Chapter 60: You Need to Attract, Make Her Chase You
The wind chime at the restaurant entrance tinkled, and the moment the man pushed open the glass door, it felt like the entire restaurant brightened by three degrees.
It was dinner time, and many diners turned their heads upon hearing the sound, their gazes then fixated on him.
Jian Yao had already noticed several young girls blushing red to their ears.
Gu Zhiyan politely smiled at those around him, then walked towards Jian Yao and Xu Si, taking a familiar seat next to Jian Yao and introducing himself.
“Hello, I’m Gu Zhiyan, Jian Yao’s husband.”
Xu Si, who had been acting unseriously just now, now displayed the composure of a businessman during a negotiation, nodding elegantly.
“Hello, Xu Si, Jian Yao’s good friend.”
After a brief introduction, the waiter came over to ask if everyone was present and if they needed to order.
Gu Zhiyan nodded and took two menus.
He handed one to Jian Yao first, then the second to Xu Si.
“You two are familiar with this place, I’ll eat whatever you guys choose.”
Xu Si was pleased with Gu Zhiyan’s understanding and lack of fussiness.
In the past, Lu Chengze had always looked down upon her and Jian Yao’s favorite hotpot restaurants, barbecue places, and roadside eateries.
Let alone going to eat together, he would act as if the name of the place was dirtying his ears.
Those who knew him knew he was Lu’s illegitimate son, raised in an orphanage.
Those who didn’t, thought he was a prince, raised in the palace!
She had intentionally asked Jian Yao not to change restaurants, just to see if Gu Zhiyan would be like Lu Chengze and dislike Jian Yao’s lifestyle.
Fortunately, so far, it seemed pretty good.
It was a weekend, so the restaurant was packed, and their table’s dishes were slow to arrive.
Gu Zhiyan went to get some water. Jian Yao glanced at the busy waiter and sighed, “I’ll go and hurry them along.”
Xu Si nodded.
Gu Zhiyan came back to see Jian Yao was gone, and he proactively helped her heat up the tableware, then poured water for Xu Si’s tableware.
Xu Si turned off her phone and looked at Gu Zhiyan, “Let’s get straight to the point, why do you want to see me so much? What do you want to ask?”
Gu Zhiyan’s gaze passed over the crowd and landed on Jian Yao who was communicating with the front desk, speaking frankly, “What do you think, what are my chances of winning her over?”
“You’re really plotting against her!”
Xu Si raised an eyebrow.
On the day of their engagement, her family had noticed that Gu Zhiyan’s gaze towards their Yao Yao was off. But he was really good at keeping his composure.
He had even gotten the marriage certificate, and Jian Yao was still foolishly thinking that this big bad wolf liked men.
Gu Zhiyan poured Jian Yao a cup of hot water and let it cool, his tone casual, “That’s not plotting.”
“This is called: A beautiful woman, a gentleman’s desire.”
Xu Si tightened her grip on her cup, her eyes fixed on Gu Zhiyan, “If you actively pursue her, your chances are almost zero.”
Jian Yao, she might seem naive, but she’s actually very guarded against men, especially after what happened with Lu Chengze.
If Gu Zhiyan aggressively pursued her at this time, it would only make her feel he had ulterior motives, and maybe even the little bit of affection and trust she had now would disappear.
She glanced at Jian Yao, who was already walking towards them, and quickly said, “You can’t just keep chasing after her, you need to attract, attract, you understand? Make her chase you.”
A hint of darkness flashed in Gu Zhiyan’s eyes as he carefully pondered the word “attract” twice, seemingly understanding.
Jian Yao walked past the crowd, a soft smile on her face, “What were you two chatting about?”
Xu Si pretended to play with her phone, “Complaining about how slow the food is today.”
Jian Yao softly explained, “The front desk said they’re a bit busy today, but it’ll be up soon.”
Xu Si was a chatterbox and a social butterfly, never letting the conversation die.
Gu Zhiyan was very intelligent and knowledgeable, able to respond to any topic.
Jian Yao was familiar with both of them, so she felt no pressure at all. The dinner was more relaxed and enjoyable than she had expected.
At least, the fear Jian Yao had of Xu Si going off on tangents didn’t come true.
Of course, this was only a perfect dinner in Jian Yao’s eyes.
In Xu Si’s eyes, it was completely different.
Gu Zhiyan grilled meat for Jian Yao the whole time, picking up food for her, wrapping barbecue, handing her drinks, and handing her tissues.
By the end of the meal, her teeth were almost sore.
She felt like a walking lightbulb!
After dinner, while Gu Zhiyan went to get the car.
Xu Si folded her arms, her whole demeanor exuding a cool and aloof aura, “This is really good.”
“Don’t play the ‘once bitten, twice shy’ game, go for it when you have the chance.”
Jian Yao also thought Gu Zhiyan was pretty good, a very good partner, gentle, polite, and with a sense of proportion.
But she couldn’t stand Xu Si’s pretentious air.
She gave a meaningful “hmm,” “Your ex-boyfriends haven’t lasted more than three months with you, are you sure you’re a good judge of character?”
Xu Si loved to play, was a face-chaser, and had a short honeymoon phase.
Jian Yao couldn’t even count how many boyfriends she’d had.
This girl was willing to spend money, and she had a sweet mouth, but she didn’t fall in love easily, and she didn’t know how many young hearts she had hurt.
Xu Si laughed carelessly, pushing the sunglasses off her head.
The black designer sunglasses covered most of her face, revealing her delicate chin and smooth jawline.
“Don’t worry about it, I have my own rhythm.”
Her car was nearby, and after taking out the things Jian Yao bought, Gu Zhiyan came over.
Xu Si leaned out of the car and shouted to him, “I’m leaving her to you!”
This sentence had a double meaning.
Through the car window, Gu Zhiyan nodded, “Be careful on the road.”
Gu Zhiyan put the things in the trunk before getting in the car with Jian Yao.
Jian Yao fastened her seatbelt and turned to ask him, “Aren’t you going to work this afternoon?”
It felt like Gu Zhiyan was different from other company CEOs, like he had a lot of time.
She remembered that Yao Guang was doing pretty well, one of the top three gaming companies in China, it wasn’t like they were struggling to stay afloat, right?
How could the boss be so slack?
Gu Zhiyan raised his eyebrows and looked at her, a chuckle escaping his throat, “Mrs. Gu, did you forget we just got married? The company has a honeymoon leave?”
Jian Yao realized belatedly.
Yes, she only remembered getting the marriage certificate, she forgot about the honeymoon leave.
Looking at it this way, Gu Zhiyan was already very dedicated to his work by going to the company from time to time during his honeymoon leave.
Jian Yao awkwardly touched her nose, realizing that this didn’t seem to be the way home.
“Where are we going?”
Did he have other arrangements for the afternoon?
Gu Zhiyan turned the steering wheel, his voice low, “Back to the old house, Grandma has been looking forward to it for days, if we don’t go back, she’ll call me non-stop.”
Jian Yao let out a soft “oh,” feeling a little nervous as she tapped her fingers. “So suddenly?”
Gu Zhiyan’s gaze fell on Jian Yao, a smile in his obsidian eyes, seeing through her thoughts, “We’ve already met a few times, are you still nervous?”
“Or, maybe we can go another day?”
He pretended to turn around at the front.
