Chapter 52: Seeking Medical Attention for Her in the Rain
He leaned back in his seat, eyes closed, waiting for her to change out of her wet clothes.
The sound of heavy rain pounding against the car window filled his ears. It had been a long time since Yincheng had seen such a downpour.
The car’s heater warmed the air. “Whose clothes are these?” she muttered, confused. “Why would they be in the car?”
The man didn’t open his eyes. His thin lips parted slightly. “They were custom-made for you. I haven’t had a chance to give them to you yet. Try them on. They’re your size.”
She froze for a moment, her mind reeling.
Zhan Jingting added, “There are no other women around me. I distrust human emotions.”
With the new clothes and a dry towel in her hands, Lin Banxia stared at his profile for a long time. His slightly weary expression revealed that his mind was racing.
After a few seconds of hesitation, she thought, “Well, we have a child together, and he rushed into the bathroom that day… He’s seen everything he needs to see.”
She decided there was no need to be awkward. They still had a half-hour drive back to the city, and it was freezing cold.
So, in the passenger seat, Lin Banxia changed out of her wet clothes. His words echoed in her ears: “I distrust human emotions.”
Had he been hurt in the past?
Zhan Jingting remained a gentleman, keeping his head tilted back and his eyes closed. His feelings now were completely different from when he came to find her.
Lin Banxia calmly changed out of her wet clothes. The new clothes fit perfectly. The color was her favorite, the fabric felt luxurious, and the style was modern.
But why would he buy her clothes? Was it a thank you for giving him a child?
Putting her wet clothes into a bag, Lin Banxia turned and quietly looked at him. “…” His facial muscles were clearly defined, his features handsome, and there were faint dark circles under his eyes.
He hadn’t slept well last night.
“Are you done?” The man asked gently, having heard no sound for a long time.
“Yes,” she replied, regaining her composure. “I’m done.”
He opened his eyes and turned to look at her. She sat upright, the heavy rain pouring outside, while she remained calm and serene like a lily in the car. “These clothes suit you well.”
“Thank you,” she said softly, avoiding his gaze.
Then, he called Mu Bo. “Have someone come and take Banxia’s Maybach back. I’ll give you an address.”
After giving instructions, he hung up the phone, started the car, and drove through the heavy rain, taking her back to the city to rest at home.
“The roads are bad. Drive slowly,” she said, a little worried.
Along the way, Zhan Jingting called the house. “Mrs. Zhou, prepare a hot bath for Madam. Adjust the water temperature. Madam will need a bath when she gets back. Also, boil some ginger tea.”
Lin Banxia turned her head at the sound, looking at him as he spoke earnestly, listening to his concerned words. She felt a long-lost warmth in her heart.
Her closest relatives had been trying to kill her.
But he, with no blood relation, was so good to her… He had left work in the middle of a heavy downpour to find her, listened to her experience of giving birth, and she could clearly see the heartache in his eyes.
With a heart full of gratitude, she lowered her gaze, feeling warm inside.
Zhan Jingting put away his phone, holding the steering wheel with one hand and unconsciously reaching out to take hers with the other. “Why are your hands so cold?” He let go of her hand and quickly turned up the temperature in the car.
These details, seen by her, moved her deeply.
“Have you seen a doctor about the scar on your stomach? Has it been hurting all these years?” He asked sincerely.
The rain outside was pouring heavily, with low visibility, but his driving skills were excellent, and the car drove steadily.
Banxia felt a slight easing of the pain in her abdomen. “The stitches weren’t done well back then. The flesh healed, but occasionally there’s pain, but it’s bearable.”
He didn’t ask any more questions. Soon, braving the heavy rain, he drove the car into the Yuzhu villa and safely brought her home.
Seeing the Lamborghini drive into the courtyard, Butler Shen and Mrs. Zhou rushed out with umbrellas. The car door opened, and Lin Banxia and Zhan Jingting stepped out.
They walked towards the living room.
“Is the warm water ready?” Zhan Jingting asked along the way. “Are the clothes ready?”
“Everything is ready, Mr. Zhan. The ginger soup is also ready.” Mrs. Zhou replied, seeing that both of them had wet hair and clothes, she couldn’t help but worry.
When Banxia went to take a shower, Mrs. Zhou also brought dry clothes for Zhan Jingting to change into.
When he came out after changing, Mrs. Zhou brought a bowl of ginger soup to him.
Zhan Jingting took it and put it on the coffee table, then picked up his phone and dialed a number—
“Help me find out about the fire at Banxia’s grandparents’ house six years ago. Who died then, were there any former servants who went out, or were they on vacation and escaped the disaster?”
“Yes, Mr. Zhan, I’ll check it out right away.” His subordinate replied.
After hanging up the phone, he thought for a moment and then dialed Mu Bo’s number. He first inquired about the children’s situation, then asked—
“What’s Dr. Dr. Avery’s attitude now? Is he willing to come to Yincheng ? So, book me a plane ticket, I’m flying over to see him today.”
“So urgent? The weather is bad and the safety factor is low.” Mu Bo was worried. The young master’s illness wasn’t something that could be cured in a day or two, was there a sudden turn for the worse?
“Just book it, I’ll go to the airport later. Wait for the rain to stop a bit, you personally send the children back.” After saying that, he hung up the phone.
Mu Bo had no choice but to obey.
Dr. Avery was a skilled physician, but his treatment cycle was long. He had a small reputation internationally, and after Warlord’s investigation, it was clear the doctor was skilled and had cured several difficult cases.
Originally, he planned to wait until he finished his current work before asking Dr. Avery to treat his brother. But thinking about Banxia’s abdominal injury, which was a raw incision without anesthesia, he could only imagine the pain she endured.
Therefore, he decided to ask the doctor to treat her now.
At the Yuzhu Villa, the bathroom was larger than most people’s bedrooms, luxurious and stylish. Banxia soaked in the warm water, feeling her body gradually warm up.
The steam filled the room, making her feel incredibly comfortable.
Recalling the events of the day, she felt like it was a dream. Xia hadn’t expected Warlord to follow her up the mountain when she went to collect herbs.
Even more unexpectedly, as he witnessed the birth of a new life, he thought of her giving birth to two children for him.
He, who was always high and mighty, actually had such feelings… It seemed like his entire mood was off.
Banxia discovered that she had gotten to know a different Warlord today. He actually had flesh and blood.
She didn’t know how long she had been soaking in the warm water, only that her whole body felt hot.
After showering and getting dressed, Zhou, the housekeeper, brought a bowl of ginger soup to her. “Madam, drink it while it’s hot. Warlord specifically instructed us to make it, it’s for dispelling cold.”
“Thank you.” She took the bowl with both hands and glanced out the window. Huh? Where’s the Lamborghini? “Did he leave?”
“Yes.” Zhou relayed the message. “Mr. Mu, the assistant, will bring the children back later. Warlord has gone abroad and won’t be home until the day after tomorrow at the earliest.”
“Abroad?” This puzzled Banxia. Why would he suddenly go abroad?
But she didn’t ask, because Zhou definitely didn’t know his whereabouts. She held the ginger soup and took a sip, lost in thought.
When the rain had subsided a little, a car drove into the yard.
Mu Bo personally brought the children back, holding an umbrella as he walked into the living room.
Banxia stood on the stairs, looking at him. For a moment, she was drawn to his appearance. Mu Bo’s face had the delicate features of an Eastern person, yet also the three-dimensionality of a Western person, making it clear at a glance that he was mixed race.
