Chapter 07: Unlike His
She was his mother, and she had already owed him a lot over the years.
Fortunately, he was so well-behaved and likable, his existence genuinely made her happy!
She would definitely not treat him the way Hu Guifen treated her.
Hu Yao scooped up a clean dipper of water from the water tank for him to wash his hands, hung up his clothes, and then went to stew the wild chicken, taking the opportunity to sweep the floor.
Jiang Han’s house was spacious, but there were very few things, the roof beams and walls were very old, and even had some cracks.
But even this kind of house was already very good, at least it was a brick house.
Besides the room she woke up in, there were three other rooms, one for storing miscellaneous items, one for Jiang Xiaochao, and the last one was slightly dusty and unoccupied, but it also had a simple wooden bed frame.
Hu Yao tidied up briefly, feeling a little dizzy. She didn’t force herself to continue working, but sat on the stool in the main room to rest for a while.
“Yaoyao, I caught a little bird!” Jiang Xiaochao ran towards her happily, his two little hands clasped together, holding a little sparrow smaller than his hand.
He held it up to Hu Yao as if it were a treasure.
He often went out with Hu Yao to catch little birds to play with.
“Where did you catch it?” Hu Yao cooperated by lowering her head, looking at the wilted little sparrow in his hand, and laughing with him.
“It fell down by itself, stupid bird.” Jiang Xiaochao said in a childish voice.
He also asked Hu Yao to stew the little bird with the chicken and eat it.
“It’s so small, how could it be enough to eat?” Hu Yao laughed as she looked at the sparrow, which was even smaller than his hand, with its claws held by him.
“I’m small too.” Jiang Xiaochao said seriously: “I eat the little bird, Mom eats the chicken.”
He told Hu Yao that all the small things belonged to him.
It’s unclear if he understood his words, but the sparrow in his hand became even more wilted, directly collapsing and motionless, as if it had resigned itself to fate.
It was still alive, but it was like dead, motionless, no matter how Jiang Xiaochao’s white, chubby fingers poked it, it wouldn’t move.
Jiang Xiaochao relaxed his vigilance, and then it seized the opportunity to fly away, before Hu Yao could even think about whether to really cook it for Jiang Xiaochao.
“Bad bird!!” Jiang Xiaochao immediately changed his name for it, pouting and watching the small black shadow fly away.
Hu Yao laughed and comforted him, serving him a full bowl of chicken soup for lunch, and all the chicken legs went to him.
The chicken legs, which were not small to begin with, looked incredibly huge in Jiang Xiaochao’s small hands. He took a bite, and then raised it to Hu Yao to bite.
The series of actions were habitual and natural, clearly he had done this many times before.
Hu Yao discovered that if she didn’t eat it, he would be unhappy, so she smiled and took a bite next to the small tooth marks he had made.
She found that he really liked to call her Yaoyao, with a childish voice, and his tone was always full of joy when he called her.
It seemed that for so many years, besides her father, no one had ever called her so affectionately, and this address was full of obvious liking.
So when Jiang Xiaochao called her that, she didn’t correct him.
Actually, Hu Yao had forgotten that it was she who asked Jiang Xiaochao to call her Yaoyao.
After Jiang Xiaochao learned to speak and call her Mama, she taught him to call her Yaoyao. Later, in front of Hu Yao, he mostly called her Yaoyao.
Because many times when he called Hu Yao Mama, Hu Yao wouldn’t pay attention to him.
There was still a lot of chicken soup left in the pot, Hu Yao kept a bowl for Lin Zhaodi to drink, but with the Li family like that, she obviously couldn’t just hand it to her.
So when Lin Zhaodi came over for dinner, she served it to her.
Hu Yao had lived in the Hu family for so many years, and her current situation was no different from Lin Zhaodi’s, she understood some things too well.
The soup in the bowl was warm, and it was full of meat. Lin Zhaodi couldn’t remember how long it had been since she last ate meat.
Although now that every household had land to farm, their conditions were better than in the past, they couldn’t eat meat often, let alone her, who was so unwelcome in the Li family.
Hu Yao’s eyes were gentle and sincere, with a smile, and Lin Zhaodi’s eyes became a little warm.
She had received so little kindness all her life, and it could be said that she had been so kind to Hu Yao over the years, wasn’t it because she had a childlike mind, and wouldn’t look at her like others?
Knowing that her head was better, and hearing those gossiping words about her, Lin Zhaodi was also afraid that Hu Yao would look down on her like others, and wouldn’t let her get close to Xiaochao anymore.
She had always loved children, but her belly had never moved. Later, she heard that being around children would bring good luck, and she often liked to be close to the village children, but some people were afraid that she would bring bad luck to their children, so how could they be willing to let their children be close to her.
Only Jiang Xiaochao, although he was sometimes mischievous, was still a very well-behaved and warm-hearted child. He knew she wanted a child, and often took the initiative to touch her belly, blessing her that she would have a baby soon.
“Sister Zhaodi, eat quickly, it will be cold in a while.” Hu Yao saw her stunned, gently shook her arm, and pulled her to sit at the table.
She and Jiang Xiaochao had already eaten dinner, they were just waiting for Lin Zhaodi to come over, and she had been keeping the chicken soup warm with the leftover charcoal from cooking.
Lin Zhaodi was embarrassed to eat, but she had been taking care of Hu Yao and Jiang Xiaochao all this time, what was a bowl of chicken soup? Hu Yao half-persuaded and half-forced her to finish it.
After she finished eating, she didn’t pretend to be angry anymore.
Lin Zhaodi, how could she not know her good intentions, looking at Hu Yao’s smiling face, her long-suppressed mood loosened a bit.
She washed the dishes, changed Hu Yao’s medicine, and talked to her for a while, until the Li family’s nagging voice came from next door, Lin Zhaodi left.
Hu Yao looked at her thin back, feeling a little heartache.
“Mama, I’m done taking a bath!” Jiang Xiaochao, who was washed clean and fragrant, jumped over.
He saw Hu Yao lost in thought, and didn’t get a response, so he changed his address and called her Yaoyao.
Sure enough, as soon as he called out, Hu Yao came back to her senses and responded to him. She even pulled his little hand and gently wiped his hair.
Today, he chased chickens all over the yard, and he also fell and rolled on the ground several times. He wasn’t clean anywhere. He very consciously washed his head too.
Jiang Xiaochao had his own room, but whenever Jiang Han wasn’t home, he liked to sleep next to Hu Yao. Before going to bed, he would also talk to Hu Yao for a long time, and only fall asleep when he was tired.
Hu Yao smelled fragrant and soft, and whenever Jiang Xiaochao slept with her, he would make sure he was clean too.
If he slept with Jiang Han, it was very casual. Sometimes Jiang Han would take him to the mountains to hunt, and the two of them would just sleep on a pile of grass.
In Jiang Xiaochao’s heart, Hu Yao was different. Even though Hu Yao often played in the mud with him, getting herself dirty too, she was still cleaner than his dad!
