Wen Ze said confidently, “Yes, that’s possible. You see, if we change the colors of the threads, it naturally forms a pattern.”
“Right now, there are only two horizontal sticks here, which is the simplest weaving frame. If we space them properly and add a few more at different positions, then raise the sticks according to some pattern, it will create a different design.”
“Of course, this is just an idea. If I were to apply it, I definitely wouldn’t be able to calculate it correctly. If you’re interested, you can try it yourself.”
“Patterns like grids or diamonds…” Wen Ze picked up a stick and casually drew on the ground beside him. “These patterns are pretty easy to weave.”
Although his explanation was not clear, somehow a half-beastman understood him.
“I think I understand what you mean. I’ll think about it next time I weave.”
After weaving for a little longer, Bai Ling, who was itching to try, couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, “Wen Ze, can I give it a try?”
“Sure.” He happily exchanged seats with Bai Ling. Seeing the others looking regretful for not asking first, he smiled and said, “Let’s form a line. Everyone can take a turn. If you don’t understand something, feel free to ask me.”
The half-beastmen then smiled and said, “Okay!”
Wen Ze wasn’t worried at all that they wouldn’t get the hang of it. Even Yin He, that awkward kid, can now weave decently.
But what he didn’t expect was that they would learn it so quickly. The fabric they made was neat and even, and their weaving speed was surprisingly fast.
The sticks and the weaving frame seemed to blur as they moved it!
Wen Ze was stunned.
The refined and handsome Bai Ling wove for a while, then raised his head to humbly ask Wen Ze, “Am I doing this right?”
Wen Ze gave him a thumbs-up, “You’ve mastered it.”
Just as Bai Ling smiled, another half-beastman reached out and said, “My turn! Let me try the weaving frame!”
He reluctantly gave up his spot. Weaving for just a while wasn’t enough to satisfy him, so he quickly gathered a few half-beastmen and went out to chop some wood to make their own weaving frame.
After everyone had enthusiastically tried out the weaving frame, suddenly, the sky cleared up and the sun came out, making everything feel warm.
The half-beastmen didn’t leave immediately. Instead, they found places to sit after brushing the raindrops off the grass leaves.
Some were spinning, some were making frames, some were weaving. They chatted as they worked, creating a harmonious and joyful atmosphere.
Wen Ze had already used up his hemp thread and didn’t rush to replenish it. Instead, he brought out the clay pot he used for soaking starch, poured out the impurities, and replaced it with clean water.
Seeing his actions, everyone asked curiously, “What are you doing?”
Wen Ze repeated what he had explained to Yin He and Zhuo Mu yesterday.
When the half-beastmen heard this, they shook their heads and said, “So this… starch? It takes two or three days to finish? That’s too much trouble.”
“If the gray-gray roots go bad, just throw them away. There are plenty more outside.”
“I agree. It’s too much work.”
“Wen Ze, when I go home, I’ll bring you half a basket of roots later.”
Wen Ze smiled and didn’t explain to them how useful starch was. He just simply said, “We’re not short of roots at home. I’m just finding something to do.”
“Alright then.”
The next day, the half-beastmen returned. By now, most of them had learned how to weave, and some had even figured out simple patterns. But they still liked staying here and worked together with everyone.
The rain wasn’t as heavy as before. Zhuo Mu went hunting every day, while Yin He ran off to the tribe to find other kids to play with. The half-beastmen, meanwhile, felt very comfortable here.
That day, the starch was ready. Taking advantage of the sunny weather, Wen Ze laid it out to dry.
Then he chopped out a rectangular piece of wood and walked over to the crowd and sat down.
Bai Ling noticed and asked curiously, “What are you doing?”
Wen Ze replied, “I’m thinking of making some improvements to the weaving frame. Let me think it out.”
He held the board and thought quietly.
Hearing his words, everyone paused their work for a moment and began whispering to each other.
“The weaving frame is already so fast—can it really be improved?”
“My father and I wove together, and in just two days, we had enough fabric to make a whole outfit! I never dared to imagine this speed before.”
“How would he even improve it?”
They were afraid of missing something and stared at Wen Ze.
Wen Ze felt the pressure and explained with a smile, “This isn’t meant to make weaving faster. Look at this stick,” he pointed to the wooden stick at the front of the weaving frame that everyone was pushing with their feet. “The threads need to be arranged and wrapped around it. But since it’s not secure, you have to keep it tight. If it shifts even a little, the threads will get messed up.”
Bai Ling suddenly understood. “So, you’re trying to secure the threads?”
Wen Ze nodded. “Yes, something like that.”
He raised the wooden board in his hand. “I’m thinking of carving a row of teeth into this, like a wooden comb. But the gaps need to be closer together, and the top and bottom must be closed.”
The beastmen also used combs, so they quickly understood what he meant.
Wen Ze’s main concern now was tools. The bone knife wasn’t sharp enough and likely wouldn’t meet what he wanted.
Sigh, this is the hundredth time he missed the modern tools.
“I see…” Bai Ling raised his hand, and Wen Ze saw a sharp claw appear at the tip of his finger with a flash. “I’m a bird-like beastman, so I can change my fingers into claws. Want me to try?”
Wen Ze was stunned. That’s possible?!
How could he forget? In this world, everyone’s claws and teeth are quite sharp!
