Chapter 87
“Ah?”
Tang Wan was truly shocked. This was something she never expected.
After all, Captain Cheng was so firm. Tang Wan thought he could control Cheng Xiaoyue, but…
“What happened?”
“She’s back to get married.”
Cuiying was furious. “I don’t know how she met Battalion Commander Duan.
My old Cheng probably doesn’t know about this yet. He’ll be furious when he comes back tonight.”
“This is really difficult.”
Tang Wan looked at Cuiying sympathetically. This younger sister wasn’t easy to deal with.
“I don’t know if she’s crazy.”
Cuiying frowned. “A young girl, she has to marry a divorced man with children.”
“He’s divorced?”
Tang Wan was shocked again. She couldn’t understand Cheng Xiaoyue’s actions either.
“Yes.”
Cuiying said dejectedly, “I don’t know the specific reason. All I know is that Battalion Commander Duan has two daughters.
She’ll be a stepmother as soon as she marries him. Life won’t be as good as she thinks.”
“She really is…”
Tang Wan and Cuiying were chatting when Cheng Xiaoyue suddenly appeared.
She walked briskly, with a smug smile on her face. “What are you two sisters-in-law talking about?
I’ll be a military wife soon too. I’ll treat you to wedding candy then.”
She deliberately raised her voice so that everyone in the family compound could hear her.
Cuiying’s face darkened. “Xiaoyue, your brother doesn’t know about this yet. You should discuss your marriage with your family.”
She’s spreading the news before it’s confirmed. This younger sister of hers is really stupid.
“It’s not your marriage. It’s my marriage.”
Cheng Xiaoyue rolled her eyes in disdain. “Nowadays, marriage is free. We don’t have arranged marriages anymore.
Don’t try to interfere with my marriage. I’ve decided to get married.”
She ran back to the yard and slammed the door shut. You’d think it was her house.
Cuiying held her throbbing forehead. She was so angry that she was in a bad mood.
“Sister Cuiying, don’t be angry. Why don’t you come to my house and calm down?”
Tang Wan supported Cuiying. After all, she was pregnant. She couldn’t just watch her get upset.
“Thank you, Sister Wanyuan. It’s a good thing my old Cheng isn’t on a mission with your Deputy Commander Lu this time.
Otherwise, when he comes back, his sister will be married. He’ll blame me for not stopping her.”
Cuiying walked into the yard with a worried expression. Tang Wan brought her a small stool to sit on.
Tang Zhou grabbed an earthworm and looked up at Tang Wan. “Sister, should we raise two chickens?
Wang Shengli catches earthworms for the chickens every day. He said that we’ll have eggs in a while.”
He didn’t even have time to play with him.
“Okay, I’ll go buy some chicks when I have time.”
Tang Wan took out a bunch of grapes. “I traded for these grapes on the way. Go wash some for Sister Cuiying.”
“No, no. Keep these precious things for yourselves.”
Cuiying felt a little embarrassed. She wished she hadn’t followed Tang Wan in. She didn’t want to take advantage of Tang Wan.
“You’re pregnant. Eat some grapes. It’s good for you. Your baby’s eyes will be as big as grapes.”
Tang Wan’s serious words made Cuiying stunned. She asked in surprise, “Is that really true?”
“Who knows.”
Tang Wan chuckled. Tang Zhou had already washed the grapes and came out. He said hesitantly,
“Sister, can I take some to eat with Shengli?”
“Of course.”
Tang Wan was happy that he had finally come out and made friends. She was happy to share her food with his friend.
So Tang Zhou took some grapes and skipped over to the next house. Cuiying sat for a while.
Seeing that Tang Wan was about to make lunch, she went home even though she didn’t like Cheng Xiaoyue.
She couldn’t stay and mooch off another lunch.
Tang Wan washed the grape seeds she had eaten and took them to plant in her space.
After she finished, she took some spinach from her space mall and some wild boar ribs.
She made braised ribs and stir-fried vegetables for lunch.
She had just prepared the ingredients when she heard the sound of the courtyard door opening. Tang Wan instinctively went out of the kitchen.
She saw Wang Shengli with red eyes, as if he had been crying. But his eyes were full of admiration when he looked at Tang Zhou.
“What’s wrong with Shengli?”
Tang Wan thought that Tang Zhou had beaten up Wang Shengli. Wang Shengli was about to speak, but Tang Zhou said,
“He accidentally tripped and fell. He’s so big, and he’s still crying.”
He frowned in disgust. Wang Shengli nodded sniffling. “It hurt when I fell to the ground.”
But Xu Heping pushed him.
He was pushed to the ground, and his knee hurt so badly.
Fortunately, Brother Zhou was there. Xu Heping got beaten up even worse by Brother Zhou.
Thinking about this, Wang Shengli wiped away his tears and pulled Tang Zhou’s hand with admiration.
“Brother Zhou, I won’t cry anymore.”
“I don’t like crybabies.”
Tang Zhou frowned in disgust. Wang Shengli quickly wiped away his tears and said confidently,
“I really won’t cry anymore.”
“Oh.”
Tang Zhou nodded coolly. The two children talking like adults made Tang Wan laugh.
She said, “Shengli, come inside and play.”
“No, my mother called me to eat.”
Wang Shengli waved his chubby hand and happily ran to the next house, as if his grievance was just an illusion.
Tang Wan: …
Sure enough, children’s emotions change so quickly.
“We’re having ribs for lunch.”
Tang Wan went back to the house and cooked. It was fragrant rice again. Tang Zhou washed his hands and sat down. He packed his rice and said,
“Sister, won’t we go bankrupt if we eat like this every day?”
The food was really good. He dared to bet that no one in the family compound ate as well as they did, except for their family.
He had also seen others eating coarse bread.
“Don’t think too much, kid.”
Tang Wan took a bite of the ribs. Mmm, it’s delicious. The meat was cooked just right.
Hearing this, Tang Zhou didn’t say anything else. He quickly ate his food. After he finished, he actively washed the dishes and cleaned the kitchen.
Tang Wan didn’t argue with him. She closed the door and went into her space to work.
She was working hard when she suddenly heard Qiu Dazhao’s loud voice outside.
“Tang Zhou, you little bastard, get out here!”
“Tang Wan, how did you teach your brother? Look at my grandson. He’s been beaten up!”
“…”
Tang Wan came out of her space and opened the door. She saw Tang Zhou with a sullen look.
“Sister.”
“What happened?”
Tang Wan believed that her brother wouldn’t bully anyone without a reason, but she still needed to know what happened.
Hearing this, Tang Zhou clenched his fists. “Xu Heping grabbed Shengli’s grapes and pushed him down.
I couldn’t hold back and beat him up. Sister, don’t worry. I was very careful. You won’t see any injuries.”
Tang Wan: …
He was so smart at such a young age. He was really her brother.
“Don’t worry. Leave it to me.”
Tang Wan reached up and rubbed Tang Zhou’s hair. Her brother was still a child after all.
When Tang Wan came out of the main room, she saw Qiu Dazhao jumping and yelling.
“Oh, heavens! I can’t live anymore…”
