Chapter 25: Want me to feed you?
After saying that, he hung up the phone without giving Jian Yao a chance to speak.
Jian Yao stared at the disconnected phone, stunned for two seconds.
She wouldn’t have to go to the company anymore…
That was really…
Great!
Jian Yao calmly put down her phone, drained the water from the cooked noodles, added fresh water and put the soup packet in to continue boiling.
While the water was boiling, she quickly made a fried egg.
Once the water boiled, she added the seasoning packet and scooped out the noodles.
As she lifted the lid, the aroma of the food instantly dispelled any remaining gloom in Jian Yao’s heart.
She took a deep breath and sighed in satisfaction.
Indeed, in this world, only food is not to be missed.
She carried the large soup bowl to the dining room and placed it down. After a moment of thought, she took out her phone, took a picture and sent it to Gu Zhiyan.
Originally, she had been a bit hesitant about going to get the marriage certificate tomorrow.
After Lu Chengze’s threat, she had to go!
In the study of the Gu family’s old mansion.
A man in a black silk pajamas sat at the desk, with a thick stack of property deeds spread out on the desk in front of him.
Assistant Xu, his assistant, flipped through a tablet, comparing the property deeds and floor plans one by one, finally selecting two from the pile.
“Mr. Gu, take a look at these two.”
He placed the selected property deeds and notebook in front of Gu Zhiyan, “These two, one is a new Chinese-style villa, the other is an old courtyard in the capital, both meet your requirements.”
Gu Zhiyan swiveled the mouse and carefully examined the design drawings, Jian Yao’s words about a Jiangnan garden style echoed in his mind.
His gaze swept over the new Chinese-style villa and stopped at the drawing of the courtyard.
He remembered this courtyard, a gift from his grandfather for his coming-of-age ceremony.
An old three-courtyard house, a former official’s mansion from the Qing Dynasty, with an overall style reminiscent of a Suzhou garden.
He tapped the property deed with his long, slender fingers, “This one, send someone to clean it tomorrow.”
Assistant Xu glanced at the computer screen, although he couldn’t understand why his boss was messing around with property deeds in the middle of the night, he still diligently nodded in agreement, then neatly organized the other property deeds and left the room.
The door closed, Gu Zhiyan raised his hand and pressed his brow, picked up the property deed that was placed separately on the desk, and pondered.
He wondered if this would suit Jian Yao’s taste.
His eyes fell on the property deed, but his thoughts had already drifted far away.
He hadn’t planned to get married so soon, but he knew Lu Chengze had returned to the capital.
Even though Lu Chengze wasn’t someone worthy of trust, he had a lot of history with Jian Yao.
There’s a bond between people who have known each other for a long time.
He didn’t want to gamble on whether Jian Yao would regret seeing Lu Chengze.
So he could only solidify their status as soon as possible.
He wondered if Jian Yao would think it was too rushed, if he had been abrupt.
Gu Zhiyan picked up his phone, unlocked it, and opened Jian Yao’s chat window. His finger hovered over the keyboard several times, but he didn’t type a single word.
As he hesitated, a message popped up on his phone, just from Jian Yao.
The first thing that caught his eye was a photo.
Steaming noodles and a golden fried egg, it looked very appetizing.
Then came a short message.
“We’re getting the marriage certificate tomorrow, remember to come pick me up.”
Gu Zhiyan looked at his phone screen, his fingers tracing the message she sent. He pondered for a moment, then replied with a serious “Okay.”
After sending the message, he felt that sending only one word seemed cold. He silently added another sentence.
“Have breakfast and rest. I’ll pick you up at eight tomorrow morning.”
After sending the message, he opened the picture Jian Yao had sent earlier, zoomed in to take a closer look, clicked to save it, then exited the interface. He turned his phone, muttering to himself.
“All these years, your taste hasn’t changed.”
On the other side, Jian Yao bit into the fried egg soaked in broth, looking at the message Gu Zhiyan sent, she curled her lips.
After eating, she took a fresh shower to wash off the smell of snail noodles.
She chose a light yellow dress from her closet, took out her ID card and household register and put them in her bag. Making sure there were no other items missing, she applied her skincare products and went to sleep.
The next morning at seven o’clock, her years of biological clock woke her up on time.
Jian Yao washed up and applied light makeup, then went downstairs with her bag.
She intentionally came down ten minutes early, but Gu Zhiyan’s car was already parked downstairs.
She walked quickly towards him, “Have you been waiting long?”
The man was wearing a black silk shirt, his legs crossed, leaning lazily against the car. The buttons on his collar were undone, revealing his beautiful collarbone.
Some people just need to stand there to effortlessly capture everyone’s attention.
It was rush hour, and Jian Yao saw many residents of the neighborhood looking over at them.
Seeing her arrive, Gu Zhiyan opened the car door for her, inviting Jian Yao to get in.
“No, I just arrived.”
Xu Assistant wasn’t here today. Gu Zhiyan walked around to the driver’s seat, sat down, and calmly fastened his seatbelt. “Did you have breakfast?”
Jian Yao shook her head, “Not yet.”
Gu Zhiyan raised his eyes to look at her, with an “I knew it” expression. He reached out and took out a bag of soup dumplings and soy milk.
“I bought them on the way, try them and see if they’re good.”
Jian Yao took the bag and opened it. The unique aroma of wheat filled the car, making her appetite grow.
She picked up a dumpling with her fingers, her dark, round eyes looked at Gu Zhiyan, “Did you eat?”
Gu Zhiyan held the steering wheel, turning his head to look at her.
Actually, he had eaten, but when he met Jian Yao’s bright eyes, the words he was about to say changed.
“Not yet.”
Jian Yao was stunned.
She thought that since Gu Zhiyan brought her breakfast, he must have already eaten.
Asking him if he had eaten was just an instinct ingrained in Chinese people.
But he really hadn’t eaten.
She held the dumpling in her hand, wanting to give it to Gu Zhiyan, but seeing him holding the steering wheel, she couldn’t reach him. She asked tentatively, “Should I feed you?”
It was too early in the morning to be dead, but feeding her fiancé-to-be a dumpling, she didn’t mind. She was just afraid that Gu Zhiyan was a neat freak and would dislike her.
Gu Zhiyan didn’t say anything, he just turned his head towards her.
The distance between them suddenly narrowed. Jian Yao was completely unprepared for his handsome face, her heart skipped a beat, and she used all her strength to control the trembling of her fingers so as not to embarrass herself.
Gu Zhiyan watched as Jian Yao held her white, soft face with a serious expression, but her ears turned red uncontrollably. A subtle smile appeared in his eyes.
He slightly opened his mouth and bit into the dumpling Jian Yao handed him. The thumb-sized dumpling was exquisitely made, easily swallowed in one bite.
With a light bite, the crab roe broth seeped out, filling his mouth with flavor.
Gu Zhiyan started the car, his tone casual, “It’s delicious.”
Even better than when it was freshly made.
Jian Yao mechanically retracted her hand, put one in her own mouth, her mind filled with the image of Gu Zhiyan slightly opening his mouth and biting the dumpling from her hand.
