Chapter 3: He Tingzhou
Perhaps due to jet lag, Shuangxu lay in her familiar and comfortable bed, unable to sleep.
Unable to sleep, she simply took out her gaming console and old game cartridges to play. It was an old game from years ago, and she was familiar with it after playing a few rounds.
Fearing that she would disturb Shen Yu, she didn’t turn on the sound.
It wasn’t until she heard the car downstairs and saw the light coming in through the crack in the curtains that she realized it was already dawn.
She walked to the window and pulled open the curtains, watching Shen Yu’s car drive out of the courtyard.
She turned off the game and prepared to go back to sleep, but just as she closed her eyes, her phone dinged with a WeChat message.
Brother: [Come downstairs and have some breakfast before you go back to sleep]
When Shuangxu went downstairs, Fu Yun and Shen Changyuan were talking in the living room. They stopped talking when they saw her come down.
“Why don’t you sleep a little longer?” Fu Yun said. “You’re awake just in time. Look how much your godfather loves you, he sent someone out early this morning to queue up at Xu’s for breakfast. Shrimp dumplings, custard buns, and shredded chicken, all your favorites.”
Shuangxu looked at Shen Changyuan who was drinking tea opposite her.
He wouldn’t do something like that. Shen Yu would.
But Shuangxu pretended not to know, and said with a smile: “Thank you, godfather.”
After breakfast, she didn’t go back to her room to sleep, but left under the pretext of going to the hospital to see Shu Yang.
When she arrived at the hospital, Shu Yang was on the phone.
She didn’t know what was said on the other end, but her face turned green, and after hanging up the phone, she raised her hand as if to throw it away.
Shuangxu reminded her: “Ten thousand yuan.”
Shu Yang gritted her teeth and put it back.
“What happened to make you so angry?”
Shu Yang was a big-hearted person, so something that could make her furious must be serious.
Shuangxu set up the small table, she brought some nutritional meals, as well as vitamin-supplemented vegetable juice.
It contained Shu Yang’s most hated carrot, but she was so angry that she didn’t bother to taste it, and gulped down half a cup.
“That deadbeat Chen Peiran, he took our technical data and ran to join forces with Chenxing, who has been suppressing Feixue all along, and now he’s even connected with Yundun Group.”
“Yundun has been paying attention to our liquid hydrogen drone research since the beginning of the year, and the cooperation was almost a sure thing. He pulled this stunt on me. No wonder I haven’t heard back from Yundun for the past few days.”
Shuangxu had met Chen Peiran before, and remembered him as a handsome and charming man, otherwise he wouldn’t have won over Shu Yang.
She never expected him to be such a treacherous and opportunistic scumbag.
She frowned and comforted her: “Don’t worry, the cooperation isn’t so easy for him to snatch away. Contact Yundun again and talk to them.”
Shu Yang threw back the covers: “No, I have to go to Yundun myself.”
Shuangxu quickly pressed her down.
“You’re in this state, where are you going? You’re going to have chemotherapy tomorrow, don’t run around.”
“Shuangxu, you don’t understand, if Yundun’s contract is snatched away by Chenxing, Feixue will really be hard to turn around!”
Shu Yang didn’t have much regret about losing her ability to bear children, but stealing her research results was like stealing her own child!
The liquid hydrogen drone was Feixue’s core project, which had been poured into almost all their resources over the past two years, it was like their lifeline.
“Several of the company’s veterans were taken away by Chen Peiran, and now there’s no one to take over. Our technical genius, the town’s treasure, is also a social recluse, so I’m the only one who can do this.”
And she was also seriously ill.
No wonder they called Chen Peiran a scumbag. A villain who takes advantage of people’s weaknesses.
Shuangxu sighed: “Stay in the hospital and rest. I’ll go in your place.”
The assistant Shu Yang had temporarily arranged for Shuangxu was named Liao, a young girl who carried a pile of project materials to the desk.
“The materials are not complete, some of them were taken away by Mr. Chen, if you need anything, I’ll find it for you.”
Shuangxu was from the same field as Shu Yang, so she didn’t have any trouble getting started. She quickly familiarized herself with Shu Yang’s project progress, and then took Liao to Yundun.
On the way, she did some last-minute cramming, using her phone to search for Yundun Group.
The information she could find was very limited, apart from the cold and austere group website, there were only a few sentences mentioned in some financial or military channels.
Liao muttered beside her:
“Yundun has many military secret projects, I heard that if you sneak over the wall in the middle of the night and get caught, you’ll be sentenced.”
“They have a huge aircraft production base in the western suburbs, the whole runway is filled with fighter jets, it’s super spectacular!”
