Chapter 11: Deliberately Letting Her See
After Shuangxu turned seventeen, Shen Yu moved out of the Shen family and lived alone.
After he moved out, he came back less and less often. The frequency at which Shuangxu could see him changed from every day to once a week.
Fu Yun said he was busy with work, and she was still unhappy. She slumped in class, resting her chin on the desk.
Her best friend swore, “Your brother is twenty-five, he must have a girlfriend. It’s inconvenient to live at home, he can bring women home for the night if he lives alone.”
Shuangxu said she was talking nonsense, “My brother doesn’t have a girlfriend.”
Anyway, she never saw any women when she went to Shen Yu’s place.
She didn’t believe it at the time, until later, on Shen Yu’s birthday, she hid in the apartment wanting to give him a surprise, and then she saw him kissing a woman with her own eyes.
That moment was like the sky falling for her.
She knew the code for Shen Yu’s door lock. He always used the same one. She went there every weekend before, but after that, she never went again.
The car drove to the apartment building, and Shuangxu went upstairs with a thermos.
She didn’t know if Shen Yu had seen a doctor, and she didn’t know if he had any medicine at home. She bought some on the way when she passed a pharmacy.
After ringing the doorbell, she waited for a while before the door opened. She first saw a head of chestnut brown curls, followed by a woman’s exquisite and beautiful face.
Shuangxu froze, completely unprepared.
It was the female star from that night. Even without makeup, she was still stunningly beautiful. She was only wearing a man’s shirt, the loose hem covering her hips, and her legs were bare, not even wearing slippers.
The female star held the door with one hand, her eyes looked her up and down with a hint of hostility, as if treating her as some kind of competitor.
“Are you looking for Shen Yu? He’s not awake yet.”
After a moment of stiffness, Shuangxu found her voice, “I’m bringing some ginger soup for my brother.”
“You’re his sister?”
Everyone around Shen Yu knew he had a very beloved sister.
The female star’s attitude immediately took a one-eighty turn. A hint of shame flashed across her face. She gathered her hair, which she had deliberately made messy and lazy, pulled up the collar of the shirt that was open, and said softly, even with a hint of flattery, “Wait a moment, I’ll go call him.”
Shuangxu stood outside without moving, “No need, you can take it in.”
She handed her the thermos and the medicine, put her hands in the pockets of her trench coat, and turned to leave.
“Hey…” The female star looked at her retreating figure and knew she had made a stupid mistake this time. She had offended Shen Yu’s family on their first meeting.
Just as she was feeling remorse, Shen Yu walked out of the bedroom, his hoarse voice from the fever, “Who’s here?”
“Your sister came to bring you ginger soup, but she didn’t come in and left.”
Shen Yu’s gaze swept over the thermos and medicine bag in her hand, pausing slightly. She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but his originally weary brows were slowly softening.
She was a little flustered, before she could react, Shen Yu had already passed her, took his coat, opened the door and went out.
The elevator was a bit slow, maybe not slow, but every second felt incredibly long to Shuangxu.
When the door opened, she went in and just turned around, she saw Shen Yu walking out.
Her gaze dropped, watching Shen Yu walk to the elevator entrance, “Brother.”
Shen Yu’s voice was a bit hoarse, probably from the cold, “Why didn’t you call me when you came?”
“I didn’t want to disturb you.” Shuangxu said, “I still need to go to the hospital to see my senior.”
“I’ll take you.”
“No need, you’re sick, just rest more.”
“It’s just a cold.” Shen Yu stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the basement level.
There was some silence in the elevator. Shen Yu turned his head to look at her. She was standing in the corner, her shoulder against the wall, keeping the farthest distance from him.
It was Shen Yu’s car today, and on the way to the hospital, Shuangxu kept looking out the window in a daze.
Shen Yu spoke to her, but she didn’t hear. It wasn’t until he called out again, “Xiao Jiu.”
“Huh?” Shuangxu came back to her senses, only then did she realize they had already arrived at the hospital. She opened the car door and got out, bent down and said to him, “Brother, I’m going, you take care of yourself.”
Shen Yu didn’t speak, his gaze was unclear. Shuangxu was absent-minded, not paying attention to anything.
After a pause, Shen Yu said, “Go in.”
She responded, and rushed into the crowd of people coming and going in the hospital.
Shuangxu felt like she was the one with a high fever. Walking in the warm sunshine of April, but a chill was seeping out from her bones.
She knew Shen Yu had a woman.
But knowing it in your head is different from seeing it with your own eyes.
The former is a dull pain that is chronic and persistent, while the latter is a sharp, piercing pain that wakes up the dull and tears open the bloody wound of the numb.
She was clear-headed. Fu Yun deliberately sent her there today, deliberately let her see.
How could she be so wary of her?
When she reached the ward building downstairs, Shuangxu suddenly came back to her senses. She remembered that today was the day she was supposed to sign a contract with Yun Dun.
The joining of Yun Dun would decide whether Feixue could be revived. The side effects of chemotherapy were gradually subsiding. Shu Yang’s body had been better these past two days. To show Feixue’s importance to this cooperation, she personally took Xiao Liao to Yun Dun Group to sign the contract today, she wasn’t at the hospital at all.
So she didn’t go upstairs, she sat on the bench downstairs and basked in the sun.
Closing her eyes, the sunlight bathed her face, her limbs gradually warmed up.
Didn’t she decide before returning to China that she would put herself in her place and be a well-behaved sister from now on? What was she sad about?
Shuangxu, Shuangxu, she warned herself in her heart.
You have no right to be sad.
Shu Yang and Yun Dun’s treatment at Yun Dun this time was greatly improved. There was a special person to greet them at the door, all the way to the elevator.
Because of He Tingzhou’s meeting the secretary ushered them into the lounge, offering them exquisite coffee and pastries.
There were also two blueberry mousse cakes.
Shu Yang couldn’t eat too much, so she only had a couple of bites. The rest went into Xiao Liao’s stomach.
Xiao Liao mumbled as she ate: “This President He is so hard to handle. He’s so scheming and unpredictable. In ancient times, he’d be the kind of treacherous and cruel emperor who would give you a piece of cake, then before you finish it, he’d slit your throat and take the cake back.”
Shu Yang: “Stop it, I’m going to puke.”
Not long after, the door to the meeting room next door opened, and a group of men in suits walked out.
He Tingzhou, standing in the middle, towered over the rest. Among the unremarkable executives, he stood out like a meticulously edited character from a comic book.
Xiao Liao: “Wow, he’s so handsome! He looks like my future husband!”
Shu Yang: “If you’re not afraid of getting your neck slit, I have no objections.”
Outside the glass door, He Tingzhou was listening to someone speak nonchalantly. The secretary walked up to him and said something. He glanced into the lounge.
His gaze swept over their faces, pausing for a microsecond, before he withdrew it without any reaction.
Five minutes later, they were sitting across from He Tingzhou in the meeting room.
He Tingzhou sat in a chair with his back to the window. His legs were crossed, and a section of black dress socks peeked out from under his trousers.
The signing process was incredibly smooth. He didn’t even say much before signing the document readily.
After receiving the freshly minted contract, Shu Yang said a few thank-you-for-your-patronage-and-pleasant-cooperation kind of platitudes.
He Tingzhou closed his pen cap and asked casually: “Where’s Song Shangxu?”
Xiao Liao’s mood was like a small sprout that had come back to life, filled with hope. She innocently revealed Shangxu’s whereabouts:
“Our little boss went to deliver ginger soup to her brother.”
