Chapter 52
Tang Wan had no idea what the old man was thinking. She was looking at all the things in the room with regret.
They were treasures, indeed, but they were worthless now that they were broken.
Many pearwood tables and chairs were smashed to pieces. In addition, there were some books and paintings that were torn to shreds.
There were also many fragments of antique ornaments, which made people feel heartbroken.
Tang Wan was a Chinese medicine practitioner before she traveled through time. She was particularly interested in ancient culture and had some knowledge of it.
These things were treasures that could be preserved for generations.
She squatted down and carefully searched. There were almost no intact tables and chairs, so she didn’t think about buying them for use.
However, she found many books, including current textbooks, which she piled up.
There were hardly any paintings that could be salvaged, so she found a few calligraphy practice books and put them between the textbooks and exercise books.
As she was sighing over a scroll of calligraphy, she accidentally touched the bottom of the scroll.
Tang Wan gently pressed her finger on it, and the scroll loosened. She glanced at the people nearby who were diligently searching for things.
She quickly lowered her head and pulled out the wooden plug at the bottom of the scroll. As a result, she pulled out a golden rod that was only slightly thinner than the scroll!
Tang Wan: !!!!
These people were really good at hiding things. She used the tables and chairs as cover to throw the golden rod into her space.
Then, her eyes lit up as she stared at the “scrap” in front of her!
There must be many smart people like this. She had to search carefully.
This batch of scrap should be newly delivered. Tang Wan found a piece of high-quality ink from the center of a thick dictionary.
The person had carved a hole in the dictionary and sealed it. She also found several rare books in the space between the tables and chairs.
Inside were medical books and manuscripts that Tang Wan was particularly interested in, as well as the genuine works of several masters.
A broken brush was hiding a high-quality wolf hair brush, and a tattered dressing box had diamonds and pearls hidden in its compartment.
There were even gold nuggets wrapped in dirty, black mud.
She had struck gold! Tang Wan quietly put all these good things into her space. She also put some of the paintings that could be repaired in there.
When the difficult times passed, she could hand these treasures back to the government.
Before leaving, she picked up two thick stacks of books and found the old man. She smiled brightly and said,
“I don’t have any toilet paper at home. I’ll use these. Could you please weigh them for me, grandpa?”
“Okay.”
The old man could also see Tang Wan’s little scheme. He put down his dry pipe and weighed the books.
“Twenty-three kilograms. That’ll be two yuan and three cents.”
He thought to himself, “You need a lot of paper to wipe your bottom.” He didn’t expose Tang Wan.
“Okay.”
Tang Wan handed the old man two yuan and three cents. Her eyes fell on a few dusty porcelain bowls next to the old man’s table.
“Grandpa, are you selling these bowls? I don’t have any bowls at home to eat from.”
She had bought enamel bowls at the supply and marketing cooperative today. She had rarely used them before she traveled through time.
She was more used to using porcelain bowls, so she just casually asked. The old man was unwilling to sell them, but he didn’t mind.
“If you want them, they’re five cents each.”
The old man looked at Tang Wan with a mysterious expression and thought to himself, “This girl knows her stuff.”
Oh well. He couldn’t protect these things anyway. If she wanted to buy them, she could have them.
“Thank you, grandpa.”
Tang Wan didn’t know what the old man was thinking. She quickly put the four bowls and two plates into her backpack.
Actually, she had already put these fragile things into her space when the old man wasn’t paying attention.
The books were twenty or thirty kilograms, which was very heavy. Tang Wan left the scrap recycling station and didn’t buy anything else.
She planned to take the ox cart to Mao Zhuang Brigade, but when she arrived at the city gate and saw it packed with people, Tang Wan was overwhelmed.
Even if she squeezed onto the cart, she had so many things that there wouldn’t be enough room.
Thinking of the bicycle she had taken from Deputy Director Su’s house, Tang Wan’s eyes lit up. She asked the oxcart driver how to get there.
Then she left the city gate and entered her space when she passed by the small woods.
She put everything in her space and her eyes fell on the dusty bowls.
The dust was giving Tang Wan OCD. She casually washed them with water!
But then she was stunned!
These were not just bowls and plates.
They were antiques!
Tang Wan, who had a little knowledge of antiques, carefully wiped them clean with a handkerchief, her heart filled with joy.
Oh my god, she had struck gold!
If these were sold in the future, they would fetch millions each. These were Yuan blue and white porcelain!
Not just one, but six, six Yuan blue and white porcelain bowls and plates!
Tang Wan’s face flushed with excitement. She sort of understood the old man’s meaningful look when she took these bowls and plates.
Maybe he was secretly thinking that she had stepped on dog poop!
The old man had given her such good things. Tang Wan felt a pang of guilt, just a little.
She decided to repay the old man next time by bringing him some good things.
Tang Wan excitedly cleaned the treasures and carefully put them in her warehouse, wrapping them in three layers of packaging.
She looked at her watch. Oh, it was almost four thirty. She couldn’t waste any more time.
Thinking this, Tang Wan appeared with a brand new bicycle and rode through the small woods onto the main road.
It took longer to ride a bicycle than to take a supply vehicle, and Tang Wan didn’t know the way.
She rode and asked for directions from people she met along the way. By the time Tang Wan arrived at Mao Zhuang Brigade, panting from exhaustion, the clock had struck six in the afternoon.
The villagers who had been working in the fields seemed to have already finished work. Tang Wan saw a female comrade carrying firewood in the distance and rode her bicycle over to her.
“Hello, comrade.”
“Hello.”
The female comrade carrying firewood was about fifteen or sixteen years old. Her dark face was full of suspicion.
“Who are you looking for in our brigade?”
It was no wonder she was so suspicious. After all, Tang Wan was a stranger. She had never seen such a beautiful female comrade before.
“Hello, I’m from the family compound next door. I heard that someone in your brigade knows how to do carpentry.
My family needs some furniture. I want to make some cabinets. Can you tell me who knows carpentry?”
Last night, Tang Wan had asked Lu Huaijing, and the people in Mao Zhuang Brigade all knew about the family compound next door.
So when she said this, the girl opposite, Xinghua, lowered her guard. She smiled kindly.
“Uncle Mao is a carpenter. His house is the fourth house from the entrance of our brigade.
But he’s definitely not home now. The brigade is holding a criticism meeting.”
“A criticism meeting?!”
Tang Wan’s heart skipped a beat, and her face changed slightly. Her parents were sent here.
Was the criticism meeting criticizing her parents?
Tang Wan was anxious, but she didn’t dare to show it. Xinghua noticed that her voice had risen and explained,
“You’re from the family compound next door, so you don’t know. Our brigade brought in a few hedonists. They’re not good people.
If you’re looking for Uncle Mao, you can go over and see him. He’s at our brigade’s threshing ground.”
“Thank you.”
Tang Wan tried to hide her urgency. “It’s getting dark. I need to rush back to the family compound. I’ll just have to disturb them.”
She pedaled hard, her thighs were about to go numb. Her eyes were hot. She couldn’t panic.
Yes, she couldn’t panic. She had to control her emotions and not be discovered. Tang Wan did some mental preparation. However, when she rushed to the threshing ground, she almost couldn’t hold back.
