opened the door and rushed out with an umbrella. “Master, where have you been?”

“Getting something.” Jiang Nian said as she entered the house. She placed the sacks on the ground, opened the oil-paper umbrella, and then asked, “Is there any food left?”

“Yes, I didn’t know when Master would be back, so I made some and kept it warm in the pot. I’ll go get it for Master now.” Ye Zhiqiu said as she went to do so.

She had made steamed noodles today, with finely chopped meat and cabbage steamed together. It was very oily and smelled delicious.

She brought a bowl for her grandfather. Because Jiang Nian hadn’t come back, she had been waiting for her and hadn’t eaten herself.

“The big bag contains cotton. You know how to sew clothes, so do whatever you want. Don’t be frugal with food and clothing. The other bag is rice. Make some rice porridge tomorrow morning and steam rice for lunch.” Jiang Nian finished speaking and then started to eat.

She hadn’t eaten rice in a long time, and she missed it.

Ye Zhiqiu had never tasted rice in her life. She was instantly excited. “Okay, I’ll make it for Master tomorrow.”

Jiang Nian had been out for a while, and she had already changed her wet clothes and shoes. Her clothes were clearly dry, and she had changed into rubber shoes.

She didn’t know that Jiang Nian hadn’t actually gone far. She had just gone into her space in a secluded place nearby, tidied herself up, rested for a while, and then came out. She also reorganized the animals she had collected in her space, to prevent them from growing too much and eventually filling the space with them, which is why she was delayed until now.

But because of this, Ye Zhiqiu’s opinion of Yan Jin worsened.

She didn’t know that Jiang Nian had a space. She subconsciously thought that if it hadn’t been for Yan Jin following them all the way, her master could have gotten the things back when they returned from town. There was no need to send her home and then go back specifically to get the things.

Ye Zhiqiu had developed a habit. She would worry about Jiang Nian, but she didn’t dare to ask her where she had been or how she got the things.

Jiang Nian had told her before to do her own job and not ask so many questions. She didn’t like people asking about her whereabouts. Ye Zhiqiu had always remembered this and strictly followed it.

The tabby cat was a carnivore and didn’t like noodles very much, so it hardly touched the noodles in its bowl.

But there was no need to worry too much. It was already several months old, and it was a fighting breed of cat. It had always been free-range, so it could catch mice and birds to supplement its diet.

She had just finished eating and cleaned up. She washed up and was about to rest when she heard a commotion outside.

“Jiang Nian, open the door quickly, something’s happened…”

She quickly put on her clothes and opened the door. She saw several big men carrying a door panel, and Zhou Shugen was lying on it, groaning in pain.

He wasn’t in good shape. His exposed skin was covered in boils, enough to give anyone trypophobia.

Especially as he rolled, some of them had burst, and the nearby skin was covered in pus, which looked disgusting.

“Jiang Nian, quickly save him. Zhou Shugen went to the big hospital to see a doctor a while ago, but they didn’t cure him, and they made him worse. Since it started raining today, he’s been complaining of pain, but he can’t say where it hurts. He couldn’t bear it anymore at night, and he was about to die of pain…”

Everyone else thought that he, a big man, couldn’t even bear a little pain. But when he was in so much pain that he wanted to kill himself with a knife, everyone realized the seriousness of the situation.

But saying it like that was unfair to the doctors at the big hospital.

Only Jiang Nian knew that it wasn’t a disease, but poison, and it was poison that she had personally administered.

It wasn’t a fatal poison, but it would cause the victim to grow boils all over their body, which would then burst, and the pus would stick to the surrounding skin and continue to grow. There was no antidote, and it wouldn’t heal.

As for the pain all over his body, it’s probably because he took some medicine when he went to see a doctor, which not only didn’t detoxify him but also aggravated the poison in his body.

Ye Zhiqiu also came to the room at this time. Looking at the man lying on the bed, groaning in pain, even though he was in a terrible state, she only felt a sense of satisfaction in her heart.

Just like when he forced her mother to death and sold her, no one felt sorry for them, did they?

If she hadn’t been lucky enough to be saved by her master, she might already be the wife of that idiot Zhang.

Although the Zhang family wasn’t bad, they had paid a lot of money to buy her. Without paying back the money, they couldn’t just let her go with a few words.

Ye Zhiqiu hated Zhou Shugen. Her previous hatred was for his ruthlessness and lack of loyalty in abandoning them. But she still remembered that he was her father. Now, her hatred was deep-seated. She wished he would die and atone for his sins against her mother.

She gripped Jiang Nian’s arm, unconsciously applying a little force.

Jiang Nian looked down at her, her heart as hard as iron in the face of everyone’s pleas for help. “I can’t treat his illness.”

Zhou Shugen had come to beg her before, the last time, he even knelt on the ground.

Jiang Nian still only said this one sentence.

The reason she hadn’t let him die a quick death was because she had become worldly and smooth after experiencing life and death, understanding the consequences that killing would bring her. It wasn’t because the man in front of her didn’t deserve to die.

The few people who had carried him in looked at each other, clearly not believing her words.

“Doctor Jiang, we all know that Zhou Shugen is a bastard. He has offended you before, but this is a human life after all. We can’t just watch him die in pain. We hope you can put aside your prejudice and help him, okay?”

“Yes, after all, it’s a human life. We can’t just watch him die in pain in front of us. We can’t bear it!”

Several people spoke at once, trying to persuade Jiang Nian to temporarily put aside her punishment and save the man first.

In this situation, if she said no again, it would make her seem unsympathetic.

Jiang Nian’s lips curled up slightly, she suddenly found it interesting.

What a bad day it was today. She kept encountering people who wanted to morally bind her. It was really great!

Zhou Shugen had boils on the back of his hand and wrist, and she really didn’t want to touch them.

She instructed Ye Zhiqiu, “Go get me a piece of cloth.”

Ye Zhiqiu hesitated and looked at Jiang Nian with pain, but she still did as she was told.

When she brought the cloth back, she saw Jiang Nian placing the cloth on Zhou Shugen’s wrist and then taking his pulse.

She was extremely fast, clearly disgusted.

But there was no need to be picky. Zhou Shugen was in such a state, anyone would be disgusted, let alone a girl.

“Since he’s been to the hospital, he should know his condition. This illness isn’t easy to cure.”

Hearing this, even the bystanders felt a little discouraged, and Zhou Shugen couldn’t accept it.

“Doctor Jiang, Doctor Jiang, please save me. I was wrong before, it was all my fault. I beg you, I’m in so much pain, I’m dying. Please help me…” Zhou Shugen begged Jiang Nian, then turned to pull Ye Zhiqiu. “Little Chrysanthemum, Father knows he was wrong, Father really knows he was wrong. Quickly plead for me. I’m really in so much pain, I can’t take it anymore. Let me die, ah ah ah…”
