Chapter 2: The Invincible Leader of the Laba Flower Brigade
When the village chief left, Ye Sanqiu strutted into the courtyard, a smug smile on her face. She pushed her way to Grandma Ye’s side and pointed towards the courtyard gate, saying, “Has Li Weimin come to complain again?”
Grandma Ye was both angry and amused by her shameless attitude. She raised her hand and lightly slapped Ye Sanqiu’s arm, cursing, “What did you do? Don’t you know?”
Ye Sanqiu knew exactly what she had done.
She had known that once she hit that gossiping young woman, the village chief would come complaining to her house.
But she had no regrets about slapping the gossiping woman.
After all, that woman had been talking behind her back, and unfortunately for her, Ye Sanqiu overheard it.
Not giving her a good lesson would go against her “Laba Flower Brigade’s Big Boss” image.
Did they think she was still the “poor little Ye Sanqiu” who could be trampled on by anyone?
Ye Sanqiu had crossed over three years ago.
The original Ye Sanqiu was an orphan, raised by Grandma Ye after her parents died.
Because she had no parents to protect her, she grew up with a timid and honest personality.
She was the kind of person that anyone could step on.
Although Grandma Ye protected her, the Ye family was large, and there were other grandsons and granddaughters besides Ye Sanqiu. She could not always be protected.
Three years ago, Ye Oldest’s wife and Ye Second’s wife colluded, and while Grandma Ye was away, they hired a matchmaker to arrange for Ye Sanqiu to marry an old widower from the neighboring village, who had three children. They had already agreed on a bridal price without Grandma Ye or Ye Sanqiu’s knowledge.
The original Ye Sanqiu overheard from her younger cousin that the man she was supposed to marry was an old man who had lost his wife and had three children, all old enough to be her father. She absolutely refused.
Faced with the large bridal price, Ye Oldest’s wife and Ye Second’s wife could not allow Ye Sanqiu to back out.
In the scuffle, Ye Sanqiu accidentally hit her head against the door frame.
Unexpectedly, this blow caused her to die.
Ye Sanqiu arrived at that moment.
She inherited the memories of the original Ye Sanqiu and quickly skimmed through the original’s brief life. Then, Ye Sanqiu went mad.
She broke the arms of Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s wives, slapped the matchmaker’s face, and used a broom to chase the matchmaker away.
Not satisfied, she even kidnapped Ye Oldest’s daughter, Ye Dachun, and personally sent her to the old widower’s house.
The Ye family obviously wouldn’t watch as Ye Dachun was married off to an old man with three children. Ye Oldest and Ye Second, relying on their seniority and being men, tried to forcefully swap Ye Sanqiu with Ye Dachun.
But they were no match for the crazy Ye Sanqiu, who defeated them with a swift kick before they could get close.
The situation escalated to the point where the village chief had to intervene. But Ye Sanqiu, in her rage, wouldn’t give in to anyone.
She even threatened the village chief, saying if he interfered in Ye family matters, she would report him to the commune for being involved in human trafficking with the Ye family.
In this era, marriage freedom was important, and Ye Sanqiu saw the forceful marriage attempt as human trafficking.
Her argument was so convincing that the village chief was left sweating.
The village chief dared not get involved in the Ye family’s issues.
Eventually, the village chief sent for Grandma Ye, who was visiting her sick eldest brother.
When Grandma Ye learned of the wicked deeds of Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s wives, she picked up a broom and beat the four adults in the family, saying that Ye Sanqiu was right, and killing those heartless people would be no injustice.
What kind of family would conspire against their niece, whose parents had died?
Such evil!
The Ye family had fallen on hard times.
Grandma Ye did not help persuade the enraged Ye Sanqiu. Instead, she helped her beat the four heartless elders.
The village chief’s purpose in summoning Grandma Ye was not to have her help beat people. After speaking a few words of advice, he sternly criticized Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s wives in front of Grandma Ye and Ye Sanqiu. Only then did Grandma Ye agree to try to persuade Ye Sanqiu.
In the end, Ye Sanqiu, out of respect for Grandma Ye, calmed down.
However, she made it clear that she would not forgive Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s wives and even threatened to report them to the police.
Since the original Ye Sanqiu had died because of them, what use would an apology be? Why bother the police?
When Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s wives heard about reporting to the police, their legs went weak, as did the village chief’s.
After repeated pleas from the village chief and Grandma Ye, Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s families paid a large sum of compensation for Ye Sanqiu’s mental distress and reputation damage. Only after the village chief promised to severely punish Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s wives did Ye Sanqiu drop the idea of going to the police.
But just two days later, the Ye family was robbed. All the money saved by Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s families was stolen by thieves.
Ye Oldest’s and Ye Second’s wives insisted that Ye Sanqiu was the thief, but they had no evidence, and the thief was never caught. Ye Sanqiu, accusing them of slandering her, beat them again.
