Chapter 80
“Wanyuan.”
Qin Su was still a little worried. Tang Shi pushed her to the side. “Susu, if you’re worried, go over there and keep watch for us.”
“Okay.”
Qin Su knew she couldn’t stop the angry father and daughter. She was also afraid of being discovered, so she walked a little further away, nervously.
“Dad, leave it to me.”
Tang Wan held the stick and swung it down. Mao Goudan groaned in pain.
Before he could see who was in front of him, Tang Wan swung down again and knocked him unconscious.
The practiced movement made Tang Shi’s eyelids twitch. Did he feel like his daughter wasn’t doing this for the first time?
“Wanyuan.”
Seeing the complexity in Tang Shi’s eyes, Tang Wan felt a little embarrassed, but she didn’t regret it. She said,
“Dad, let’s take him to the big tree at the entrance of the village before it gets light.”
“Okay, Dad will listen to you.”
Tang Shi hardened his heart. This guy dared to bully his wife. He might do something even worse in the future.
If he wasn’t ruthless, he would be killed.
Tang Shi dragged Mao Goudan like a dead dog. Tang Wan quickly walked to Qin Su’s side.
“Mom, eat the things in the basket first. If you’re scared, go to the cowshed and wait for Dad to come back. Leave the rest to us.”
“Wanyuan, be careful.”
Qin Su didn’t stop her anymore. She was just worried that it wouldn’t be good for her daughter to be seen by others.
She was so fierce. She wondered if her son-in-law would dislike her.
“Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing.”
Tang Wan took a breakfast and quickly caught up with Tang Shi. Fortunately, there weren’t many people outside at this time. They could avoid people if they were careful.
When they reached the entrance of the village, Tang Wan went ahead to observe. There was no one around. They first stripped Mao Goudan of his clothes.
Then, they quickly tied him to the big tree at the entrance of the village.
After everything was done, Tang Wan and Tang Shi ran towards the foot of the mountain. They ran for a long distance before she handed Tang Shi the breakfast.
“Dad, you eat first. Mom must be scared. Go back and comfort her.”
“I know.”
Tang Shi wiped the warmth from the corner of his eye. “Wanyuan, go back quickly. Don’t stay here for long.”
He was still worried that his daughter would be suspected. If she was discovered, he would take the blame.
“Okay.”
Tang Wan agreed. She reminded him, “Mao Goudan is not a good person.
If he wakes up, he’ll definitely suspect you. Dad, you should pretend to be sick when you get back.”
Her mother was so weak. No one would suspect her.
“Don’t worry. I have a plan.”
Tang Shi’s eyes were full of ruthlessness. He dared to bully his wife. This was just the appetizer.
After sending him far away, Tang Wan took another basket out of her space.
Then, she carried the basket and took out her bicycle, pretending to have just arrived.
It was already seven o’clock, almost eight o’clock. There were more and more people in the village. When Tang Wan appeared, she saw a lot of people gathered around the big tree at the entrance of the village.
She looked curious and happened to see Xinghua standing on the outside.
“Xinghua, is your brigade having a meeting so early in the morning?”
“Comrade Tang.”
Xinghua awkwardly curled her lips. A blush appeared on her dark face.
“It’s one of our troublemakers. He always slacks off during work and runs to town all the time.
I don’t know what he did last night, but someone stripped him naked and tied him to the entrance of the village.”
She looked disgusted. Tang Wan felt a sense of satisfaction, but she still pretended to be surprised.
“Oh my god, he must have done something terrible. Otherwise, why would people hate him so much!”
“Who knows.”
Xinghua took a few steps back, afraid of getting her eyes dirty. Tang Wan could still faintly hear the villagers pointing and gossiping.
“Goudan is such a troublesome thing. He’s brought shame on us.”
“He must have harassed some woman. He was probably beaten up by her husband!”
“He got what he deserved. Look at him. He’s ugly and embarrassing!”
“…”
Tang Wan thought their words were also eye-catching. Just then, Xinghua asked her,
“Comrade Tang, didn’t you finish your cabinets yet?”
“Yes, yes. Uncle Mao’s craftsmanship is excellent. We all love them.”
Tang Wan winked playfully and lowered her voice to tell Xinghua,
“We have a sister-in-law who’s pregnant. I wanted to come over and trade some eggs with you.”
“My family has some.”
Xinghua said quickly. “Comrade Tang, come to my house and sit down. Don’t let this dirty business dirty your eyes.”
“Okay.”
Tang Wan also needed an excuse to stay in the brigade. This Goudan was a threat.
If he dared to slander her parents, she would make him see the world in a whole new light.
She met many villagers along the way. They all ran to the entrance of the village to watch the spectacle.
She followed Xinghua to her house. Everyone else had gone to watch the commotion, leaving Xinghua’s mother to clean up the dishes.
“Mom, this is Comrade Tang. She wants to trade some eggs for her pregnant sister-in-law.”
Xinghua gave her mother a look, and Xinghua’s mother understood. She quickly pulled Tang Wan inside.
“Comrade Tang, how many eggs do you want? If you don’t have enough, I’ll go to the brigade and trade some for you.”
“Not too many. Do you have twenty or thirty, Auntie?”
Tang Wan traded eggs just as an excuse. But the free-range eggs were more fragrant than the ones in her space mall. It was good to trade some.
“Yes, yes, yes.”
Xinghua’s mother excitedly went back to the house and brought out a basket. It contained twenty-five eggs.
She counted them one by one for Tang Wan. Tang Wan apologized, “Auntie, I don’t have any egg coupons. Can I pay one dime per egg?”
These free-range eggs were very fragrant. Even if they were a little more expensive, Tang Wan was willing to pay.
But Xinghua’s mother shook her head. “We trade for eggs in our brigade without coupons for eight cents. If you need more next time, come to me.”
She had saved up money to buy paper and pens for her grandson, so she was happy to trade with Tang Wan.
Hearing this, Tang Wan gave her one yuan and twenty-five cents, and a brown sugar ticket.
“I can’t let you lose money, Auntie.”
“You’re such a kind girl.”
Xinghua’s mother was very enthusiastic towards Tang Wan. Before Tang Wan left, she went to the yard and picked some greens and radishes for her to take back.
Tang Wan didn’t refuse. She was about to leave when Xinghua ran inside from outside. She took a big gulp of tea.
“What’s the hurry? Are you being chased by a ghost?”
Xinghua’s mother scolded her with a smile, her eyes full of affection. Xinghua gulped down a few mouthfuls of water.
“The barefoot doctor checked Goudan. He said his leg was broken. That troublesome thing is useless now. He insists that the people in the cowshed hurt him.
The brigade leader and the villagers don’t believe him. Those people in the cowshed are weak and frail. They can’t even beat me.”
She snorted disdainfully. Tang Wan was shocked. Xinghua’s mother also spat.
“Of course. He probably hit on someone else’s wife, and he got what he deserved.”
“Serves him right!”
Xinghua snorted, annoyed. “But Goudan’s parents believe him. They insisted on carrying Goudan to accuse the people in the cowshed.
The brigade doesn’t believe them. His mother started crying, making a scene, and even threatened to hang herself!”