Other half-beastmen also raised their hands. “Wen Ze, I’m a cat half-beastman! My claws are quite useful as well!”
“I can help too. I’m a bear half-beastman.”
“…”
Just like that, Wen Ze told everyone about the distance between the teeth and reminded them to make it as even as possible, and everyone rushed to work.
They used bird claws, bear claws, and then cat claws to tidy things up…
Wood shavings scattered everywhere, and soon, they created a very rough but functional piece.
Wen Ze finally checked it, and under everyone’s nervous gaze, he couldn’t help but smile. “Not bad, not bad at all!”
“That’s great!” everyone cheered. “Let’s try it out quickly!”
The newly made teeth worked well. The half-beastmen added the teeth in front of the spindle, securing them with a double stick, so there was almost no worry about the threads getting tangled.
Once Wen Ze confirmed that they had all learned everything, they took on the responsibility of “teaching the rest of the tribe how to weave.”
Everyone was looking forward to it. In every household of the half-beastmen who could weave, beastmen, half-beastmen, and even young ones gathered to join in.
With so many people, the cave was not only dark, but it was also difficult to breathe.
They followed Zhuo Mu’s example and built a straw shelter in the open space at the foot of the mountain, where they taught and weaved.
When talking about Wen Ze, everyone said, “This child is very down-to-earth. There is so much clay in the tribe that could be used for making pottery, but he only took some red clay.”
“I don’t know what kind of pottery he wants to make. Can pottery be used to build a house?”
“Is that possible? Pottery is so brittle.”
“I’ve also seen houses made of stones. Not only do they leak, but they’re also prone to collapsing. I don’t understand why this child wants to build a house.”
“Forget it. Let’s wait and see when he builds it. If he can’t manage it, he’ll give up.”
“That reminds me, the tribe has gone hunting these days, right? Did they give him any meat?”
“Yes, they did. Zhuo Mu took it back for him.”

After that, the tribe started a wave of weaving. Wen Ze also made another piece of cloth and made himself a durable pair of pants.
Noticing that Yin He wasn’t playing outside much, Wen Ze asked him why. Yin He pouted and answered, “Qin Shu and the others are all at home weaving cloth! They said they need clothes to wear!”
“I actually saw the cloth his brother wove. It’s made of two kinds of hemp threads and has a checkered pattern. It looks pretty nice.”
After saying that, Yin He looked at Wen Ze eagerly.
Wen Ze piled up the cleaned pottery bowls and put them aside. He wiped the stove with a rag made of scraps and said with a smile, “Why are you looking at me like that?.”
Yin He immediately puffed up his cheeks like a little bear, “Oh.”
Wen Ze let out a hearty laugh.
Zhuo Mu came over with an open cloth bag and asked Wen Ze, “The starch is all dry, do you want to put it away?”
Wen Ze’s eyes lit up and he quickly reached out, “Let me take a look.”
He took it and squeezed through the cloth bag. It was indeed dried!
“Two big baskets of gray roots, and we only got half a bag of starch. Tsk,” Wen Ze mumbled.
Yin He was very curious about the starch and poked his head over, “Brother, how do you eat this? Do we cook it into porridge?”
“…You’re too extravagant. Wait until tomorrow, I’ll make something tasty with this, and then you’ll know.”
Zhuo Mu said, “That reminds me, the tribe is organizing a group to gather some things tomorrow.”
Wen Ze nodded. “Yes, someone told me. But I don’t know what they’ll gather.”
He lifted up his slightly longer hair, revealing his full forehead, and asked Zhuo Mu, “Is my injury completely healed?”
Zhuo Mu glanced at his forehead and eyes, giving a brief “Hmm” in response.
Wen Ze grinned, “That’s great!”
This meant he could move freely and join the tribe in their activities! He could also begin gathering materials for building a house!
The cave was just too damp; he was really starting to feel like he might mold.
The next day, he got up very early.
Having crossed over, it was his first time going to gather with the tribe, and he was very excited and full of anticipation.
After breakfast, he checked his tools, put on two large baskets, and headed deeper into the inner part of the tribe.
Suddenly, he heard footsteps behind him and turned to look. Zhuo Mu, dressed in freshly washed clothes, approached him.
“Are you going hunting?” Wen Ze asked.
“Yes,” Zhuo Mu answered, “Are you all gathering by the altar?”
“Mm.” Wen Ze nodded.
Wen Ze was handsome with a slim build. He had short black hair and was carrying a basket that was large enough to fit him. His dark, dog-like eyes were as clear as a calm lake.
“I’m going that way too. Let me carry you.”
The image of his massive and frightening beast form, which had once made him faint, flashed through Wen Ze’s mind. He hesitated, “This… this doesn’t seem right…”
“The path is difficult,” Zhuo Mu said, giving him a deep look. He suddenly changes into a fifty-meter-long, pure white giant python!
A shadow fell over him. Wen Ze opened his mouth slightly, looked up at the giant python’s red eyes. It was as if all the blood in his body had turned to ice.
His long fingers tightened around the basket’s rope, and he didn’t dare to move.
Fortunately, the giant python quickly lay flat, with its head, as big as the front of a car, touching the ground.
It didn’t flick its tongue but calmly said, “Come up.”
