Chapter 164: How Is This Possible
“What… what is going on?”
Leng Qing Yu looked at Ye Xin Ran in disbelief.
“You’re clearly my daughter…”
“Mother, there must be a mistake. She’s definitely my sister!”
Lu Chang Qing couldn’t help but chime in.
“The facts are right before us,” the Marquis said calmly. “This blood test is an ancient method passed down by our ancestors. It cannot be wrong!”
Unlike the others, the Marquis seemed entirely unsurprised.
He turned to Ye Xin Ran and spoke slowly:
“Miss Ye, I’ve heard that you were disfigured as a child. After regaining your appearance, you suddenly looked like this.
May I ask how your face was restored? Did you use some special technique to make yourself resemble my wife?”
“You’re overthinking it, Marquis.”
Ye Xin Ran remained unfazed. “I’ve always looked like this, how could there be any ‘sudden’ change?
As for how my appearance was restored, I’m sure you’ve heard about it if you’ve inquired. Yong Le Hall’s ‘Snow Complexion Balm’ removes scars and helps restore appearances.
I noticed that your daughter seems to have some acne scars. Perhaps the Marquis should buy some for her, it works quite well.”
Lu Zhi Yi, who had been standing by watching with amusement, felt a surge of joy when she saw that Ye Xin Ran’s blood didn’t merge with the Marquis’s.
“Father didn’t lie to me,” she thought triumphantly.
But in the next moment, her satisfaction turned into anger as Ye Xin Ran casually brought up her complexion.
“Ye Xin Ran, you’re nothing but a wild child trying to sneak into the Marquis’s household. You think you’re qualified to comment on my lady’s appearance?”
Before Lu Zhi Yi could respond, her maid, Chun Tao, blurted out the insult.
Lu Zhi Yi quickly reprimanded her, “Chun Tao, slap yourself! Who allowed you to speak to Miss Ye that way?”
She then turned to Ye Xin Ran with an apologetic expression.
“Please don’t be upset, Sister. Chun Tao is ignorant and spoke out of turn. Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll send someone to Yong Le Hall to buy the balm later.”
“Hmph!”
Ye Xin Ran scoffed at her pretentious demeanor.
“A dog only bites when the owner allows it. Without permission, how could a dog dare to bark so recklessly?”
“Miss, look at her!” Chun Tao said, her face full of grievance.
Lu Zhi Yi’s expression darkened. “Since it’s been proven you’re not my father’s daughter, Miss Ye, I suppose I shouldn’t call you Sister anymore.”
“With how mature you look, it wouldn’t suit you to call me Sister anyway,” Ye Xin Ran said, deliberately looking her up and down.
“Moreover, even if I’m not the Marquis’s daughter, that doesn’t mean you are his daughter either, right?”
Ye Xin Ran had a strange feeling.
She had initially thought that Lu Zhi Yi would be Ye Da Cheng and Zou Shi’s daughter.
After all, this kind of thing happens in melodramatic stories all the time.
Poor parents, wanting a better life for their children, intentionally swap their own child with a rich family’s child.
But this Lu Zhi Yi seemed to have no connection to Ye Da Cheng or Zou Shi what so ever, and didn’t even resemble Ye Xin Yao in the slightest.
Could it be that Ye Da Cheng and Zou Shi secretly swapped their child after all?
Lu Zhi Yi didn’t seem upset by Ye Xin Ran’s words at all.
She maintained her noble lady demeanor and said, “Miss Ye makes a good point. In order to prove the truth, my father was already planning to do a blood test with me today. Father, I’ll do it now.”
Lu Zhi Yi said this and rolled up her sleeve, walking to the water bowl. She picked up the last silver needle.
She pricked her own finger, showing a slight expression of pain, then bit her lip and dropped the blood into the clean bowl.
After putting down the needle, she turned to the Marquis and said, “Father, I’ll trouble you again.”
The Marquis didn’t say anything. He glanced at Leng Qing Yu, then, with an air of feigned helplessness, stepped forward and took the silver needle he had just used, dripping a drop of his blood into the same bowl where Lu Zhi Yi had just dropped hers.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, the two drops of blood quickly blended together in the water, slowly merging as one.
The onlooking servants and maids gasped.
“Our young lady really is the true young miss!”
“I never would have thought… I also thought that Miss Ye was the Marquis’s daughter.”
“Me too. Miss Ye looks so much like the Madam.”
The Marquis looked at the blood in the bowl, wearing an expression that seemed to say ‘I told you so.’ He turned to Leng Qing Yu and said, “Madam, now you can finally believe me, right? I told you, Zhi Yi is our child.”
“How can this be?”
Leng Qing Yu’s lips trembled.
Leng Qing Xin quickly supported her from the side.
Lu Chang Qing’s face was full of disbelief.
“This can’t be, Mother, this can’t be. Ye Xin Ran must be my sister, I can feel it.”
“You ungrateful child!”
The Marquis suddenly shifted from his usual gentle and elegant demeanor and angrily scolded Lu Chang Qing, “It’s all because of you, using these words to deceive your mother, making her think that Miss Ye is the daughter of our Lu family!
Chang Qing, from childhood until now, has your sister ever wronged you?
When you were a child, always so competitive, was there anything your sister didn’t yield to you?”
“Back then, you monopolized your mother all day, and Zhi Yi was left in her room, crying by herself.”
“All these years have passed, and you still don’t know how to be grateful or repent. You even want to use such methods to drive a wedge between your mother and sister!”
The Marquis of Lu spoke faster and faster as he continued,
“Chang Qing, in our household, you and your sister are the only children. What exactly do you want to do!”
Lu Chang Qing’s face turned bright red.
He and his sister were twins, and he was sure of his feelings for her.
But why?
Why did the blood test result come out like this?
Faced with his father’s questioning, he raised his voice and retorted, “Marquis of Lu!
You always say that I bully Lu Zhi Yi, but have you ever seen what happens when Lu Zhi Yi bullies me?
She deliberately broke my favorite bamboo dragonfly and lost my three-character classic book. Did you ever stand up for me?”
Lu Zhi Yi quickly began to defend herself, “Father, I didn’t do it on purpose! I was careless back then, I never thought Chang Qing would hold onto it all these years!”
“Here we go again!”
Lu Chang Qing sneered in disdain when he saw Lu Zhi Yi’s expression,
“Always acting so fake and disgusting. Lu Zhi Yi, don’t you have any other tricks?”
“Enough!”
Lu Ting En shouted loudly.
“Lu Chang Qing, what kind of sin did I commit to have such a disrespectful, uncouth son like you!
Tomorrow, you will go back to the capital and kneel in the ancestral hall for two months!
Unless I give you orders, you’re not allowed to leave the estate!”
“I won’t!”
Lu Chang Qing had long had enough of being wronged and was saying “no” for the first time.
Leng Qing Yu quickly tried to stop him when she saw him defy his father, “Chang Qing, you can’t speak to your father like this.”
However, Lu Ting En had already raised his hand high, “I see you’ve gotten a bit stronger, and now you’re defying me!”
As he said this, his raised hand swung down.
Just as the slap was about to land on Lu Chang Qing’s face, a hand reached out and stopped it.
