Chapter 23: Black and White Puzzle (5)
Bai You’s eyelashes moved, and she slowly opened her eyes.
The moonlight was bright outside the small enamel window glass. She was dazed for a moment, but soon woke up and looked around.
The room was dark, and she could only barely see the outline of the goods piled in the room through the narrow window moonlight. The tall cargo box in front of her completely blocked her sight.
The palm of her hand felt foreign. Bai You opened her tightly clenched palm. It was a metal button, which was warmed by her palm.
Hmm?
She was not wearing clothes with buttons. Where did this come from?
Bai You supported herself on the ground with her hands and tried to stand up. A sharp pain from her ankle made her fall back.
“Hiss…”
She remembered that before she lost consciousness, she saw the black and white space become chaotic, all the blocks were broken up, and the door was floating up and down.
And she was the victim of the space shattering, the unlucky one who missed a step and fell into the crack.
Bai You rubbed her swollen ankle, feeling a little worried.
It is not a good thing that the game’s [feel] system is too real, just like now, she has to go to work with an injury after spraining her ankle.
I don’t know what happened. I was sleeping well, but I entered the game inexplicably. It’s really strange.
And…
Bai You leaned against the wall and touched her neck. The wound there had scabbed over and felt a little hard. It felt different from the surrounding skin because the wound was torn open by the disaster and it was a little stinging.
How could this wound be common between the game and reality?
A clear and gentle male voice suddenly came from the front: “Are you okay?”
Bai You was stunned. She couldn’t see who it was in the darkness. She felt that the voice didn’t sound like Qi Ming, so she asked: “Shi Ye?”
“It’s me.”
Bai You were relieved. She didn’t hear the talkative Qi Ming say anything, and asked, “I’m fine. I can leave after a while. Where is Qi Ming? That boy just now.”
“I don’t know.”
“Hmm?” Bai You was puzzled, “But you don’t seem to have lost consciousness like me…”
She clearly saw the boy’s clear eyes when she lost consciousness.
Shi Ye paused suddenly, hesitated for a few seconds, and then continued: “…I was pulled down by you, so I didn’t see where the boy went.”
Bai You: “…”
She suddenly remembered the button she was holding in her hand when she woke up. So this is what happened.
She coughed lightly, “I’m sorry, I’ve caused you trouble.”
Then she put the “evidence” into her pocket without changing her expression, trying to destroy the body.
Shi Ye smiled gently, “It’s okay, it’s just a game anyway.”
“Pop.”
The warm yellow light instantly illuminated the two of them. Bai You held the penguin night light in her hand, and was glad that she had brought it with her before because she felt that she would use it again. Now she was using it.
Bai You looked at Shi Ye. The boy was sitting on the ground leaning against the cargo box. His clothes seemed to have been severely trampled and covered with a lot of dust. The collar and the corners of his clothes were crumpled into a ball, and a button on the collar was missing, revealing a small piece of pale skin.
His hair was also messy, like a dog with its hair messed up. Only his eyes were still moist and bright, with black pupils and clear eyes, looking at her steadily.
Seeing a few arrogant feathers hanging on Shi Ye’s hair, coupled with his calm expression, Bai You couldn’t help laughing. Seeing that he was puzzled, he kindly reminded him, “There are pigeon feathers on your hair.”
The boy reached out to fiddle with it, but the feathers got stuck deeper and deeper.
Thinking that he was in such a miserable state because of himself, Bai You waved his hand, “Come here, I’ll help you pick it off.”
Shi Ye seemed to hesitate for a moment, and then he moved his body to come over, and a clear and clean breath came over at once.
Bai You saw him half-crouching in front of her, and it was difficult to reach his head with his hands raised. She laughed, “Are you making things difficult for the injured? I’m not going to eat you, be shorter.”
The boy then lowered his head to make it easier for Bai You to operate. She kept picking feathers with her hands and asked him: “How long have I been unconscious? Have you been guarding here all the time?”
“Yeah.”
Probably because it was difficult to talk with his head down, Shi Ye’s voice was a little muffled, “About half an hour, during which someone patrolled outside twice, and I was afraid that he would see you, so I hid you behind the box.”
Bai You’s hand suddenly paused. He was not injured, so he could leave her and ignore her.
And now she is probably just a drag.
“I remember hearing the system voice broadcast, did you hear it?”
Bai You still can’t connect to the system, but she seems to have heard a mechanical voice saying [Welcome to the dungeon] before she lost consciousness.
Does this mean that the system is still there, but it is blocked for some reason?
Shi Ye shook his head, “No, did you hear it wrong?”
Bai You pursed her lips, could she have heard it wrong?
At that time, she was not conscious, because she was always thinking about the system, so she had auditory hallucinations?
This possibility is very high.
“Can you move now? Calculate, the patrol time is coming soon, we can’t stay here all the time, let’s leave here while this wave of patrol guards are over.”
Shi Ye’s voice was steady, “I went out to see while you were sleeping, this is a castle, this room is underground.”
