Xie Ling lightly held a delicate JK uniform in her hands, wearing a mischievous smile on her face. “Xingbao, come over and take a look. This is your costume for the performance. How is it? Doesn’t it suit you perfectly?”
Shen Nanxing stared at the clothes in her hands, his eyes wide with disbelief. “Are you sure you didn’t grab the wrong one? Isn’t this women’s clothing?”
Xia Zimu’s gaze sparkled with excitement. “What women’s clothing? Is Little Nanxing going to wear women’s clothes?” If he could witness Little Nanxing dressed in women’s clothes, he might consider collaborating with Fu Chengyu.
Xie Ling nodded at them, confirming, “That’s right, it’s women’s clothing. Xingbao, didn’t you know? Your character needs to wear women’s clothing in the later part of the script.”
Shen Nanxing felt an ominous premonition rising in his chest and tried to refuse with a stiff expression. “Can I not wear it? My character isn’t that important.”
But Xie Ling, looking serious, told him, “It’s important, very important.”
The script written by Su Lin was about a poor academic genius and a rich young master who went from disliking each other to developing feelings and finding happiness—a story about striving for self-realization. The character “Lin Sheng” was a supporting role whose purpose was to help develop the relationship between the main characters.
Lin Sheng has a twin sister who secretly admires Chu Xuan and wrote many love letters to him but never sent them. Later, after Lin Sheng’s sister dies in a car accident, Lin Sheng finds the love letters while sorting through her belongings and realizes that his sister had feelings for Chu Xuan but never confessed. To make up for his sister’s regret, Lin Sheng decides to dress as his sister and confess on her behalf. It is this confession that makes Chu Xuan realize his own feelings for Li Fu, and he aggressively pursues Li Fu…
Shen Nanxing felt like he could scratch the walls after hearing such an awkward plot. If the character wanted to convey his sister’s feelings to Chu Xuan, he could simply say it directly. Why go through all this trouble?
He twitched his mouth and asked, “I remember the script you sent me didn’t have this part, right?”
The script clearly stated that Lin Sheng, as a supporting character, only appeared at the end when Chu Xuan confesses to Li Fu, delivering the message that Chu Xuan was injured in the infirmary and asking Li Fu to go to him. He barely had any lines!!!
Xie Ling seemed evasive when he questioned her, her eyes flickering slightly. “That must have been a mistake. You saw the first version. This storyline was added later by a senior.”
Shen Nanxing looked at the clothes in his hands with a troubled expression. “This is too absurd.”
Xia Zimu, hearing all this, was grinning so hard his face nearly split open. According to the law of smile conservation, smiles don’t disappear, they just shift. Just a moment ago, Little Nanxing was mocking him, and now it was his turn to watch the drama unfold.
Xia Zimu chuckled. “Little Nanxing, just do it as a good deed. The performance is only a few days away, and if we change the cast now, there’s no time.”
Xie Ling quickly nodded, “Exactly, exactly.”
Shen Nanxing, hearing this, seemed a bit more relaxed. After all, he had seen everyone’s hard work lately. Xia Zimu, noticing that Shen Nanxing was softening, half-pushed him toward the dressing room.
“Little Nanxing, hurry up and try it on. See if it fits!”
Shen Nanxing was pushed into the dressing room. As he stared at the clothes in front of him, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of shame. The shirt looked somewhat normal, but the skirt—why did it look so awkward? And it was so short! It was just too embarrassing. He glanced at the black knee-high socks beside him, and his ears turned red.
He just wanted to scream for help!
Just as Shen Nanxing was feeling unsure and torn about whether to wear the outfit, a faint voice drew his attention away.
The room wasn’t soundproof, and if he remembered correctly, the room next door seemed to be a storage room. Shen Nanxing perked up his ears and listened carefully. He could vaguely hear two voices talking. One voice trembled, seemingly struggling, urgently saying, “Let go of me!” The other voice, however, was domineering, with an undeniable tone, saying, “A Bai, you’re the one who provoked me first! What right do you have to reject me?”
Shen Nanxing wasn’t unfamiliar with these two voices; it was Fu Chengyu and Lin Bai. He never expected Fu Chengyu to be so bold, flirting with Lin Bai in a place like this while people were coming and going in the drama club. This was undeniable evidence, wasn’t it? Shen Nanxing’s eyes flashed with a glint of calculation as he reached for his phone to record this scene. With proof of Fu Chengyu’s infidelity, the divorce could be easily settled. However, Shen Nanxing soon realized that he had left his phone on the table during the rehearsal. Sigh, it was all in vain.
Reluctantly, Shen Nanxing gave up on the idea, lost his interest in changing clothes, and took the costume before heading out. Xia Zimu, waiting outside the door, saw that he was still wearing the same clothes and asked, “Oh, you’re out already? Didn’t the clothes fit?”
Shen Nanxing hadn’t even tried them on and calmly replied, “I have a cleanliness obsession. I’ll wash them at home before trying them on.”
“Alright, once the wig arrives, we can try it all together,” Xia Zimu said. While Shen Nanxing was inside, Xia Zimu had secretly approached Xie Ling with a mysterious expression, asking why the wig hadn’t been prepared. Xie Ling explained that the wig was ordered online and hadn’t arrived yet. She even showed him the purchase record to prove it. Xia Zimu mentally noted the shop’s name, deciding to personally pick a wig for Shen Nanxing later.
Relieved that Xia Zimu had let him off the hook, Shen Nanxing sighed slightly. Xia Zimu put his arm around Shen Nanxing’s shoulders and suggested, “Little Nanxing, it’s almost mealtime. Let’s go eat!”
“Aren’t you supposed to rehearse with Fu Chengyu later?” Shen Nanxing asked.
Xia Zimu snorted disdainfully, clearly displeased. “If he’s so capable, let him practice by himself first. Of course, our Little Nanxing’s meal is more important.”
As they walked out of the drama club, they bumped into Lin Bai. Lin Bai was a member of the student council. Since the drama club was short-handed, he had volunteered to help. Summer Lin had assigned him lighter tasks, like running errands and doing small chores. Lin Bai was very grateful because, after the incident with the post, many people had negative opinions of him. He had offered to help to change everyone’s perception of him. The most important reason, however, was that Fu Chengyu was also in the drama club, and he had come mainly for him.
Shen Nanxing casually glanced at Lin Bai, noticing his slightly flushed cheeks, slightly disheveled clothes, and the hint of fear in his clear, innocent eyes.
Lin Bai’s gaze accidentally met Shen Nanxing’s, and he flashed a friendly smile, greeting him, “Student Shen, what a coincidence.”
Shen Nanxing responded coolly and briefly, “Not a coincidence.”
Xia Zimu studied Lin Bai carefully. He noticed that the shape of his face resembled Shen Nanxing’s to some extent, and he curiously asked, “Who are you?”
Lin Bai’s smile became even gentler as he politely introduced himself, “Senior Xia, hello, I’m Lin Bai.”
