“Beyond the Boundaries” Chapter 42

Chapter 42: Applying Medicine

He Tingzhou was driving a Cullinan today, parked directly opposite the bus stop. Shuangxu had never seen it before, no wonder she hadn’t noticed it earlier.

She didn’t know when he arrived.

After hanging up the phone, the dog that was sitting motionless on the ground stood up and walked towards the pedestrian walkway.

After taking a few steps, it turned around to look at her.

Shuangxu didn’t want to go over to He Tingzhou, so she said to the dog, “You go over yourself, I’m going home.”

The Doberman turned back to her, gesturing for her to follow.

Shuangxu said, “I’m not going.”

This dog, like its owner, was domineering. It directly bit her pants with its mouth and pulled her towards the car.

“…”

It was quite strong, and Shuangxu really didn’t want to have an undignified fight with a dog in public.

Mainly, this dog was too fierce, she was indeed a little afraid.

She was forcibly escorted like a prisoner, one step at a time, across the pedestrian walkway and the road, to He Tingzhou’s car.

He Tingzhou had already gotten out of the car, arms crossed, leaning against the car door, watching her being herded over by the dog.

The evening light was thin, like a layer of blue filter, making the whole world a bit blurry.

He Tingzhou had high cheekbones and narrow, sharp eyes. The lines of his face, one pressing down and one rising, formed a strikingly handsome appearance.

Dressed in white and black, he stood out too clearly on the street that was about to darken.

Shuangxu stopped about a meter away from him, “The dog brought you back.”

He Tingzhou straightened up and walked towards her. Shuangxu instinctively took a step back, but he was taller than her. He Tingzhou grabbed her arm and pulled her into his arms.

Shuangxu wasn’t prepared for his sudden action, and when she bumped into him, the cool, pine-like scent instantly brought back her memories.

As her heart pounded, she heard a motorcycle speeding past her from behind.

He Tingzhou let go of her arm, lowered his eyes, and looked at her, “Why are you blushing?”

Shuangxu remained calm, “Your face would turn red too if you got slapped.”

He Tingzhou’s gaze slowly moved across her left cheek.

The swelling was quite severe, the capillaries under her skin must have broken. Her skin was delicate, but the person who hit her didn’t show any mercy.

Shuangxu pushed his hand away, He Tingzhou asked, “Did you enjoy the cake?”

“What?” Shuangxu asked, then understood from his dark eyes.

She pursed her lips, being slapped and then having to listen to this kind of sarcasm, she said angrily, “Why don’t you try it yourself?”

Her rudeness didn’t anger He Tingzhou at all. He chuckled slightly, “Too bad, no chance. The person who dares to slap my face hasn’t been born yet.”

Shuangxu didn’t say anything.

Although his arrogant tone was annoying, it was the truth.

Who would dare to slap the face of their Prince Charming?

He Tingzhou took a tube of ointment from a bag with a pharmacy logo printed on it, unscrewed the lid, and moved his fingertip with the ointment towards her face.

Shuangxu instinctively avoided it, He Tingzhou directly held her chin and fixed her face.

“It’s not poisonous. Don’t move. It’s for swelling.”

“I’ll do it myself.” Shuangxu tried to resist.

He Tingzhou said sarcastically, “You’ve been sitting there on display for so long, haven’t you done it yourself?”

What did he mean by on display?

As he spoke, He Tingzhou’s finger had already touched her cheek, the slight coolness had an immediate pain-relieving effect.

Shuangxu gave up resisting, turned her head sideways, and looked at the greenery on the roadside.

Even without looking, she could still feel that intensely present gaze locked on her face. He Tingzhou lowered his head, his gaze was so focused because of applying the medicine, that her cheeks involuntarily flushed.

Shuangxu leaned her back against the car door, trying to create as much distance as possible.

“They want to see, what can I do, I can’t dig out their eyeballs.”

Her features were beautiful and delicate, if she were a little more alluring, she would be dazzling.

But she also had a natural sense of purity, her eyes were round and soft, making people want to protect her.

The distance was too close, the fine hairs on her face were visible in the dim light, her eyelashes trembled slightly due to nervousness.