“There’s nothing about their CEO He online, it seems like they have a military background, anyway, they’re very mysterious.”
Military background? Surname He?
As they were talking, the car had already arrived.
The headquarters of Yundun Group was majestic and solemn, with more guards than any other building around, the entrance was heavily guarded, with guards every five steps and every ten steps.
Shuangxu took Liao to the front desk: “Hello, we’re from Feixue Innovation Technology, we’re here to see Mr. He.”
“Do you have an appointment?”
Shuangxu politely said: “Can you ask him if he’s available? Just fifteen minutes.”
“Sorry, Mr. He’s fully booked today.”
“Then is he available tomorrow or the day after tomorrow?”
“Sorry, you can call the secretary’s office to make an appointment.”
The woman in the blue suit spoke softly and gently, her rehearsed lines were one after another, she was very skilled at getting rid of people.
“See, Mr. He won’t see us at all. Mr. Shu tried to make an appointment with him several times but couldn’t, they must have already signed with Chenxing. You know how cheap Chenxing is, they’re practically begging to get this contract from Yundun Group.” Liao slumped her shoulders in disappointment, “Should we just go back…”
As she finished speaking, someone walked out of the elevator door.
What a coincidence, it was Chen Peiran.
“What are you doing here?” Chen Peiran was surprised to see Shuangxu, then he saw Liao and gave a “I understand” look.
“Your senior sister called you back from abroad? I say you’re really stupid, running all the way back from abroad to rely on her, she’s barely able to take care of herself now.”
Xiao Liao looked like he had stepped in dog shit, his face full of displeasure. He was still angry that she dared to mention Shu Yang.
“Mr. Chen, Ms. Shu is still in the hospital. You two have been together for so many years, can you have a little conscience?”
“Am I not conscientious enough towards her? I wasted a few years on her, not making her pay for my youth is already good enough. If it wasn’t for me, with her science-minded brain, would Feixue be where it is today?”
The man easily placed himself on the moral high ground: “Maybe her illness is from being in the lab all day, constantly exposed to all those things. You should have listened to me and had a child earlier, you wouldn’t be worrying about not being able to have children later.”
Xiao Liao’s face turned red with anger: “That’s too much!”
To be honest, at this moment, Shuangxu wanted to throw the bag containing her computer at Chen Peiran’s smug face.
But she remembered why she was here. Wasting her breath on him was useless.
She grabbed Xiao Liao’s wrist and pulled him back: “There’s no point in talking about conscience with someone who has none.”
Chen Peiran and Shu Yang returned to China together to start a business. In just three years, they had established themselves, calling themselves young talents and social elites. They didn’t take these two little girls seriously at all.
“You wouldn’t be here to talk about the hydrogen-powered drone business, would you?” Chen Peiran’s tone was full of disdain, and he flaunted the A4 document in his hand: “I’ll tell you the truth, I’ve already got the Yun Dun contract, don’t waste your time.”
Shuangxu reached out: “Let me see.”
“This is important, how could I let you see it?” Chen Peiran stuffed the document into his briefcase.
Shuangxu already had a rough idea.
She turned to the receptionist: “Please tell your Mr. He that Song Shuangxu is here to see him.”
Xiao Liao was a little confused: “You know Mr. He?”
Good news, she does.
Bad news, they’re not close.
But in front of Chen Peiran, Shuangxu didn’t let herself slip up.
No matter how unfamiliar they were, it was always better than a stranger, right?
Thinking this, she played it mysterious: “We’ve known each other for many years.”
Chen Peiran’s sneer was full of contempt: “Who in Yancheng doesn’t know He Tingzhou? One-sided acquaintance doesn’t count as ‘knowing’. Have you been abroad for too long and don’t understand the rules of Yancheng? Do you know who He Tingzhou is?”
“Do you know who his father is?”
Even in Yancheng, where the elite gather, the He family is at the top of the pyramid, an unattainable existence.
Shuangxu wasn’t intimidated at all, and instead asked back: “Do you know who I am?”
Chen Peiran scoffed, thinking this little girl was too young and naive to be putting on airs.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, Mr. He is not someone anyone can see. Your senior sister couldn’t even make an appointment with him, why are you pretending here?”
As he finished his sentence, the female employee who had gone to ask for instructions handed the phone to Shuangxu with both hands, her tone respectful:
“Mr. He wants you to take the call.”
Chen Peiran’s face changed, his features seemed to be cracking in all directions.
Shuangxu smiled slightly and answered the phone in front of him, calling out: “Brother Tingzhou.”
