Tan Yiliang and Tan Erqian took two steps, which turned into one, walking over to Xiao Qiyue’s side. Seeing that she was fine, they quickly looked up at the shocked and trembling Wan Chunmei and said, “Mother, sister is fine, sister is fine.”
Although Xiao Qiyue was not Wan Chunmei’s biological daughter, from the moment Wan Chunmei fed her the first drop of milk, she truly regarded her as her own daughter.
At that moment, her legs were still weak.
She couldn’t imagine what her expression would be like if this child had fallen.
Old Tan also breathed a sigh of relief and turned to look at the now calmer Liu Shi, his face turning serious as he said, “Liu Yejun! You nearly caused my daughter’s death, I’m taking you to the authorities!”
Liu Shi, feeling somewhat guilty, but still holding up her facade, put her hands on her hips, puffed out her chest, and spoke with a defiant expression, “Old Tan family, don’t spout nonsense! Which of your eyes saw me cause your daughter to fall?!”
Tan Yiliang raised his head and said, “We all saw it!”
Liu Shi shot him a glance and sneered, “So you’re saying it’s true? Did you not see this little girl just fine? Is your family trying to conspire together to slander me?”
“You woman, you’re truly unreasonable!” Old Tan was furious and was about to take action.
Wan Chunmei grabbed his arm, stopping him, and turned to shout at Tan Yiliang, “Go, bring your younger siblings inside.”
“Yes, mother!” Tan Yiliang responded loudly, quickly taking Tan Erqian and Tan Sanyuan with him.
Realizing she had caused trouble, Liu Shi turned around, planning to sneak away.
Without saying a word, Wan Chunmei spun around and rushed over, grabbing Liu Shi by the back of her head and yanking her hair backward.
Although Wan Chunmei wasn’t large in stature, her strength was considerable.
With one powerful yank, Liu Shi cried out in pain, “Let go, let go!”
But Wan Chunmei pulled even harder, as if trying to tear off her scalp, and shouted fiercely, “Usually, we tolerate you because we don’t want to lower ourselves to your level! But today, you dared to bully my daughter—don’t blame us for being rude!”
Liu Shi, who was the type to bully the weak and fear the strong, clutched her hair while screaming, “Someone help! The Old Tan family is attacking! Help me!”
However, today was strange. It was still early in the morning, yet not a single villager was to be seen on the muddy road.
Even the neighbor, Aunt Chen, seemed to be away from home.
It could only be said that Liu Shi was simply out of luck.
In her younger years, Wan Chunmei was far fiercer than Liu Shi. When it came to fighting, she was both ruthless and accurate, delivering two slaps with precision.
The force of the slaps left Liu Shi’s cheeks swollen and her head buzzing.
Liu Shi stopped yelling, stunned, and stared blankly at Wan Chunmei.
Wan Chunmei raised her foot and kicked her in the rear, shouting, “Get out of here! Get out!”
Liu Shi, who already had a broad frame, lost her balance from the kick and fell straight to the ground.
Although she felt humiliated, she knew she couldn’t take on both of them. Scrambling, she quickly got up and ran off, but not without shouting, “You all better wait for me!”
Wan Chunmei picked up a stone and threw it at her.
Liu Shi jumped to the side, and the stone missed.
Old Tan still wanted to chase after her, but was stopped by Wan Chunmei. “No need to chase her. People like that will get what they deserve.”
Though Old Tan was still furious, he didn’t dare defy his wife and gritted his teeth, holding back his anger.
Wan Chunmei pulled him into the house. “Come on, today is Sanyuan have finally returned. Don’t neglect him.”
“Alright.” Old Tan’s expression lightened considerably.
The couple supported each other as they entered the house.
After leaving the Old Tan family’s home, Liu Shi touched her burning face, already cursing Wan Chunmei in her heart.
Today, she was outnumbered, but if it were another time, she would never have fled in such a sorry state.
Perhaps it was her impatience.
As she walked, distracted by her anger, she didn’t notice a large stone in her path. She tripped, falling face-first into the dirt.
There just happened to be a sharp stone on the ground. As Liu Shi fell, the stone stabbed directly into her eye.
“Ah!”
A painful scream echoed through the sky.
Liu Shi’s eye erupted with blood, a gruesome sight to behold.
Perhaps the pain was too much—soon after, she passed out.
Meanwhile, the Old Tan family remained oblivious, having long since forgotten their earlier displeasure, now fully immersed in the joy of their third child’s recovery.
“Sanyuan, did Doctor Li really say that your illness is cured?” Old Tan asked as he served him more food.
“Yes, Doctor Li said I no longer need medicine, so there’s no need for you to send copper coins anymore.” Tan Sanyuan, with great courtesy, ate the food Old Tan offered him, chewing slowly. He didn’t act like a typical country child; there was even a hint of refinement about him.
Old Tan was overjoyed, taking a few bites of his rice. “Good, good, truly wonderful. Recently, it seems we’ve had nothing but good news! Not only has your second brother stopped being foolish, but now your illness is also cured.”
Tan Yiliang, sitting nearby, chuckled and said, “Yes, Father, does this mean our good days are finally arriving?”
Old Tan took a sip of his clear soup and smiled. “What do you mean, ‘finally arriving’? We just need to live our lives honestly and steadily.”
“Yes, Father!” Tan Yiliang responded, then turned to Tan Sanyuan, “Does this mean you’ll be living at home from now on?”
Tan Sanyuan nodded. “Yes, that’s right.”
Tan Yiliang was overjoyed and grinned. “That’s great! We’ll all be living together again!”
