Chapter 6: You’re Not Gu Yunlan
Gu Jiaojiao acted as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Gu Yunlan had always been her punching bag, even pouring her chamber pot. The dog by her side was of a higher status than Gu Yunlan, who knows how much higher. She never thought there was anything wrong with ordering Gu Yunlan to do such a thing.
Gu Yunlan crossed her arms, a mocking smile playing on her lips: “Gu Jiaojiao, in terms of status, I’m now the daughter-in-law of the Mu family, not a member of the Gu family. In terms of rank, the Minister of Justice is higher than the Minister of Revenue. In terms of seniority, I’m your elder sister. You want me to serve your dog? Are you crazy?”
Wu, catching a glimpse of the people around her pointing and gossiping about Gu Jiaojiao, was displeased. But she maintained a polite smile, reaching out to pull Gu Jiaojiao: “Child, why are you joking with your sister like this? Don’t you know what occasion this is?”
Then she bowed slightly to the guests: “They are sisters who love each other dearly. Jiaojiao is young and has been spoiled by Lan’er. Please don’t mind her.”
Gu Jiaojiao took Wu’s cue and immediately said: “Sister~ I was just playing with you. You wouldn’t really be angry, would you?”
Gu Yunlan raised an eyebrow.
This Wu was a tough cookie. In a few words, she had turned Gu Jiaojiao’s arrogant and rude image into a spoiled little girl’s coquettishness.
The original owner was not good with words and was timid and cowardly. How could she possibly compete with this old fox who was full of tricks? No wonder she had suffered so much for so many years and was eventually sent to a rush marriage to be humiliated.
She was too lazy to cooperate with this hypocritical stepmother. Just as she was about to expose her, she heard Wu say with a smile: “My memory is failing me. You’re returning home today, you must want to see your aunt. Someone, quickly go and invite Yun’er.”
Wu had a smile on her face, but her eyes were cold.
Little slut, even if you marry well, so what? Even if your husband didn’t die, so what? Don’t think that you can be arrogant just because you’re married. As long as your aunt and brother are in my hands, you’ll never escape my grasp.
Gu Yunlan went along with it: “Thank you, Mother.”
Although Yun’er was weak and sickly, she was genuinely good to the original owner.
It’s a pity that her own brother, Gu Ziming, was a useless ingrate. He was always flattered by Wu and was always smiling, but he was always rude to his own mother, Yun’er, and his own sister.
Since she had taken on the original owner’s karma, she would take care of her family for her.
Soon, Yun’er was brought to the banquet hall.
Gu Yunlan took a quick look at her.
Yun’er was wearing a new dress made of cloud brocade. At first glance, it seemed like she was living a good life, but the new dress was quite large, and it looked very loose on Yun’er, making it look ill-fitting.
The shoes she was wearing were also washed to a whitish color, and the edges were even worn.
Gu Yunlan understood. Wu was taller than Yun’er, who was from Jiangnan. This dress was obviously something Wu had discarded after wearing it herself, just to put on a show. But there were no suitable shoes for the moment, so she didn’t change them.
She took two steps forward and called out: “Aunt.”
Yun’er’s eyes immediately turned red: “Good child, Aunt knew you were blessed. This is your husband, right?”
Gu Yunlan pulled Mu Chenye, who was eating candy people, over: “Husband, this is my aunt.”
Mu Chenye immediately called out obediently: “Aunt.”
After greeting her, he handed the candy person to Gu Yunlan: “Wife, eat, candy person sweet!”
Yun’er looked at Mu Chenye and nodded repeatedly, tears in her eyes: “Good, good. Although he’s foolish, it seems like your husband is very good to you. Even if I close my eyes, I can rest assured.”
Gu Ziming, who entered shortly after, snorted and threw a pebble at Mu Chenye’s head: “A fool has become my sister’s husband. What a disgrace!”
