Chapter 49
Xie Tong came over in the evening. As soon as she entered, she noticed that the security had been tightened.
The Zhang Yueting incident had already made it to the internet. Her agent posted a Weibo post and directly @ed Shi’s official Weibo account for help.
“She was kidnapped, but they didn’t ask for money or call the police. Why did they go to Shi’s? Are they really trying to get money from Shi’s?”
“He has money, but he’s not a sucker.”
Xie Tong couldn’t help but complain, taking out her books from her backpack.
Shen Chutang flipped through the books. Xie Tong had already taken notes for her, and there were a few little cartoon heads drawn in the blank spaces.
“Oh, you don’t know how bored I was in class alone. If I hadn’t taken notes for you, I wouldn’t have listened.”
“You really worked hard.” Shen Chutang teased her. “I should be able to go back to school in a few days.”
Xie Tong quickly said, “In a few days? I don’t think so. At this point, how could Shi Chengyu let you go back to school?”
“He probably won’t.” Shen Chutang smiled faintly.
Just after Zhang Yueting’s incident, Shi Chengyu came to protect her. Wasn’t that blatantly telling everyone that this was the person he wanted to protect? Shi Chengyu wouldn’t do something so stupid. Besides, she usually drove the Shen family’s car to school, and Shi Chengyu did the same when he sent her. He would send her and then go back to Lanjiangting to change cars to go to the company.
“Okay then, I’ll wait for you.” Xie Tong giggled. She didn’t understand those things, but she knew that Shi Chengyu couldn’t refuse anything Shen Chutang said.
When Shen Chutang woke up the next day, the police had already released a police notice online. Zhang Yueting had been rescued, she was fine, just a little scared.
Shi’s also issued a statement for the first time in this incident, apologizing for Ms. Zhang Yueting’s kidnapping due to being mistaken for Shi Chengyu’s girlfriend, and giving her a compensation of 50 million yuan out of humanitarianism.
Shen Chutang didn’t know what happened after that. She stayed at home for two more days and then went back to school.
She had just recovered from a serious illness, and it was getting cold. Shen Chutang became much quieter, and she looked gentle and graceful.
Shen Sujing came back every three days, afraid that Shen Chutang would have lingering effects from the illness. He took her to the hospital for checkups several times. Once, he even came with Ji Man, and Ji Man even gave her a gift.
As the end of the year approached, Shi Chengyu started to get busy. He had a financial interview to attend.
Shen Chutang sat in the audience seats behind, wearing a hat and a mask. She looked at Shi Chengyu on stage, shining brightly, and the corners of her mouth under the mask curled up.
The host first asked some routine business questions, and Shi Chengyu answered them one by one. He also answered some tricky questions cleverly.
As the interview came to an end, the host noticed that Shi Chengyu seemed to be in a particularly good mood today, so he boldly asked, “So, Mr. Shi, besides the interview, can I ask you two questions outside the topic?”
“Yes.”
The host was overjoyed. “Mr. Shi, what was your initial motivation for starting your business?”
Shi Chengyu’s lips curled up, revealing his first smile during the interview. “For someone.”
The host, as if he had seen explosive news, was stunned. He calmed himself down and asked, “Is that so? As we all know, everyone is very interested in Mr. Shi’s relationship status. So, Mr. Shi, are you currently single?”
Shi Chengyu smiled faintly. “I will be single for the next two years.”
“Why two years?” the host pressed.
“You just said it was only two questions.” Shi Chengyu smiled distantly, his eyes looking towards the audience, past the camera, and seeing Shen Chutang, whose eyes were smiling.
The host quickly apologized and ended the interview.
