Chapter 92
“Actually, I know all this, I just couldn’t control myself.”
Xu Cuiying said embarrassedly, “I’m fine now, I see you’re going to town? Go ahead and get busy, I’ll just rest for a while.”
“Okay, if you need anything, just shout, most people in the courtyard are kind-hearted.”
Tang Wan knew that people in this era were simple, Qiu Dazhao and Cheng Xiaoyue were the exceptions.
Xu Cuiying agreed and Tang Wan rode her bicycle out of the courtyard with peace of mind.
She first went to Mao Zhuang Brigade. Sister-in-law Xinghua was about to give birth, and Xinghua’s mother asked her to buy some brown sugar, red dates, and pig trotters.
Tang Wan got all of these directly from the space mall. As soon as she entered Mao Zhuang Brigade, she saw everyone working in the fields.
It was the season when the corn was ripe. The women were breaking corn in the fields, while the men were carrying the corn to the threshing ground.
There were also some elderly and young people breaking corn kernels at the threshing ground.
During the harvest season, the people from the cowshed worked alongside everyone else. Tang Wan saw Tang Shi carrying a load of corn.
Qin Su was busy among the crowd. Seeing that they both looked in good spirits, Tang Wan felt relieved and headed towards Xinghua’s mother’s house.
When she arrived, Xinghua’s mother was already waiting for her in the courtyard. Seeing her, she smiled from ear to ear.
“I was just talking about you, Tang, you came just in time, my daughter-in-law gave birth to a big fat grandson last night!”
“Then congratulations to you, Auntie.”
Tang Wan parked her bicycle in her courtyard. She was genuinely happy about the arrival of the newborn.
“It’s full of blood, I won’t invite you to see it.”
Xinghua’s mother was in a great mood, and Tang Wan didn’t mind the small details. She handed the basket to Xinghua’s mother.
It contained one pound of brown sugar, one pound of red dates, and four pig trotters.
“I found someone to exchange them according to what you asked for, Auntie.”
“Tang, you’ve never been wrong about the things you exchange. Thank you first, Auntie.”
Xinghua’s mother was very satisfied. She lowered her voice and said to Tang Wan, “I’ve also prepared the things you like. Wait a moment, I’ll put them away and we’ll go take a look.”
She went to the kitchen first, tidied up the things her daughter-in-law needed for confinement, and then mysteriously took Tang Wan to their backyard.
In the backyard, there were saplings she had already chosen for her, including loquat saplings, jujube saplings, walnut saplings, mulberry saplings, and cherry saplings.
“For now, I can only get these in the brigade. You know the brigade is strict, otherwise, people wouldn’t be allowed to plant too many fruit trees privately.”
“I know, thank you, Auntie.”
Tang Wan was creating a fruit orchard in her space. In the future, she would have whatever she wanted to eat.
Besides that, because Tang Wan gave her so much, Xinghua’s mother also gave Tang Wan a lot of vegetable seeds.
Tang Wan naturally wouldn’t refuse, she happily accepted them, “Thank you, Auntie.”
“I should be thanking you.”
Xinghua’s mother looked at the several small fish in the hall with reluctance, and took one to give to Tang Wan.
“This is what her father caught in the river last night, take one back to eat.”
“No, no.”
Tang Wan hurriedly refused. They had someone in confinement, so they needed to eat fish.
Tang Wan naturally didn’t take it, but thinking about the fish in the river, her eyes lit up.
She had been secretly digging a fish pond in her space lately. She could take advantage of the darkness and go to the river to catch some fish and river water.
Thinking this, Tang Wan didn’t linger at Xinghua’s house. She said a few words to Xinghua’s mother and quickly rode her bicycle away.
As soon as she left Mao Zhuang Brigade, she put the saplings into her space.
She first went to the post office to mail the new article she had written and bought another set of stamps.
Thinking of the treasures she had found last time, Tang Wan decided to go to the scrap recycling station again.
As she passed by the state-owned restaurant, she saw Chunli coming out. Peng Cai was following behind her.
“Chunli, I know I was wrong, just forgive me.”
“My uncle makes me do the hardest work every day. Look at my hands, they don’t look like a girl’s hands at all.”
Peng Cai’s words made Chunli pause. She said angrily, “All the workers at the sugar factory do this. Why can’t you do it if they can? Do you think you’re more noble than them or something?”
Chunli was simple but not stupid. Plus, her family had been constantly reminding her, so her relationship with Peng Cai wasn’t good now.
Peng Cai pouted in grievance and mumbled, “Then you don’t have to do it?”
“I work for the trade union, of course I don’t have to do these things.”
Chunli was speechless. She glanced up and saw Tang Wan passing by, and quickly ran over with a bright smile.
“Tang, what a coincidence.”
“It is a coincidence, are you working today?”
Tang Wan smiled back kindly, which made Peng Cai, not far away, angry.
Clearly, she and Chunli were best friends, why didn’t Chunli believe her now but believed others?
“Because today is the day to get our rationed grain, so we have the day off.”
Chunli’s family was well-off, so she didn’t have to worry about getting rationed grain, so she had time to go out and stroll.
Tang Wan suddenly understood. No wonder she said there were so few people on the streets today. They were all lining up to get their rationed grain.
Seeing them chatting happily, Peng Cai couldn’t help but squeeze in, afraid that Tang Wan would steal Chunli away.
“Chunli, let’s go for another walk.”
“No, I’m tired.”
Chunli refused her. In front of Peng Cai, she didn’t say much to Tang Wan either. They exchanged glances and understood each other’s meaning.
It seemed that Chunli was worried that Peng Cai would resent her. She was truly a kind girl.
Thinking this, Tang Wan walked all the way to the scrap recycling station. It was still the same old man from last time.
Seeing it was Tang Wan, he only lifted his eyelids slightly, his tone was very bland.
“Same rules.”
“Okay, Grandpa!”
Tang Wan smiled and took out a juicy pear from her basket, using it as cover, and placed it on the table next to the old man.
“Grandpa, have a sweet treat.”
There weren’t many people at the door right now. Tang Wan quickly walked inside. Watching her back, the old man couldn’t help but chuckle. He casually picked up the pear on the table, then wiped it with his sleeve and took a bite.
Hmm, sweet enough.
Later, when the little girl comes out, I’ll give her something to play with.
Tang Wan didn’t know the old man’s thoughts. The things inside weren’t from the same batch as last time.
There weren’t many people, it seemed that others had already picked through them. But since she was already here, Tang Wan still squatted down and carefully searched.
The tables and chairs were broken and dilapidated. She picked out some high school textbooks. Then, her eyes fell on a smoking pipe.
The pipe looked old, even a bit rusty, but Tang Wan felt that it wasn’t simple.
She picked up the pipe and examined it carefully. She lifted off the iron cover on top, and the next second, she gasped.
This wasn’t an ordinary smoking pipe!
The mottled marks were all camouflage. The pipe was made entirely of jade, it seemed to be a jade flute?
Unfortunately, she didn’t know much about this. Tang Wan quickly put it into her space, using the tables and chairs as cover.
It wouldn’t be easy to explain if the old man saw it. Besides that, Tang Wan didn’t find anything else of value for now.
She carried a stack of books to the door, “Grandpa, how much do I owe you?”
“Not much of a haul today?”
The old man glanced at her and took out a dusty thing from under the table.
“Do you like this?”
