Chapter 68: Do We Know Each Other?

“My sister really can’t help with that, but our eggs at home are naturally like this, with no fishy taste and delicious,” Wang Jingyu said, taking a bite of the egg.

“Jingyu, are we like brothers?”

“What do you want?”

“We all want your watermelon and eggs,” the person next to him said, gazing at Wang Jingyu with determination, as if they wouldn’t leave without his agreement.

Wang Jingyu sighed and said, “I don’t have that many eggs at home. I had about 100, but I gave away 50 today. I have about 30 left, and only 20 are meant for my nephew.”

“Oh? No more?”

“No, we have only three hens laying eggs at home. The others are still young, and it’ll take another three or four months before they start laying. When we have more eggs, I can sell them to you. But every time I go back, I can have my sister cook some and bring them here for us to enjoy together.”

“That sounds good. When you have more eggs at home, be sure to let us know. We don’t mind paying a bit more as long as they have this flavor. What about the watermelon? Can we buy some?” the person nearby inquired.

“The watermelons have all been sold.”

“Not a single one left?”

“That’s right, there are only a few for our own consumption. But if it’s a small quantity, I can give you some, with the condition that no one takes more than two,” Wang Jingyu considered and replied.

Hearing Wang Jingyu’s words, everyone happily nodded, “As long as we can buy, the quantity is not a problem. Next time you have a break, we’ll go with you to your home. By the way, how much is your watermelon per kilogram?”

“We’ve sold it twice. The first time it was 50 wen per kilogram, and today we sold it for 100 wen per kilogram. When we send it to the capital, it goes for 500 wen per kilogram,” Wang Jingyu casually remarked.

“Cough, cough, 100 wen per kilogram for watermelon? Seems a bit expensive, doesn’t it?”

But it’s undeniably delicious, and it’s worth the price.

“I don’t care; I’m buying two to bring home to treat my grandpa.”

“Count me in too.”

Wang Jingyu looked at them in disbelief, saying it’s expensive, but secretly wanting to buy some as well. What’s wrong with them?

“What’s with all of you?”

“It’s because your watermelon is so delicious, Jingyu. I now believe you when you say you have money.”

“I believe it too. One watermelon must cost at least a tael of silver.”

“Who says it isn’t? And we thought he didn’t have money? We were trying to save him money? How foolish of us!” everyone lamented, making Wang Jingyu burst into laughter.

Wang Jingyu chuckled, “Alright, you guys, what’s with all this?”

“Jingyu, we made a deal. We’re good friends, and good things are meant to be shared together. Isn’t that right? Be honest, do you have any other good stuff at home?” the person beside him asked Wang Jingyu.

“We have strawberries, dragon fruit, cantaloupe, apples, peaches, and other fruits that my sister grows. Our vegetables are also quite tasty. When we take them to market, they sell at higher prices than others, and there’s a scramble to buy them. We even have regular customers,” Wang Jingyu explained after some thought.

The group exchanged glances, and then they all pounced on Wang Jingyu, pinning him down. “So, you, Wang Jingyu, have such good stuff, and you didn’t even tell us? No way, next time you have a break, no matter what, we’re going with you to your home. You can’t refuse; we won’t allow you to.”

“Get off me!” Wang Jingyu was having trouble catching his breath under their weight.

“Do you agree to let us go to your place? In the past, you never let us, but now, will you let us?”

“Before, my house wasn’t built yet, and even if you went, there was nowhere to hang out. But now my house is ready, there’s a place for you, and you can even stay at my place,” Wang Jingyu said, catching his breath.

“That sounds about right.”

Meanwhile, on the other side, Wang Jinhe and Su Yu strolled through the street leisurely with Xiao Bao in Su Yu’s arms, who was looking around curiously.

“There’s not much to see here. Wait until the Mid-Autumn Festival; I’ll take you both to the county town and visit our store. We’ll need your input at that time,” Su Yu said.

Wang Jinhe nodded, “Sure.”

However, Xiao Bao’s attention wasn’t on the store, “Daddy, is the county town fun?”

“At the Mid-Autumn Festival, there are lanterns, riddles to guess, and many fun little things. But it’s not as lively as the capital. When Daddy takes you and Mommy to see Grandpa in the capital, you can have fun there,” Su Yu said after some thought.

Xiao Bao nodded repeatedly, then tilted his head, as if he had thought of something, and looked at Su Yu, “Daddy, can we invite Grandpa to our home to play?”

” Xiao Bao, do you want Grandpa to come?” Su Yu was somewhat surprised that Xiao Bao would say something like that.

Xiao Bao nodded, “Daddy said Grandpa is good to Daddy, so I want to be good to him too. Let’s have Grandpa come here, and we can play together. I’ll introduce him to our big flowers; they’re really clever.”

Su Yu had noticed that the chickens and sheep at home were indeed very clever.

Sometimes, when they asked Big Flower for eggs, she would turn her rear end toward them, even adopting a somewhat disdainful look. Just thinking about the way Big Flower acted made Su Yu somewhat amused and exasperated.

While Big Baa Baa and Little Baa Baa had good personalities, if you really annoyed them, they’d butt you with their heads.

Little Baa Baa was probably the least intelligent of the bunch; she could stumble while walking.

As for candies and the others, Su Yu refrained from making any comments.

“They are very clever, but aren’t our little candies and the others a bit too lively?” Su Yu said, looking somewhat distressed.

Xiao Bao shook his head, “No, candies and the others are well-behaved.”

Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but find Su Yu’s distressed look somewhat amusing.

Ever since Xiao Bao had slept with Su Yu once, he insisted on sleeping with him every day. The four of them would scratch at the door early in the morning. Sometimes, Su Yu would stay up late dealing with household matters, and he hadn’t even fully woken up when these little ones would wake him up with their commotion.

Su Yu nodded and admitted that they were well-behaved. “Yes, our little ones are very well-behaved, but can you please tell them not to scratch the door so early in the morning? Sometimes, Daddy goes to sleep very late, and when they do this, Daddy can’t sleep well, and he becomes very cranky.”

Looking at Su Yu’s reluctantly stern tone, Xiao Bao said, “Alright, I’ll go tell Candies and the others.”

Xiao Bao wasn’t about to tell Su Yu that he had asked Candies and the others to scratch at the door early in the morning.

Seeing Xiao Bao’s sly expression, Su Yu’s mouth twitched. Well, he knew why those four dogs had to scratch at the door early in the morning.

He reached out and pinched Xiao Bao’s butt as a playful punishment.

Wang Jinhe found the conversation between the father and son quite amusing.

The family of three strolled around, shopping for things they liked. When they had finished their shopping and were preparing to head back, an abrupt voice sounded from behind.

“Xiaohe.”

Hearing this somewhat unfamiliar voice, Wang Jinhe turned and saw the scholar-like man behind them. “Who are you? Do we know each other?”