The fourteen-year-old boy was tall and fat, and his hands were strong. If he really hit Mu Chenye, he would probably be hit with a bloody head. Gu Yunlan kicked the pebble away with a high kick, glaring at Gu Ziming: “Gu Ziming, are you tired of living?”
Mu Chenye had been bullied since he was a child. Now, scared by Gu Ziming, he quickly crouched down, covering his head: “Don’t hit me, I’m not a fool, don’t hit me, I’m scared…”
The little puppy was usually lively and cheerful, except for being afraid of Mu Wencheng and Mu Zixuan. He was always happy to see anyone. This was the first time Gu Yunlan had seen Mu Chenye like this, and she felt heartbroken.
She squatted down and gently stroked Mu Chenye’s head: “Don’t be afraid, I’m here, no one can hurt you.”
“Candy person, wife just bought it for me!” Mu Chenye’s eyes were red with heartache. He wanted to pick up the candy person on the ground and put it in his mouth.
“Good boy, we won’t eat it. Wife will buy you another one later.” Gu Yunlan comforted him for a long time before the little puppy stopped whimpering.
“A useless person and a fool, what a perfect match.” Gu Ziming sneered, not even looking at Yun’er, who wanted to persuade him, and rushed towards Wu, whining: “Mother, I’m hungry!”
Wu smiled and stroked Gu Ziming’s head: “Good boy, there are lotus cakes you like on that table. After dinner, Mother will have someone take you to watch a play.”
Gu Ziming smiled: “Thank you, Mother.”
Then he picked up a lotus cake and put it in his mouth.
But before the lotus cake could reach his mouth, a slap landed on his face. The lotus cake fell to the ground, mixing with Mu Chenye’s candy person in the dirt, no longer edible.
“Gu Yunlan, are you crazy? You dare hit me?” Gu Ziming was furious.
He had been spoiled by Wu. Not only had he neglected his studies, but his temper was also quick to flare. He rushed forward, trying to grab Gu Yunlan’s hair: “I’ll beat you to death, you little slut!”
Gu Yunlan dodged his attack with a nimble side step. Gu Ziming was thrown off balance and fell to the ground. Before he could get up, Gu Yunlan sat on him, grabbed his collar, and slapped him repeatedly with loud slaps.
Gu Ziming was stunned. He tried to struggle. Logically, Gu Yunlan, with her thin arms and legs, shouldn’t be able to hold him down, but for some reason, he couldn’t muster any strength.
Could it be that Gu Yunlan had learned some kind of sorcery after getting married?
Gu Yunlan slapped and cursed: “You ingrate, you’re so rude to your own sister and brother-in-law, but you listen to your black-hearted stepmother who has ruined you, right? You dare hit me? Today, I’ll let you know what bloodline suppression is!”
The people around wanted to step forward to stop her, but Gu Yunlan was in the middle of a frenzy, and they couldn’t stop her.
Gu Ziming couldn’t struggle. At first, he could still curse, but after being beaten so badly, he could only beg for mercy.
Gu Xiude saw the commotion and looked at the guests watching the show. His face turned black: “Enough!”
“Enough? Not enough, far from enough!” Gu Yunlan’s mouth was running, and her hands didn’t stop.
“You’re only concerned about losing face now, so you come out to stop me. You don’t even care how your son has been ruined? He spends all day playing with cats and dogs, fighting and cursing. He’s fourteen years old and can’t even recite the Three Character Classic! He only knows how to watch plays after eating!”
Yun’er looked at Gu Xiude’s ugly face, and she was about to cry: “Lan’er, stop it.”
She couldn’t give her cheap, scumbag father any face, but she had to give her mother some face. Gu Yunlan stopped, looking at Gu Xiude.
“If you don’t teach your children, it’s your fault as a father. Father, you have committed a great sin!”
“You!” Gu Xiude was furious. He narrowed his eyes at Gu Yunlan, but then he blurted out: “You’re not Gu Yunlan. Who are you?”
