After Breaking Off the Engagement I Married a Rugged Mountain Man and Was Spoiled Like a Treasure in Three Days Chapter 34

Chapter 34

“Brother Qin, you said…”

Taohua originally wanted to ask her husband, but when she turned around, Qin Feng was nowhere to be seen.

She quickly scanned the area and saw Qin Feng tying a rope around his body, the other end of the rope secured to a large tree.

“Brother Qin!” Taohua immediately ran over. “Are you going into the water to rescue someone?”

“Yes.”

“But the water is very dangerous right now!”

“I know.”

“……” Taohua paused for a moment. “Okay. Then you must be careful, Brother Qin. I’ll stay here and watch the rope. If you manage to pull the scribe out, just call out, and we’ll help pull you back.”

Taohua had originally wanted to say that it was too dangerous to go down, but she knew that her Brother Qin would not hesitate, just like how he had jumped into the river to save her in the past! Though she didn’t have the courage or skill to rescue someone, she would support her man!

Qin Feng quickly waded into the center of the river, and the other villagers voluntarily grabbed the rope.

The whirlpool in the middle of the river was intense, but Qin Feng didn’t hesitate for a second. With a powerful dive, he plunged into the water…

With the villagers’ combined effort, Qin Feng was finally able to rescue Scribe Feng from the water.

Once on the shore, Scribe Feng vomited up several liters of water before regaining some strength.

When he woke up, he couldn’t believe it. “Am I still alive? Am I really alive?”

The village chief and others immediately reassured him, “Sir, you’re alive, and you’re perfectly fine, nothing happened. It was our village’s Qin Feng who risked his life to jump into the whirlpool to save you.”

“And him? Has he come up yet?”

“Don’t worry, sir. He’s young and strong, just fine. He’s already out and is making a fire. His wife brought a stove, and the fire’s already going. You’re soaked, you should go warm up by it.”

“Good,” Scribe Feng said weakly. But then, thinking of something, he suddenly sat up. “His wife is the woman who said she had a nightmare, right? Quick, help me up, I need to see her.”

By the fire, Taohua was helping Qin Feng gather his clothes.

She handed him the jacket he had taken off earlier. “Brother Qin, you should go change over in the woods. Then take off your wet clothes, I’ll help dry them by the fire.”

Qin Feng nodded and was about to walk towards the woods, but when he caught sight of Taohua’s hand, he suddenly turned around.

Taohua was surprised. “What’s wrong, Brother Qin?”

Qin Feng furrowed his brows and grabbed Taohua’s hand firmly.

Seeing that her palm was bright red, his thick black brows knitted tighter. “Does it hurt? With so many people pulling on the rope, why didn’t you stay aside?”

Taohua was a bit incredulous. “You were down there! How could I just stand by and watch? I couldn’t wait to pull you back up.”

As she spoke, Taohua caught sight of the village chief and the others coming over. Feeling embarrassed to be holding hands with a man in front of everyone, she quickly pulled her hand out of Qin Feng’s large grasp.

“Go ahead, Brother Qin, you’ll catch a cold if you wear those wet clothes. Others are coming to warm themselves by the fire. Xiaolan and I will go over there to get out of the way.”

However, Taohua hadn’t walked far when the village chief called out to her.

“Taohua, the scribe has something to ask you.”

Taohua secretly glanced at Scribe Feng, lowered her head, and said, “I’m not leaving yet. I’m waiting for Brother Qin. I think I’ll wait until Scribe Feng has changed out of his wet clothes before I go and speak with him, so he doesn’t catch a cold.”

Hearing this, Scribe Feng immediately felt embarrassed. “Ah, I misunderstood this young lady. She is a kind-hearted person. If I had listened to her earlier, things might have been better. Fortunately, no one else got caught in the whirlpool. It’s also thanks to her, if she hadn’t come forward, everyone would’ve probably gone into the water by now.”

“Yes, it’s good we didn’t go further ahead,” someone quietly agreed.

“Actually, we owe this to Qin Feng. Taohua came to save him, and it’s by chance that she saved us too.”

“That’s right. She really is lucky for him. Do you remember when they went to the town to sell pelts?”

Someone from the neighboring village, who didn’t know the story, asked, “What’s the strange thing? Tell us about it.”

“Well, nothing could be stranger than today’s events. Here’s the story…”

Soon, Scribe Feng had changed into dry clothes, and both Taohua and Qin Feng were called over to him.

Grateful for being saved by the couple, Scribe Feng felt a deep sense of appreciation.

He was a down-to-earth man, and even though he was an official, he had no qualms about showing respect to ordinary folks.

He gave a deep bow to Qin Feng and Taohua, his tone sincere.

“Thanks to both of you for your timely rescue. I will repay you in the future. If you ever find yourselves in any trouble, don’t hesitate to come to the county office and look for me.”

However, his urgency in wanting to see Taohua wasn’t just to express gratitude.

“Mr. Qin, I have one more thing to ask you. Has the dream you had ended here, or is there something else, some other danger?”

“No,” Taohua shook her head decisively, “That’s all I dreamt about.”

Scribe Feng nodded. “That’s good. What happened earlier was truly frightening. If you have another dream in the future, don’t be careless.”
