Chapter 65
Even if Tang Wan hadn’t been an accountant in her previous life, she still had the original owner’s memories. She quickly finished the entire exam paper.
After she finished, she didn’t rush to leave. Instead, she quietly observed the people in the room.
The invigilator was from the sugar factory’s labor union. He was standing at the door with his hands behind his back. Tang Wan quietly glanced at him.
He didn’t notice her. Then she lowered her head and continued to think.
When the first person handed in their paper, Tang Wan quickly got up and handed in her own exam paper.
After leaving the room, Tang Wan didn’t rush to leave. Instead, she stood a short distance away and observed the people who were coming out of the exam room.
She had to find someone to sell the job to.
What if she passed the exam and the job ended up in her hands?
“Chunli, how did you do?”
“Not good. I didn’t study those topics much before. If I don’t pass this time, I’ll have to wait for the next recruitment.”
“How could that be? With your uncle there, you’re sure to get in. It’s just me…”
“…”
Tang Wan’s eyes fell on two women not far away. One was wearing a Dacron shirt and had a high ponytail. She had a fair, round face. It was obvious that she came from a good family.
The woman next to her, who was constantly flattering her, was wearing older clothes and had a braided bun. Her face was sallow.
Tang Wan thought for a moment and watched them walk away. She confirmed the time for the announcement of the results in the afternoon and then rode her bicycle away.
It was soon time for the sugar factory workers to get off work at noon. Tang Wan thought of the wild boar meat in her space. She found an alley and went into her space to disguise herself.
When she came out, Tang Wan was carrying a backpack. She walked briskly to the entrance of the sugar factory.
The crowd that had been bustling around earlier had gradually dispersed, but there were still groups of people asking for news.
Tang Wan stood under the shade of a tree and took out a water bag to take a big gulp. After ten minutes,
it was time for the sugar factory workers to get off work at noon. There was a canteen inside, so not everyone came out for lunch.
But Tang Wan still wanted to try her luck. After all, the sugar factory’s family compound was next door.
Suddenly… her eyes fell on a fat woman. The woman had a rosy complexion. It was obvious that she came from a good family.
The key was that she was alone. She wasn’t with anyone else.
“Sister-in-law.”
Tang Wan acted very familiarly, startling Deng Jun. She frowned slightly. Before she could speak, Tang Wan said with a smile,
“My mother asked me to bring you something.”
“What?”
Deng Jun was confused. She walked a few steps. Now, there was a distance between her and the other people around.
Tang Wan then lowered her voice. “Sister, do you want some pork? My husband hunted it in the mountains.”
“Pork?”
Deng Jun’s eyes lit up at first. Then she looked at Tang Wan warily.
She was a team leader at the factory, so she was worried that Tang Wan was sent by her rival to set her up.
“Really.”
Tang Wan thought for a moment and pulled Deng Jun to the shade of a tree. Then she quietly lifted a corner of her backpack to show Deng Jun.
It was indeed excellent quality pork.
Deng Jun subconsciously thought of her two children at home, who were craving meat and their eyes were green with envy.
Her family was well-off, but their meat coupons were limited, so they didn’t eat meat very often.
“How did you get it?”
“The best pork. Nine mao four. No meat coupons needed.”
Tang Wan lowered her voice. As they walked towards the family compound next door, she whispered,
“Sister, you saw that I have a lot of pork, right? My husband and son worked hard to get it from the mountains.
If you can help me exchange some of it, I’ll give you a discount.”
“No, no. I’ll just buy two jin.”
Deng Jun wasn’t short of money. When Tang Wan said this, she finally felt at ease.
Even so, she didn’t dare to take Tang Wan into her own house. Instead, she took her to a corner near the family compound where there weren’t many people.
Tang Wan was quite regretful, but she didn’t force her.
She waited for Deng Jun downstairs. After a while, Deng Jun came down with a basket. Tang Wan put two pieces of pork into her basket.
She had cut them beforehand. Each piece was one jin, making it easier to sell.
“Sister, weigh it.”
“Just right.”
Deng Jun weighed it with her hand. People in this era used their hands as scales. She quickly handed Tang Wan one yuan and eight mao eight.
“Thank you, Sister. I have something to do at home. I’ll go now.”
She ran quickly. Tang Wan couldn’t help but laugh. She didn’t like to force people.
Just as she was about to change locations, an auntie suddenly rushed over. She grabbed Tang Wan.
“Girl, can you sell me some meat too?”
The auntie had a rosy complexion. It was obvious that she came from a good family. Tang Wan’s heart moved, but she pretended to hesitate.
“Auntie, you’re mistaken. Where would I get meat?”
“I saw Deng Jun take some from you just now.”
Auntie Liu was certain. Her family hadn’t eaten meat for days. She could smell it.
“My mother asked me to give it to Sister-in-law.”
Tang Wan thought that she had miscalculated. She had to be more careful next time. Otherwise, she would be caught and accused of profiteering.
“You don’t know, do you? Deng Jun is an only child.”
Auntie Liu said helplessly. “Her in-laws live with her. Where would she have a sister-in-law?”
Tang Wan: …
She helplessly glanced at Auntie Liu. “Auntie, can I go to your house for a glass of water?”
“Of course, of course.”
Auntie Liu excitedly led the way. As they walked, she said, “Girl, come to my house more often.
You’re always saying you’re busy. Your children miss you.”
Her tone was warm. The people on the road really thought they were relatives. They followed her to her house.
It was on the first floor of the family compound. As soon as Tang Wan went in, Auntie Liu closed the door. Her eyes were green with envy as she stared at Tang Wan’s backpack.
Tang Wan: …
It was clear that the auntie was craving meat. No wonder she was so plump.
“Auntie, look.”
Tang Wan took out a one-jin piece of meat from her backpack. The quality made Auntie Liu very happy.
“How much do you have? I want ten jin!”
Tang Wan: !!!
“Are you sure?”
“Sure!”
Auntie Liu’s eyes were fixed on Tang Wan’s backpack again. Tang Wan was speechless. She reminded her,
“This meat is nine mao four a jin. No tickets needed. Auntie, it’s hot. Meat doesn’t last long.”
“I know. It’s even better that I don’t need tickets.”
Auntie Liu’s face was kind. She said happily, “I can’t help it. There are many people in my family.
I have to give a jin to my parents on both sides. And my brother’s family. After I divide it up, how much will I have left?”
There were many people in her family. Their meat coupons weren’t enough. Every time they bought meat, it wasn’t enough for a snack.
“That’s true.”
Tang Wan took out two five-jin pieces of meat from her backpack. “Auntie, weigh it yourself.”
“I’ll go get you the money first.”
Auntie Liu trotted back to her bedroom. After a while, she brought nine yuan and eight mao to Tang Wan. “Count it.”
While Tang Wan was counting the money, Auntie Liu took out a scale from her house and carefully weighed it.
After weighing it, she looked at Tang Wan’s backpack with green eyes. “Girl, do you have more in there?
I know a lot of people. Should I introduce some people to you to buy it?”
Tang Wan: …
This was called “getting something for nothing”?
