With all the noise in his head, Wen Ze groggily opened his eyes.
The first thing he noticed was the overwhelming darkness.
Then, out of nowhere, it felt like his nose had been hit hard by something, and he couldn’t smell a thing. Along with the dizziness, he felt nauseous but couldn’t throw up.
He paused for a few seconds, blinked hard, and barely got rid of the strong feeling of dizziness.
His eyes slowly adjusted to the dark, and then he saw that he was in what seemed to be a pitch-black cave.
His hand, which was covering his nose and mouth, could feel a stream of cool air passing by.
The last memory he remembered before his heart attack was picking beans in the experimental field, under the glow of the sunset.
So… is this the world after death?
His head hurt, his nose hurt, everything hurt… It was so uncomfortable that he decided to go outside to get some fresh air.
Standing up, he followed the faint light and walked out of the cave step by step.
Finally, standing on solid ground, the sunlight stretching across the sky made him squint a little.
In front of him was an endless field, with tall grass from an unknown species of the Poaceae family. When the wind blew, the green grass rippled like waves.
Farther away, majestic mountains stretched into the distance, their towering trees reaching toward the deep blue sky, with thick, white clouds floating above them…
A flock of birds with wingspans over two meters, similar to wild geese, flew overhead in a row, letting out long, melodic calls as they glided by.
Another gust of wind blew in his face, and Wen Ze was so shocked that he took a step back.
Had he accidentally entered some land of giants? Why was everything so huge?
Or had his body shrunk as a twenty-four-year-old man?
He hurriedly looked down at his hands… thankfully, they seemed fine.
His wheat-colored skin and the calluses formed from years of farm work were still there.
But… why did it feel like the shape of his hand had changed?
He focused his eyes, trying to see more closely, and didn’t notice the rustling sound approaching.
It was only when a large shadow fell over him that he lifted his head.
Huh! A snake—no, a massive white python! How is that even real?!
Wen Ze’s pupils suddenly shrank, and his heartbeat froze in fear. His already confused mind grew even more clouded, and he was unable to think.
He was a graduate student in agricultural science, and he had dealt with all kinds of pests, rodents, snakes, and other creatures in the fields.
If it were an ordinary python, he wouldn’t be so scared.
But this white python was ridiculously huge! It only raised a small part of its body, and it was as tall as a two-story building!
Its snow-white head was as large as the front of a small car, and its bulging red eyes were larger than two footballs combined!
It was so close that he could clearly see the tightly packed white scales on its body. As it moved, the scales caused its massive body to rise and fall slowly, sending chills down his spine.
This giant python appeared silently. Was it considering him as its prey?
No one had warned him that the world after death could be this terrifying!
Just when he was frightened to death, the giant python lowered its head towards him, its scarlet vertical pupils locked on him, and it hissed and spit out its tongue.
Wen Ze saw the snake’s forked tongue and its faintly visible cold white fangs. The darkness before him grew even more intense, and he didn’t dare to breathe.
“Awake? Go back, you can’t be exposed to the wind right now.”
Suddenly, he heard a low, cold, magnetic voice of a man. It sounded pleasant, almost heavenly.
But why did it come from the giant python’s mouth!?
This giant python can speak human language!!!
Wen Ze couldn’t take the shock any longer. His eyelids trembled, and he fainted.
His last thought before fainting: “The afterlife is too terrifying, but I still want to live!”
In his unconscious state, he had a dream.
In the white mist, a translucent young man who looked 80% similar to him, but taller and thinner, looked at him with regret and sadness.
Wen Ze asked in confusion, “Are you… me?”
The young man was a bit surprised at first, then sighed in understanding. “Yes, from now on, you will be me.”
Wen Ze blinked, not understanding.
The young man looked at him seriously and said, “Please take good care of my brother, and… say sorry to him for me.”
As he finished speaking, he gently pushed forward.
Wen Ze felt a force on his soul, pulling him out of the water as if he had been drowning in it!
He opened his eyes quickly and gasped for breath. After a moment, he realized he was back in the cave where it all started.
He moved his fingers and felt an animal hide under his body. It was a bit rough to the touch and made a rustling sound when he moved. It might be because there was some dry grass underneath.
Beside him, a boy around ten years old was holding his arm and crying.
“Brother, how are you? Does your head still hurt?”
Wen Ze looked at him closely and thought he might not be fully awake yet.
Otherwise, why did he see that the boy had two bear ears on his head?
A sharp pain pierced his head, and large sections of unfamiliar memories suddenly rushed into his mind.
It felt like hours had passed, but also like just a few moments. He widened his eyes in surprise.
It seemed that he hadn’t died, but instead had ended up in an ancient beast world!
In this world, people were divided into beastmen and half-beastmen.
Beastmen can transform between animal and human form. They are strong and good at fighting and hunting.
Half-beastmen have a human form, with only parts of their bodies, such as claws and ears, that can transform into beasts.
Compared to beastmen, half-beastmen are not as physically strong, but they are more patient and meticulous, and are more suitable for tasks such as gathering and cooking.
Regardless of whether they were beastmen or half-beastmen, their human forms were all male.
