Seventies Countryside Medical Romance Chapter 72

Chapter 72: Arrange to Send the Letter

Li Qing looked at Jiang Nian expectantly. She wasn’t a decisive person, and after experiencing the ordeal, she was even more flustered. She desperately hoped for someone she could trust to be by her side to help her.

Jiang Nian had saved her, so naturally, she became the person she trusted.

But Jiang Nian had other concerns. She looked at her and said, “I should go back first. Your mother is still in surgery. Someone needs to go back and tell your brother and the others.”

Li Qing was a little disappointed, but she knew Jiang Nian was right.

Her timidity was not hard to see. Jiang Nian patted her shoulder encouragingly. “Be strong. I’ll tell your brother and the others to come as soon as possible.”

She then turned to Mingzhi. “Comrade, I see you have quite a few injuries. You need to rest. Why don’t you come back with me?”

“Sister Mingzhi is also injured. Quickly have the doctor take a look at you and ask if you can be arranged for a ward to rest.”

Jiang Nian couldn’t stay, so Li Qing hoped Mingzhi would stay.

Even if she couldn’t help, at least she would have someone to talk to. Otherwise, she would be so scared here alone.

“She just has some minor injuries. I’ll get some medicine for her to rub on when we get back.”

As soon as Jiang Nian finished speaking, Mingzhi quickly said, “Qingqing, I want to go back.”

There was no further explanation. She didn’t want to explain to anyone now. Even being able to maintain her composure took all her strength.

The driver was also urging them.

After all, they had done what they could. The comrades outside were all waiting to go back. And the four men who stayed behind to search. Although the police officer should have already gone there, he was there to investigate, not to escort people.

Jiang Nian and Mingzhi got on the bus and didn’t speak.

They had been delayed, and it was already dusk.

When they left the city and passed by that place again, the scene had already been taken over by the police. The four men were squatting by the side of the road waiting for the bus.

After getting on the bus, someone immediately asked about the situation at the scene.

They learned that shortly after they took the injured to the hospital, the woman who had run away on the ox came back with a group of people to help.

As the victim, she had been taken back to the police station by the police.

Mingzhi clasped her hands together, her whole body trembling.

Jiang Nian took out another pill for her. “It’s for calming the nerves. Do you want it?”

Mingzhi shook her head. “Thank you, I don’t need it. I can handle it.”

Jiang Nian put the pill back in her bag, calmly.

It was completely dark by the time they reached the town.

The driver was worried. “It’s dark and the road is long. The small road is even more dangerous. Why don’t we ask if anyone on the bus lives in the town? Let the two women stay overnight. It’s convenient for others and for ourselves.”

Jiang Nian looked at her watch. It was eight o’clock. “No need. Thank you for your concern, but we have a place to go. We won’t trouble you.”

Others thought she meant she had relatives or acquaintances in the town.

After getting off the bus, the bus drove away. Jiang Nian said, “Wait here for a moment. I’ll be back in two minutes.”

Without waiting for her to answer, her figure disappeared into the darkness.

Mingzhi looked around nervously, her nerves on edge.

But soon, Jiang Nian reappeared in her sight. She was riding a bicycle back.

The bicycle stopped right in front of her. Jiang Nian said, “Let’s go. I’ll take you back.”

The bicycle was taken out of her space. Unfortunately, the things she bought were still in her space. She wouldn’t have a chance to take them out today.

Mingzhi sat behind Jiang Nian on the bicycle, her arms wrapped tightly around Jiang Nian’s waist.

She pedaled quickly, her legs moving up and down tirelessly, as if she had endless energy.

As soon as Jiang Nian reached the gate, Ye Zhiqiu came out to greet her. “Master, why are you back so late?”

Her gaze fell on Mingzhi behind her, looking puzzled.

“There was a little problem,” Jiang Nian said without entering the courtyard. “You go boil some water so Comrade Mingzhi can take a bath and change into some clothes. First, get her one of my spare outfits.”

Ye Zhiqiu had grown a bit taller and gained some weight recently, but Mingzhi was slightly plump, so Jiang Nian’s clothes would still fit her.

After saying that, she turned to Mingzhi. “I need to go to Yan’s home. Do you need to notify anyone at your place?”

“Don’t…” Mingzhi hesitated slightly but then said, “Just let them know. Tell them I’m injured and recovering at your place. By the time they come, I should have everything sorted out.”

That was what Jiang Nian had in mind, and it would also explain why she had changed clothes.

Mingzhi’s original clothes had been torn beyond recognition, and she was wearing what Jiang Nian had originally bought to compensate Zhang Er. Fortunately, she had considered that Ye Zhiqiu had to learn a lot every day, so she bought ready-made clothes. Otherwise, she would have had to use the ancient costumes from her space or the brightly colored clothes she brought from Su City, which would have stood out too much.

But since they were men’s clothes, it wouldn’t make sense for her family to see her in them. That’s why Jiang Nian had asked Ye Zhiqiu to find her a piece of her own clothing to wear.

Jiang Nian headed to Yan’s home, intending to deliberately stall for time by visiting Yan Jin’s family first.

She had never been there and didn’t know the exact address. Luckily, the first household she encountered in the village hadn’t closed their door yet. It happened to be a sister who had seen her for a medical visit before. Although her memory was a bit fuzzy after some time, she still recognized her.

Jiang Nian politely asked, “Comrade, could you please tell me where Director Yan’s house is?”

The sister recognized her and said, “Oh, isn’t this Dr. Jiang? It’s so late. Are you looking for Director Yan?”

“I have a bit of business with him. Could you please help me out and direct me?”

“Just follow this road to the end; the last house is his.”

After Jiang Nian left, the woman’s husband came out. “Who were you talking to this late at night?”

“It’s Dr. Jiang from Zhoujia Village. She’s looking for Director Yan by name. You know, they really make a good couple; they look quite matched.”

“Don’t talk nonsense. Don’t forget that Director Yan has Li Qing at home. If Aunt Yan hears you, you won’t have a good outcome.” The man warned her quietly.

The woman’s interest in gossip faded significantly. “I was just saying that offhand, but although Li Qing was raised in the Yan family and has a betrothal with Yan Jin arranged by their elders, her looks are just too plain. She’s really not as charming as Dr. Jiang.”

The man found her words unpleasant and scolded her a few more times before they both closed the door and went back inside.

Yan Jin’s house hadn’t been closed either, as there were still two people who hadn’t returned yet. Only Yan’s father was at home.

Jiang Nian pushed the bicycle inside and asked, “Is Director Yan here?”

“He’s not. What do you need him for?”

Jiang Nian frowned. How could it be so coincidental that he wasn’t home at this time?

Yan’s father looked elderly and gray-haired. Jiang Nian was afraid that directly stating her purpose would upset him, so she asked, “When will he be back? Or where can I find him?”

“Why are you being so shameless, looking for a man at this hour? Just tell me what you need, and I can pass the message to him. He went to pick up his mother and wife. I don’t even know when he’ll be back.”

Jiang Nian didn’t understand why he had such hostility. Perhaps it was similar to Yan’s mother, who thought she was trying to seduce Yan Jin.

But since others were being ungracious, she had nothing to hold back.

“Yan Jin’s mother and sister have had an accident and are at the city hospital. I’m here to deliver a message.”

She had noticed that this old man was already irritable, and she didn’t want to provoke him further.

Sure enough, after hearing her words, Yan’s father staggered back, barely managing to hold onto a nearby bench for support. Jiang Nian didn’t bother to check on him further; she knew he would be in shock.
