Chapter 39: Call Me Sister-in-Law

Several pairs of small eyes were watching from outside, and Hu Yao was both embarrassed and annoyed.

When Jiang Han also spanked Hu Yao’s bottom, Jiang Xiaochao, who was always on Hu Yao’s side, pouted and rushed forward to protect her, shouting loudly: “Daddy, you’re mean! Don’t hit Yaoyao!”

The scene was chaotic and noisy.

Finally, after a lot of commotion, things calmed down somehow. Jiang Xiaochao took the new lantern and ran outside to play, while Hu Yao and Jiang Han sat in the courtyard, enjoying the moon and eating mooncakes.

“…”

The two sat in a quiet silence. Without Jiang Xiaochao, he wasn’t as fierce, and the atmosphere was strangely awkward.

Hu Yao quietly ate her mooncake, suddenly wanting to go find Lin Zhaodi.

Compared to her restlessness, Jiang Han seemed quite at ease. He wasn’t always idle and looking for someone to scold. The moonlight was clear, she was quietly sitting beside him, and there were a bunch of little kids giggling and laughing outside. It seemed like a pretty good feeling.

In previous years, he rarely celebrated these holidays. They didn’t even have a mooncake at home.

Since they had been together, even though they were often noisy and annoying, it was definitely more lively than when he was alone.

“Don’t just make clothes for Jiang Fuchao, make some for yourself too,” he said to her, his mood relaxed, talking about trivial matters.

“Have you run out of money in the drawer?”

“There’s still some left.” Hu Yao took a sip of tea. The tea leaves were from the new harvest in the tea fields.

“I don’t need to make clothes, I have a lot of them… Do you want to make some?” she asked hesitantly.

Sure enough, when he heard her say this, his expression softened. “Make some.”

“Make a few more for yourself. If you don’t want to make them, just buy them. There are plenty. Don’t keep those two you tore last time, sewing them up is a waste of time.” He was in a good mood.

“Those little clothes of yours, are they too small? Do they feel tight? Make some new ones!” He was generous. “If you don’t have enough money, tell me, don’t save it.”

Hu Yao blushed again at his words. It was his carelessness that had torn her clothes!

They were still in the courtyard, and he was so loud. He was so open and loud when talking about her private undergarments, and Hu Yao was afraid that someone might hear.

She took a bite of mooncake, looking at him with annoyance.

She ate delicately. Before, when she was silly, she ate messily. After finishing, she would shamelessly and naturally run to him and ask him to wipe her hands and face. If he didn’t, she would throw a tantrum. She was very spoiled.

Now, she didn’t have the courage to do that anymore.

Jiang Han suddenly felt a pang of regret.

“Give me your hand.”

When she finished her mooncake, he suddenly spoke, and as he spoke, he had already grabbed her hand.

Under Hu Yao’s surprised and curious gaze, he gently brushed away the crumbs from her hand.

Her hands were small and soft, with pale pink fingertips. After cleaning them, he kept holding them, playing with them with interest.

“Do you want anything?” he asked again.

Hu Yao didn’t understand.

“Rings, watches, necklaces, the things you women like.” She was clean and didn’t have anything on her. Jiang Han thought of those women who dressed up in flamboyant clothes, and for a moment, he wanted to get her some too. But even without dressing up, she was more beautiful than those dressed-up women.

He wanted to buy her these things… Hu Yao was stunned and shook her head. “No need.”

When she refused, he seemed unhappy again, and his grip on her hand tightened.

Hu Yao quickly said, “I’m at home all the time, I don’t need these… Thank you, Jiang Han.”

Her soft voice was gentle, and calling his name gave him a strange tingling sensation. He actually liked it when she called him by his name.

Jiang Han’s expression softened. He reached out and rubbed her head. “If you don’t need them, just keep them to look at!”

It wasn’t like he couldn’t afford to buy them for her. She wasn’t living a hard life with him.

The large hand on her head was warm and thick. Hu Yao lowered her head, a strange feeling surging in her heart.

He was always fierce with others, but occasionally, in his anger and frustration, there was a hint of helplessness and compromise. Sometimes, he was also very good.

People are complex, and he wasn’t all bad.

At least for her and Jiang Xiaochao, he was considered good. If he was truly cruel and vicious to her, she wouldn’t be sitting here peacefully. But to say that he was particularly good to her, that was hard to say. After all, they weren’t people who were truly fond of each other.

Perhaps it was because he had raised her for four years, and she had developed a habitual dependence on him. After her thoughts became clear, she understood their unspoken relationship very clearly. She was afraid of him, and she wanted to escape him, but deep down, she was also afraid that he would really abandon her. It was a contradictory and complex feeling.

“What are you spacing out for?” Jiang Han pulled her face, lifted her chin, and looked at the scratch that Xu Xuzhu had left. After two days, there was still a slight mark.

Now, whenever he saw that she was injured or had any marks on her body, he felt uncomfortable. Except for the ones he had made.

Originally, Hu Yao was sitting on the chair beside him. He pulled her closer and closer, and their distance became closer. He started by looking at her chin, but then he began to bite her lips, his big hand clasped around her neck, not allowing her to dodge.

Finally, he simply scooped her up and sat her on his lap, holding her in his arms.

He was always domineering and unrestrained towards her.

Hu Yao’s face was flushed red. It was night, and they were at home, but they were still in the courtyard, and the front door was open. If anyone passed by, they would be able to see them. She was still shy.

Jiang Han kissed her until he was full of fire, his muscles tense, holding her soft body. Seeing her flushed and rosy face, his eyes became even darker.

He picked her up and walked towards the house.

Hu Yao knew his look all too well now. Her face became even redder, and his hurried steps made her panic.

Fortunately, he hadn’t taken a few steps when Song Sike arrived.

Song Sikai lived alone, after his mother passed away, he spent every Mid-Autumn Festival drinking with others, never going home.

That day, he brought two bottles of wine to visit Jiang Han.

Jiang Han’s face was dark, he wasn’t welcoming him at all.

Hu Yao took the opportunity to run away, the blush on her face hadn’t faded, she enthusiastically went to fry two dishes for them to drink with.

Her happy and joyous demeanor made Jiang Han’s face even darker, he angrily spanked her twice, temporarily letting her go.

He even spanked her in front of Song Sikai. Hu Yao was annoyed, she couldn’t help but push him back and ran away.

“She’s getting bolder! She dares to…” Song Sikai didn’t see Jiang Han spank Hu Yao, but he saw Hu Yao push Jiang Han. He immediately widened his eyes and was unhappy. He thought Hu Yao had become sensible after she recovered, but it seemed she was still as “arrogant” as before!

“Shut up!” Jiang Han slapped him on the back of the head, displeased with his attitude towards Hu Yao: “Call her sister-in-law from now on.”