From then on, Ye Sanqiu seemed like a completely different person.
The field work was no longer done, and the housework was neglected. If anyone in the Ye family dared to say anything against her, Ye Sanqiu would go into a rage.
At first, the Ye family members were still not convinced and tried to suppress her.
But after Ye Sanqiu had beaten everyone in the family, except Grandma Ye, they finally learned to behave.
It was clear: Ye Sanqiu was just like her mysterious, early-dead mother—strong and brutal.
Ye Sanqiu’s madness wasn’t just confined to her family; it extended to everyone in the Laba Flower Brigade.
Anyone who dared to provoke her would be beaten.
In just three short years, she had beaten everyone in the Laba Flower Brigade and had successfully made herself the most despised person in the entire village.
And she didn’t care in the slightest.
In her previous life, she had been bound by all sorts of rules and could never live as her true self.
Since she had memories, she recalled that she was about two years old when Ye Oldest adopted her from the orphanage.
Once she entered the organization, her life was nothing but training, day after day, year after year, without a break.
She had no hobbies, no personal thoughts, and no friends she could confide in.
At the age of fifteen, the organization assigned her her first mission, and from that moment on, she became a money-making tool for the organization, a heartless killing machine.
Perhaps due to her heavy sins, she was killed by the enemy during her final mission.
When she opened her eyes again, she found herself in the body of the original Ye Sanqiu.
Living again, she didn’t want to relive her past life of killing and endless routines. She wanted to live a normal life, a life where she could do whatever she pleased, where no one could control her fate.
“Why did you knock out Wang Zhiqing’s tooth again?”
Grandma Ye’s voice brought Ye Sanqiu back to reality.
Ye Sanqiu furrowed her brows lightly and said with a cold tone laced with slight disdain, “She was talking behind my back, saying that I look down on everyone, yet secretly fawning over the male youth at the youth center. She called me a shameless whore.”
“She not only slandered me, but she also ruined my reputation. I knocked out one of her teeth to show mercy.”
Ye Sanqiu wasn’t afraid of Wang Jiaojiao going to the commune to report her.
She had a thousand ways to make Wang Jiaojiao reconsider.
She was violent, but not brainless.
Otherwise, after all the people she had beaten over the past three years, she would have been reported to the authorities long ago.
Grandma Ye twitched her mouth in frustration.
In her heart, she thought: Does Ye Sanqiu still have a reputation in the Laba Flower Brigade?
But judging by what the mischievous girl had just said, Wang Zhiqing deserved the punishment.
How dare she insult my granddaughter? She deserved a beating.
However, considering Li Weimin’s dedication to advancing the brigade, Grandma Ye decided to back down.
Li Weimin was, after all, the village chief, and the Ye family would have to work under him in the future. Some respect for his position was necessary.
“Alright, you don’t need to worry about Wang Zhiqing. I’ll take two eggs and go visit her at the youth center.”
After all, she had knocked out a tooth, so compensating with two eggs was the least she could do.
“You don’t need to go. I’ll go find her later,” Ye Sanqiu said. If she caused trouble, she would also take responsibility for cleaning up the mess.
Not only did Wang Jiaojiao have a loose tongue, but Ye Sanqiu had her own sharp tongue, one capable of turning black into white, a kind of toxic sharpness.
Wang Jiaojiao had picked the wrong person to provoke.
Grandma Ye silently sympathized with Wang Jiaojiao for two seconds.
Why would she badmouth someone like this troublemaker?
Even if she couldn’t control her mouth, at least find a more secret place to talk.
Now look, she’s been heard and had her tooth knocked out. She deserves it!
While Grandma Ye thought this, she knew she couldn’t let Ye Sanqiu visit Wang Zhiqing, or else the village chief’s hopes for an advanced brigade might be dashed.
For the sake of the Ye family’s future ease of work, Grandma Ye planned to meet Wang Zhiqing personally.
“Sanqiu, listen to me. I’ll handle this. I promise I’ll compensate her with two eggs and won’t grovel or soften my tone. I’ll just explain the situation. If she doesn’t relent, you can step in. How does that sound?”
Over the past three years, Grandma Ye had cleaned up countless messes for Ye Sanqiu, but always with conditions.
She couldn’t beg, and she couldn’t compensate too much.
Ye Sanqiu had suggested this.
Grandma Ye knew her granddaughter cared for her. Every time she cleaned up her mess, it was with reason and persuasion.
In front of Grandma Ye, Ye Sanqiu could never bring herself to refuse.
Grandma Ye was the only one who had been kind to the original Ye Sanqiu and the only one who made her feel warmth in this world.
“Twenty minutes. I’ll go pick you up from the youth center in twenty minutes,” Ye Sanqiu finally relented.
“You don’t need to pick me up. I’ll be back myself in twenty minutes.”
Grandma Ye went back to the house, grabbed two eggs, and left.
