Chapter 55: Okay, Feeling Involved Now?
Wu Yue’s mind went blank, as if struck by a muffled bell, buzzing with a dull roar.
His hand, reaching out to support Lu Chengze, trembled. “Brother Lu, don’t scare me!”
In the hospital corridor, Wu Yue peered through the small glass window on the door, catching a glimpse of Lu Chengze lying pale in the bed. His heart finally calmed down.
The hospital’s preliminary diagnosis was gastrointestinal bleeding. He was brought in promptly, so it wasn’t serious and there was no danger to his life.
Lu Chengze had always had stomach problems. Before, with Jian Yao taking care of him, they never had to worry. Even when he had a flare-up, he only needed to take some stomach-soothing and pain-relieving medication.
This was the first time he had vomited blood.
Wu Yue pulled out his phone, his fingers already dialing a number, only to remember that Jian Yao was married.
“Damn it!”
He silently stuffed his phone back in his pocket, sliding down the wall, a sense of desolation washing over him.
He and Jian Yao had known Lu Chengze since they were very young.
The difference was that he and Jian Yao were orphans, while Lu Chengze wasn’t.
The Lu family refused to take him back, and Old Master Lu never visited, but they would send someone over every month with some money, clothes, and snacks.
Compared to the other children in the orphanage, Lu Chengze’s living conditions were much better.
Wu Yue and Jian Yao’s affection was different. He initially followed Lu Chengze because of his clothes and food.
Later, as they spent more time together, Lu Chengze gradually became the most important brother and family member in his heart.
He thought the three of them would never be separated.
He never expected that Lu Chengze and Jian Yao would end up like this.
He didn’t even have the face to call Jian Yao about Lu Chengze’s gastrointestinal bleeding.
But Wu Yue couldn’t help but think.
They had been brothers for over a decade. Even he, a grown man, couldn’t let go. Jian Yao had loved Lu Chengze for so many years, could she really forget him completely?
He didn’t believe it.
Although yesterday’s decision to send Lu Chengze to the police station was resolute, from another perspective, wasn’t it a form of protection for Lu Chengze?
By taking the initiative to pursue the matter, she not only gave the Gu family an explanation but also appeased them.
Compared to appeasing them at the time and facing retaliation from the Gu family later, spending a night in the police station was nothing.
The more Wu Yue thought about it, the more he felt he was right.
Jian Yao must still have feelings for Lu Chengze.
Knowing Lu Chengze’s gastrointestinal bleeding and hospitalization, she wouldn’t know how to react.
Perhaps, this was the perfect opportunity for her and Lu Chengze to reconcile.
Wu Yue pulled out his phone again, found Jian Yao’s WeChat, typed a message, and sent it.
At Gu Zhiyan’s Gu Garden.
Jian Yao preferred to arrange her own room.
She spent the entire afternoon organizing all her belongings.
Standing up, she looked at the familiar layout and let out a sigh of contentment. This arrangement felt more like home.
Through the pear wood window, she could see the sky darkening outside, and the landscape lights in the garden were gradually turning on.
The lights in Gu Zhiyan’s room and study next door were off, seemingly empty.
She took her phone and walked towards the kitchen.
As soon as she got close, she could smell the aroma of food.
Jian Yao looked at the man’s back in the kitchen, wearing an apron and busy cooking. She couldn’t help but secretly take a photo with her phone.
While checking the photos, she realized that she had taken a few photos the last time she came here, intending to post them on her Moments, but she forgot because of the livestreaming incident.
Moreover, she had also taken a picture of Gu Zhiyan’s back while he was cooking last time.
She compared the two, wanting to choose which one looked better, and found that she liked both of them.
However, because the previous picture was taken at a closer distance, you could see his sharp side profile, so it was successfully selected.
Then there was the pan-fried steak and mushroom soup from last time, as well as Gu Zhiyan’s esports room full of glory.
After she chose them, she felt that the three pictures didn’t look good. Just as Gu Zhiyan came out of the kitchen with the food, she quickly put down her phone to receive it.
Gu Zhiyan handed her the garlic chives, which were easier to hold and not hot, and his gaze fell on her fair cheeks. “When did you come out? Why didn’t you call me? You must have been bored waiting, right?”
Jian Yao put the food in her hand on the table. “No, I just finished cleaning up and came out.”
“Why didn’t you call me to help with the cooking?”
Actually, her cooking skills were still passable, and besides, she was already living with Gu Zhiyan, and he was still cooking for her, she felt a little embarrassed.
Gu Zhiyan put down the food in his hand, took out the bowls and chopsticks, and said casually.
“Studies have shown that men’s stratum corneum is 25% thicker than women’s, and their sweat glands and sebaceous glands are also more developed, making them more resistant to the stimulation of oil fumes.”
“The Jian family raised you so white and tender, you’re not here to be a maid.”
Jian Yao blinked.
So, he took over the kitchen cooking just because of this?
How is the world getting more and more magical?
Gu Zhiyan set down the tableware, raised his eyes to see her still in a daze, and tilted his head to call her, “Come over and help me with something.”
Jian Yao walked over in a daze, Gu Zhiyan turned his back to her, “Help me untie the strap on the apron behind me.”
She stretched out her slender white fingers, gently pulled on a black strap, and with a gentle tug, the strap came undone.
Jian Yao dazedly pursed her lips.
She thought she had accidentally tied a dead knot, so she asked her to help untie it.
It was so easy to untie, why did she need her help?
Gu Zhiyan took off the apron and hung it up, then turned around and asked Jian Yao like he was coaxing a child, “Okay, do you feel involved now?”
When Jian Yao realized what he was saying, her face instantly turned completely red.
She’s not a child!
Before dinner, Jian Yao took another picture.
Garlic chives, stir-fried shrimp, sweet and sour spare ribs, and a pot of corn and pork bone soup.
Everything looked delicious, Jian Yao didn’t even add a filter, and she put it together with the three pictures she had chosen earlier to make a four-grid post, editing the caption.
Jian Yao: [Gu’s awards and his own cooking]
As soon as the post was published on her Moments, someone immediately liked and commented.
Xu Si: Good good good, you’re not replying to my messages, you’re running to Moments to show off your love! You’re a friend who loves a man more than a friend!
Jian Ning: You guys are living together?
Li Secretary: Grinning, grinning, grinning.
Jian Ning replied to her own sister first: Yeah, just moved in.
Then she responded to Xu Si’s accusation: “Wrong, I just saw my phone.”
After she sent that message to Xu Si, she didn’t look at her phone, and she didn’t notice that there were messages on WeChat when she was posting on Moments.
After replying to Xu Si, she went back to check her messages.
She was about to click on Xu Si’s profile picture when her phone vibrated “buzz buzz”. A new message popped up.
It was from Wu Yue.
Before she could see what was sent, her phone vibrated again.
This time, a picture was sent.
