Chapter 148: A Dog’s Collar
It wasn’t clear whether Jiang Han’s cooking skills had improved, or if her sense of taste hadn’t fully recovered from her illness, or if she was simply too hungry, but she found the noodles weren’t that bad, and even tasted quite good.
She quickly finished Jiang Xiaochao’s bowl of noodles.
Jiang Xiaochao was initially very happy that Hu Yao’s illness had truly healed after taking the medicine. But then, watching her eat his disliked noodles with gusto, he furrowed his brow in doubt and confusion.
“Really good, Mom?”
Hu Yao took a sip of water, holding the cup, glanced at Jiang Han, who was also waiting for her answer, and nodded. “It’s delicious.”
He had been taking care of her while she was sick, putting everything else aside, watching over her every step, not getting a good night’s sleep, and his eyes had faint, obvious dark circles.
She glanced at him again, a familiar, subtle strangeness rising in her heart.
“Eat your fill before taking your medicine.” He naturally reached out and touched her forehead, feeling it was still a bit hot, his brow furrowed again.
“I’m much better, I don’t need to take it, it’ll get better on its own.” Hu Yao stroked her bulging belly.
“Bull crap, I don’t look at you for two minutes and you’re lying there saying you’re going to die! I don’t want to find a cold body beside me in the morning!” Jiang Han looked at her with displeasure.
Hu Yao frowned, having no idea if she ever said such a thing.
He hadn’t slept much these past few nights watching over her, how could he not know if she was cold as he said, he was just saying it.
“Finish your medicine and go back to sleep, wrap up tight.” He nagged a bit.
Her hands were still a bit cold.
This cold and hot, she was truly something else.
Jiang Han finished the noodles she couldn’t finish in two bites, held her hand, and instructed.
“I don’t really feel like sleeping right now.” Hu Yao grabbed Jiang Xiaochao’s small hand.
She had been lying in bed these past few days, either sleeping or sleeping, now that she had just woken up, how could she possibly sleep.
“What, you want to go herd cattle in the middle of the night?” Jiang Han glanced at her.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll go herd the cows with Mom.” Before Hu Yao could respond, Jiang Xiaochao chimed in.
Hu Yao had been sick these past few days, Jiang Xiaochao had also stayed at home all day, not herding cows for many days.
He hadn’t even tried taking his little cow out at night.
Now that Hu Yao was better, they could go out together to herd the little cow, how fun it would be.
“You go by yourself, go now! Don’t bring your mother along!” Jiang Han was annoyed at the sight of him.
Hu Yao had even finished the noodles he cooked for him, this brat was really spoiled by her kindness, she always picked on him, he was getting more and more arrogant these past few days without her beating him.
“I want to go with Mom.” Jiang Xiaochao hummed, sticking his little face against Hu Yao’s arm, looking very dependent and soft.
Jiang Han pulled him away, threw him into the yard, letting him stay with the cows and dogs tonight, he could herd cows or dogs as he pleased.
Hu Yao pulled him back, gently coaxing him to go wash and sleep: “Mom will go herd cows with you tomorrow, okay?”
“Daddy is very tired, let’s let Daddy have a good rest.” When she spoke to him, she lowered her voice.
Jiang Xiaochao glanced at Jiang Han’s figure washing dishes in the kitchen, and obediently nodded.
“Daddy, I’m not going to herd cows anymore~” He raised his voice and shouted at Jiang Han.
“I’ll go take a bath and go to sleep, Daddy go to sleep too, Mommy said you’re very tired.” He spoke softly.
Jiang Han paused, raising an eyebrow: “You know, why don’t you go wash up.”
“I know, okay.” Jiang Xiaochao pouted.
Jiang Han leisurely washed the last dish, closed the door, and strode back to the room.
The one who said she didn’t want to sleep was now being very obedient, lying in bed pretending to be asleep.
Thinking of what Jiang Fu-chao said, his mood inexplicably improved.
She also knew she was a handful, knew he was tired.
“Not sleepy?”
“I’m sleepy now.” Hu Yao mumbled, shifting closer to the inside, avoiding his hand that was reaching for her.
Jiang Han effortlessly pulled her back, half hugging her, in a good mood: “What are you moving for?”
“Sleepy, go to sleep, don’t disturb me, I’m not tired, you are.” He said.
Hu Yao looked at him, then lowered her eyes, oh-ed, and obediently nestled in his arms, not moving.
Before he turned off the lights, she suddenly thought.
“Didn’t you take a bath?”
“As if you did.” Jiang Han snorted, deliberately grabbing her hand tighter.
“I haven’t showered for days, did I disgust you? You’re about to go sour, I didn’t even complain about you, how dare you complain about me! What are you being picky about.”
Hu Yao: “…”
He sounded like he made sense.
But she didn’t shower because she was sick and had a fever, how was that the same as him, it was summer now, didn’t he feel suffocated? He was so afraid of the heat.
She asked him to go shower, just wanted him to be more comfortable, but he always overthought, thinking she was disgusted.
“Where did this come from?” Hu Yao raised her hand, pointed at the old red string on her wrist, and asked him softly, changing the subject.
She was delirious from her illness, she heard him rummaging through things, she also felt him put something on her, and when she woke up she found a red string on her wrist.
The red string was woven in a rather intricate pattern, it was obvious that someone had worn it before, and it had been a long time.
“It was for dogs before.” He glanced at it, his tone casual.
Hu Yao pursed her lips, looking at him in frustration, not believing him.
“Aren’t you sleepy? Go to sleep.” He pressed her head back down in his arms, her fever had just subsided, he still covered her tightly with the blanket.
Hu Yao wanted to say something, but seeing his tired appearance, she pursed her lips and said nothing.
He was indeed tired, after turning off the lights, he hugged her tightly–>>
She was about to fall asleep.
Above her head was his steady, slightly heavy breathing. Hu Yao looked up, watching him silently in the darkness.
The moonlight was hazy and faint, casting a pale glow on him as he slept on the outside.
He hadn’t shaved for a few days, and his stubble had grown out.
She had previously complained that his stubble pricked her, and he had mischievously rubbed against her on purpose. But when he saw that she was really hurt by his rubbing, he, the perpetrator, was unhappy. His temper was very unpredictable.
She unconsciously reached out and touched his face.
As soon as she moved, he sensed it immediately. He didn’t wake up, but subconsciously patted her in his arms and then checked her forehead temperature.
“What’s wrong?”
His low, magnetic voice still had a hint of sleepiness, husky and lazy, with an inexplicable, rare, unreal gentleness.
He seemed like a very fierce person, but after being with him for so long, Hu Yao discovered that he was unexpectedly good-tempered in many ways.
For example, even if she woke him up in the middle of the night, he wouldn’t really be impatient or get angry about it.
His true anger and fury were very different from his usual fierce demeanor. Now, Hu Yao vaguely understood some of his temperaments.
He had a lot of words that seemed to dislike her and Jiang Xiaochao, but his actions were completely different. He was a hypocrite.
Hu Yao shook her head gently and hugged his hand: “I’m fine, go to sleep.”
