“Beyond the Boundaries” Chapter 78

Chapter 78: A sleepless night

“I made a mistake. I should have said I was out with a friend.”

Shuangxu regretted it too late and quickly said, “It’s just that I had some things piled up that I haven’t dealt with for a while. I’ve finished them now and I’m going back.”

“Then I’ll wait for you here,” Shen Yu said. “Drive carefully.”

This was too unlucky!

Shuangxu had a headache and didn’t dare to delay for a second. She hung up the phone, hurriedly tidied up her clothes, and glanced back.

He Tingzhou was leaning back on the sofa. From Shuangxu’s angle, she could see his Adam’s apple, a sharp protrusion, as he tilted his head back. His bony hands were hanging outside the armrest.

Shuangxu said, “My brother came to bring me soup. I have to go home.”

He Tingzhou heard the content of her phone call, lifted his eyelids to glance at her, leaned his head back, and pulled a pillow to put on his lap.

The ceiling light shone down, his pupils were as black as ink, but they were dull and lifeless.

The distance from Yanxi to the East Third Ring Road was not short. When Shuangxu returned to No. 9 Songming Road, it was forty minutes later.

The night was deep, Shen Yu’s car was still parked downstairs.

She ran over, Shen Yu handed her the thermos with chicken soup, and had some opinions about her working hard until late at night.

“You ran out last night, and you’re busy until so late today. Your brother hasn’t gone bankrupt yet, you don’t need to work so hard.”

Shuangxu didn’t dare to say a word, and listened to him quietly.

“Start a business, but don’t wear yourself out.”

“I know, I won’t be so late next time.”

“You’re good at flattering.” Shen Yu smiled and rubbed her hair, then added, “Ginseng is hot in nature, so don’t drink it so late. Get up tomorrow morning and cook a bowl of noodles, eat it and then go to work.”

Shuangxu nodded, watched him drive away, and then went upstairs with the thermos.

She put the chicken soup in the refrigerator, lay down on the bed, and everything was quiet. He Tingzhou’s indifferent face popped up in her mind.

She was so dazed by the kiss that she didn’t notice it. Now that she thought about it, he must have gotten aroused.

He was interrupted halfway, he must have been very disappointed.

Shuangxu turned over, pressed her still hot ears against the pillow, and closed her eyes.

The next day happened to be the regular meeting at Yun Shield.

After the liquid hydrogen storage tank issue was resolved, the progress of the drone was accelerated, and the first test flight was expected to take place in mid-next month.

He Tingzhou was absent from the meeting as usual. After the meeting, Shuangxu was packing up to leave when Xu Zhen pushed the door open, politely nodded to her and said, “Ms. Song, Mr. He asked you to go to his office after the meeting. He wants to discuss the drone test flight arrangements with you in person.”

Xiao Liao followed Shuangxu and wanted to go up together. On the one hand, she was used to it, and on the other hand, she naturally liked to see handsome guys.

Xu Zhen pressed He Tingzhou’s private elevator and blocked the door with his hand, inviting Shuangxu to enter. Xiao Liao raised her foot to step in, but Xu Zhen stopped her resolutely but gently.

“Mr. He’s conversation with Ms. Song may last until noon. Mr. He is worried that Ms. Liao will be waiting anxiously, so he specially sent a car to take you back.”

He was completely business-like, so formal that Shuangxu was embarrassed to suspect that He Tingzhou was taking the opportunity to do something for her.

Xiao Liao, who had a simple mind, was simply surprised: “Mr. He sent a car to take me? What have I done to deserve this?”

Xu Zhen smiled and invited her into another elevator: “Ms. Liao, please come with me.”

Xiao Liao followed him with a dreamy look on her face.

The elevator door closed, and Shuangxu arrived at the top floor by herself. The secretaries in the president’s office were working in an orderly manner, and they greeted her when they saw her: “Ms. Song.”

Shuangxu nodded in response and walked to the door of He Tingzhou’s office. She knocked twice.

A lazy voice came from inside: “Come in.”

Shuangxu pushed the door open and found him sleeping on the sofa, his long legs crossed on the armrest, with a comfortable pillow behind his back.

His tie was loose, the button on his collar was undone, and he was lying there looking sleepy. He didn’t even open his eyes when he heard Shuangxu’s footsteps.

Why was he always sleepy in broad daylight, taking a nap openly in the company.

“Didn’t you sleep well last night?” Shuangxu asked.

“I didn’t sleep,” He Tingzhou said.

He didn’t sleep all night… what was he doing?

After she left, did he call someone else over?

Shuangxu was stunned for a moment, because of this possibility, she suddenly felt like she was splashed with a basin of ice water, freezing from head to toe.

She knew very well that the relationship between her and He Tingzhou was that she needed him, so he could demand her “fidelity”, but she had no right to demand that he not touch other women.

He could find someone else to satisfy his desires that he couldn’t satisfy with her. He was He Tingzhou, he didn’t need to compromise himself in this kind of thing.

It was just a little disgusting.

She left, and immediately replaced by another woman, which made her feel like a cheap prostitute.

Maybe, it was the same thing to him.

Shuangxu sat silently on the sofa next to him for a moment, then stood up: “Then you sleep. I’ll go back.”

He Tingzhou opened his eyes, his tone was cold: “I told you to be on call, you come here and then run away, you’re quite good at dodging, are you a loach?”

Shuangxu thought, on call, what’s the difference between that and a prostitute?

She didn’t retort, and sat down again: “I thought you were going to sleep.”

“I can’t sleep without any noise.” He Tingzhou glanced at her hand, “What’s that?”

“Liquid hydrogen drone test implementation plan.”

He Tingzhou said, “Read it to me.”

Shuangxu, like a obedient robot, opened the plan and started reading from the first line.

“… Test objectives: 1, Verify the flight performance and stability of the drone; 2, Test the –>>

“…the reliability of the human-machine flight control system and communication system; 3, inspection…”

Her voice was as soft as her person, with a touch of vivacity, like clear spring water flowing over pebbles, clean and relaxing.

The plan was five pages long, and Shuangxu read it word for word. She looked up and saw that He Tingzhou’s face was tilted inwards, his breathing even, he must have fallen asleep.

She didn’t make a sound, closed the file, sat down beside him, and put her phone on silent to reply to messages.

He Tingzhou must have really stayed up all night last night, he slept very soundly, all the way until one in the afternoon.

Shuangxu hoped that Xu Zhen or someone else would come knock on the door, giving her a reasonable excuse to wake him up and save her from her starving stomach, but this busy CEO, for once, didn’t have anyone coming to see him today.

She held on until two o’clock, but Shuangxu’s stomach couldn’t take it anymore and protested with a growl.

She looked around, trying to find herself a glass of water, but He Tingzhou even had someone serve him water, there wasn’t even a water dispenser in the office.

“Hungry?” He Tingzhou’s low, husky voice sounded.

Shuangxu looked at him, he rubbed his neck, looking languid as he sat up and walked to the desk, pressing the intercom.

Xu Zhen’s voice came through: “Mr. He.”

“Your Song is hungry,” He Tingzhou said, “Send some food over.”