Bai You didn’t bother anymore, stood up with the help of the wall, tried to walk, the pain in her ankle was slightly numb, fortunately it didn’t particularly affect her movements.
“It’s okay.”
She raised the night light to illuminate the surroundings.
This is a room for storing goods, similar to a warehouse. Bai You opened the heavy black wooden box, and under the velvet cushion were all kinds of gold and silver jewelry.
And such boxes are everywhere in the huge warehouse.
No wonder there are guards patrolling outside. Anyone would sleep soundly. Bai You put the lid back on and put the flannel back on the box.
As soon as the patrolling guards heard their footsteps, the two opened the door and followed the route that Shi Ye had explored before, leaving the basement.
There were guards standing guard at the gate and they could not get out, so they could only go up to the first floor of the castle.
Bai You walked carefully, fearing that she would make a noise and disturb the two sleepy guards.
Unexpectedly, halfway up the stairs, her injured foot stepped on a foreign object, and her center of gravity was unstable, and she fell backwards.
Shi Ye reacted quickly, quickly grabbed her hand, and used his strength to pull her in front of him, which saved her.
But the things she stepped on rolled down the stairs with a clang, making a loud noise.
“Who’s there?!”
A scream broke the silence of the night, and she was discovered by the guards.
Bai You did not hesitate, but held Shi Ye’s hand, endured the pain and took him up the stairs quickly, and disappeared into the corner of the corridor.
The corridor was quiet and dull, with only the sound of the two running footsteps. A series of medieval oil paintings were hung on the reddish-brown walls, and the gorgeous colors were waving their claws, as if they were about to jump out of the frame.
The corridor was complicated, and it would be difficult to find it in a short time if it was checked bit by bit. Bai You opened a door with a hairpin and pulled Shi Ye in.
Then he was stunned.
The room was lit.
In front of the desk, the girl in a white dress stopped writing and looked at the two uninvited guests who broke into her room, but her face did not look panicked at all.
She looked at them calmly for a moment, her eyes were a little dark, and she looked at most eleven or twelve years old, but her young face was mature and not in line with her age.
“You failed too, didn’t you?”
Bai You thought for a moment and continued: “What do you think failure is?”
The girl’s eyes were calm and peaceful, like a well. Bai You didn’t like such eyes. If he really wanted to find a reason for his dislike, it was probably because she felt that she was a dead doll at an age that should be lively and cute, with a cute appearance but no emotions.
It made people curious, what did she go through to become like this?
“My name is Lillian.”
“The water is on the table, and there is a quilt in the cabinet for you to use. I can only take you in until tomorrow morning.”
Lillian did not answer Bai You’s question. After saying these words, she turned around calmly and continued to write.
Lillian not only did not yell at the illegal intruders, but took them in calmly, which made Bai You even more curious.
She walked to Lillian’s desk and saw the book she was copying – the Bible. Her beautiful handwriting seemed to be neatly arranged and framed in the lines.
“We must find all kinds of treasures and fill the house with the spoils.”
Bai You silently recited the sentence Lillian copied in his heart, and suddenly remembered the boxes of gold, silver and jewelry in the warehouse.
She said “You also failed”, the word “also” means that there were many people like them?
What did they do like them…?
Could it be stealing money?
There were messy footsteps outside, and through the door panel, it could be heard that there were about a dozen people, and the sound of the door opening could be heard faintly.
Seeing Bai You and the others still standing by, Lillian’s eyebrows were stained with a hint of doubt, “Why don’t you hide?”
“Hide, of course.”
Although I don’t know what will happen if I am caught by the guards, I know with my toes that it will definitely not be a good thing.
The girl’s closet was very small, and Bai You could only hide in it by sitting close to Shi Ye.
Lillian seemed to be very experienced. She skillfully spread the quilt and walked towards the two of them, “Stay close, don’t move.”
Being suffocated in the quilt, her vision was completely dark. Bai You could only feel the warmth and steady heartbeat of the person behind her, and the clear and clean breath in her nose, like water, like melted snow, mixed with a little cold wood smell of pine branches.
She didn’t know if it was an illusion, but she felt that the smell was a little familiar.
The ankle injury was swollen after running for a while, and it hurt so much again after being pressed. Bai You endured the pain and wondered in her heart. She had never thought about this problem before. If she stepped on the air and fell backwards, she would have fallen on her buttocks. Why did she twist her foot?
She moved involuntarily, trying to make some space.
The person behind her seemed to have noticed her little movement, lowered his voice, and asked with concern: “Does it hurt?”
Bai You shook his head, and the next second he remembered that he couldn’t see it at all, so he spoke again, slightly tilting his head, “It’s okay, don’t worry about me, pay attention to the conversation outside.”
The patrol had arrived, Lillian opened the door and began to ask questions, and the two parties were talking.
The warm breath sprayed in her ears, and the deliberately low and cold voice carried the girl’s unique gentle and soft fragrance, lingering lightly.
She approached him so unguarded and obediently.
Tokoyami narrowed his eyes slightly, and a silent smile flashed in his eyes.