The young man he had seen in his dream was from the Southern Tribe, a half-beastman. He had the same name and age as him.
Unfortunately, a few days ago, while collecting, he accidentally fell off a cliff, hit his head, and could not be rescued.
By a twist of fate, Wen Ze’s spirit from the modern world took over his body.
Remembering the words the young man had told him in his dream, he turned his head and looked at the crying little boy.
“Yin He?” His voice was hoarse from dehydration, and what came out of his mouth was not modern language, but the language of the beastmen.
Now that he thinks about it, before he passed out, he heard the white python speaking in the beastmen’s language, but he had been too frightened at the time and didn’t realize it.
“Brother, I’m glad you’re awake! You scared me to death!” The little boy with round black bear ears apologized with tears in his eyes, “Brother, I’m sorry, I will never hunt secretly again!”
Wen Ze checked the original owner’s memories and quickly figured out what happened.
It turned out that this world was different from his original world. People grew and developed quickly and were considered adults at the age of ten.
After reaching adulthood, both beastmen and half-beastmen can participate in hunting and gathering in the tribe, but initially, they are assigned simple work, mainly for training and learning.
Wen Ze’s parents had passed away, and as a half-beastman, though the tribe would help, life in this era was hard. Getting enough to eat and staying warm were problems, and others in the tribe lived frugally—let alone their family.
The original owner’s eight-year-old brother, Yin He, was very sensible and wanted to reduce his burden, so he secretly learned hunting from the adult beastmen.
However, he didn’t catch the prey and almost got rammed in the spine by a wildebeest, and nearly died!
The original owner exploded in anger. He gave Yin He a harsh scolding and threatened to kick him out if he kept acting recklessly.
Yin He didn’t speak to him for several days afterward.
Later, when the original owner was severely injured, Yin He was so shocked and scared that he cried loudly.
From Yin He’s perspective, his brother must have hated him.
But in reality…
Wen Ze sat up and said with a straight face. “It’s good that you know your mistake. If you really want to hunt, then learn more from the beastmen in the tribe these next two years. When you come of age, I won’t stop you.”
Yin He nodded repeatedly and asked cautiously, “Brother, you’re not angry with me anymore?”
Wen Ze sighed, raised his thin arm, and patted Yin He’s head.
“I wasn’t angry with you.”
In fact, the original owner went to the cliff to gather some honey because it was Yin He’s favorite.
He wanted to bring it back to cheer him up.
But with all the rain lately and not much sun, the mountain got unstable, and he ended up stepping into a hole…
Afraid that Yin He would feel guilty, Wen Ze did not tell him these words.
After lowering his hand, Wen Ze spoke seriously: “Yin He, I’m sorry for scolding you too harshly before. I hope you can forgive me.”
At eight years old, Yin He already looked like a twelve or thirteen-year-old boy from the modern world.
He had round eyes with extremely black pupils, and a bit of baby fat on his face, which softened the sharpness of his features, giving him a sunny and handsome appearance.
After hearing Wen Ze’s words, tears suddenly flashed in his eyes, making him look even more innocent and pure.
He shook his head vigorously and sobbed, “It’s not your fault; it’s mine. I shouldn’t have ignored you just because I was angry! When Brother Zhuo Mu said you might not survive, I really regretted it! I should’ve stopped you from leaving that morning… Even if I couldn’t stop you, at least I could’ve said goodbye properly.’”
Wen Ze felt sad. Yin He was not the only one who regretted it.
Yin He, overwhelmed with emotion, tried to throw himself at him but was blocked by an arm that crossed in front of him.
“Don’t touch him. Go get him some water.”
The familiar cold voice made Wen Ze look up along his arm.
This is Zhuo Mu, the warrior from the Southern Tribe.
He was also the giant white python Wen Ze had seen outside the cave earlier.
Perhaps because of his beast form, his skin was as cold and white as jade, and his arms were strong and tough, without any trace of fat.
It was midsummer, and he was dressed in a silver fishskin skirt, with his well-defined chest exposed. His six-pack abs were clearly visible, and his muscles looked good without being too much, giving off a rugged, primal beauty that left a strong visual impression.
Beyond his collarbones and neck was his strikingly handsome face.
From his elegantly curved lips to his high nose and full forehead, he was undoubtedly a product of careful creation by the Creator.
His eyelashes and short hair were also a flawless silver-white, his lips light pink, and his eyes a deep blood red.
With a cold expression on his face, when his gaze swept over, his eyes narrowed slightly… the unmistakable beast-like aura made Wen Ze shiver.
Aside from being an excellent warrior, he was also the best healer in the Southern Mountain Tribe, and Wen Ze was currently receiving treatment in his cave.
As soon as he thought about how he had been confused before and fainted from being frightened by Zhuo Mu’s beast form, he just wanted to find a hole to hide in.
“Zhuo Mu, thank you for saving me. I’ll gather the supplies and give them to you as soon as possible.” Supplies were the “medical fees” in this world.
The tall and strong beastman gave a faint “hm.”
Wen Ze felt uncomfortable all over and whispered, “Since I’m awake, I’ll go home later.”
“You can’t go back.”
“Huh?”
“Yin He said your cave collapsed.”