He Tingzhou’s tiger’s mouth held her chin, and when his thumb pressed against her cheek, her head obediently followed his movement.

He spread the ointment, looking down and saying, “Why not, don’t you have a spoon?”

Shuangxu was a little speechless, she turned her eyes to look at him, “You use a spoon to dig out people’s eyes?”

He Tingzhou raised his eyebrows, “What else would you use?”

His eyes were very special, with a cold, sharp edge like a sword, but the upward curve at the corners of his eyes was also charming and romantic, a combination of two traits that were contradictory and dangerous.

Shuangxu turned her eyes away, “I’ve never dug them out before, how would I know?”

After applying the ointment, He Tingzhou let go of her and threw the ointment back into the car.

Shuangxu quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

She felt inexplicably uncomfortable, and was about to leave when He Tingzhou leisurely wiped his fingers clean, then took a cake from the car and handed it to her.

Shuangxu looked at the cake, confused, “What’s this?”

He Tingzhou held the white ribbon on the cake box, his thin lips lazily curled up, “You’ve already had your appetizers, aren’t you going to have some main course?”

“…”

This guy.

Shuangxu could tell the difference between good and bad, she was silent for a moment, and finally took the cake.

She sat on the chair by the roadside and slowly ate the cake, He Tingzhou leaned against the door of the Cullinan.

He didn’t know where he got a leaf, and he was pinching it between his fingers, occasionally playing with it.

The dog squatted beside him, watching Shuangxu eat the cake along with him.

This tiramisu was unexpectedly delicious, Shuangxu was eating it when she felt a pair of eyes staring at her.

She turned her head, the Doberman’s always cool eyes were fixed on her hand–>>

The cake was delicious. She licked her lips.

Shuangxu asked He Tingzhou, “Can it be eaten?”

He Tingzhou glanced at the dog and said simply and brutally, “It’s poisoned. The dog will die if it eats it.”

The Doberman lay down dejectedly.

After finishing the cake, it was completely dark.

Her face didn’t seem to hurt as much anymore, and her mood had calmed down.

He Tingzhou drove her home. When they arrived at No. 9 Songming Road, it was late at night.

Shuangxu got out of the car at the door and stood there in silence for a moment, still saying to He Tingzhou, “Thank you.”

Her tone was slightly tense. One thing for another. Today’s medicine and cake couldn’t offset his bad behavior that day.

He Tingzhou curled his lips and leaned back in his seat, saying lazily, “Don’t thank me yet. Remember the towering image of me in your heart right now. Next time you want to scold me, think about it first.”

Had she ever scolded him? That didn’t count.

“I didn’t scold you,” Shuangxu said. “Every time, you’re the one who teases me first. I’m just resisting after being oppressed.”

He Tingzhou’s black eyes looked over lazily, “What, should I apologize to you?”

Shuangxu said very resolutely, “Don’t apologize yet either. Next time you bully me, think about it first.”

She turned and went inside. When she got to the downstairs, she saw Shen Yu’s car parked there.

Shen Yu stood beside the car, holding a cigarette in his hand that hung by his side, burning silently. He looked into the distance, the shadows of the paulownia trees falling on him. He didn’t know what he was thinking. Shuangxu walked over and he didn’t notice.

“Brother, why are you here?”

Shen Yu came back to his senses and saw her coming. He put out the cigarette.

“Where did you go?”

“I saw a friend,” Shuangxu said.

“Have you treated the wound on your face?” Shen Yu looked at her left cheek. The swelling had subsided a bit.

Shuangxu nodded, “I put some medicine on it.”

After entering May, the temperature rose quickly. The night wind no longer felt cold, but became a subtle coolness that you wouldn’t notice until later.

Shen Yu asked her, “What did you want to tell me at the hospital?”

The urge to be dependent on him like a child had cooled down. Shuangxu shook her head, “Nothing.”

She couldn’t stay under Shen Yu’s wings forever, enjoying his protection. That right was taken away five years ago.

Shen Yu seemed to be in a low mood today. He looked at her silently for a while, then reached out and rubbed her hair.

His eyes were well hidden by the night. He said softly, “Go upstairs. Get some rest.”
