Shen Nanxing sighed helplessly, “Dad, he’s only a few years older than me. Why do I have to call him ‘uncle’? It’s so awkward!” He had finally gotten used to calling him that and didn’t want to change.
Fu Zhiyuan curled his lips into a slight smile, his cold, sharp eyes softening with a hint of tenderness. “It’s just a form of address. Xingbao can call me whatever he likes.”
Father Shen, seeing no way out, could only compromise. “Alright, alright, good boy, call him however you want.” In the end, they could call each other whatever they liked.
Shen Nanxing then shifted his attention back to Fu Zhiyuan. “You still haven’t told me, why are you here?”
Fu Zhiyuan’s dark eyes locked onto him. “Your engagement to Chengyu has been annulled.”
So, did that mean he could now openly pursue Xingbao?
Shen Nanxing’s brows relaxed upon hearing this good news. “That’s great.” Finally, the day had arrived.
Fu Zhiyuan noticed he wasn’t sad about the broken engagement and sighed with slight relief in his heart.
“Xingbao, why didn’t you reply to me last night?” Fu Zhiyuan asked, continuing.
Shen Nanxing avoided his gaze. “I went to bed early, didn’t see it.” Fu Zhiyuan had sent him a message last night. He had been playing a game at the time and thought he’d reply once he finished, but ended up falling asleep and forgetting.
Fu Zhiyuan raised an eyebrow, a faint smile crossing his face. “Really?”
“Of course.” Shen Nanxing nodded. He had indeed fallen asleep, so he wasn’t really lying.
Seeing Fu Zhiyuan smile without speaking, Shen Nanxing hurriedly asked, “You don’t believe me?”
“I believe you.”
Watching them talk endlessly, Shen Chuanqiong couldn’t take it anymore. He stood up and walked over to Shen Nanxing. “Xingbao, you’re hungry, right? Go eat some breakfast.” He said, pulling Shen Nanxing toward the dining room, not forgetting to glare at Fu Zhiyuan as he left. Why had he been so bothered by Fu Zhiyuan these past few days, especially when he got close to Xingbao?
When they reached the dining room, Aunt Wu hurriedly asked what he wanted to eat so she could prepare it. Shen Nanxing said he wanted wontons.
He looked at Shen Chuanqiong, who appeared deep in thought. “Brother, what are you thinking? Did something happen?”
Shen Chuanqiong was still thinking about the scene from earlier, feeling it was strangely familiar, but just couldn’t place where he had seen it before.
He rubbed his chin and replied, “I was thinking about what you guys were talking about earlier.” The conversation had been a bit far away, so he hadn’t really caught it.
“You want to know so badly, why don’t you just ask me directly?” Fu Zhiyuan had appeared in the dining room without Shen Chuanqiong noticing.
Shen Chuanqiong was startled, his eyes filled with anger. “Damn, can’t you make a sound when you walk?” He appeared like a ghost, sneaking up on him without any warning.
Fu Zhiyuan remained unruffled, replying casually, “You were too lost in thought.”
Shen Chuanqiong clicked his tongue, his face full of warning. “Stay away from Xingbao in the future, got it?”
“Why?” Shen Nanxing asked, confused.
“Not listening.” Fu Zhiyuan rejected firmly.
Shen Chuanqiong felt like he had punched cotton—so powerless! This guy had no sense of self-awareness! He glared at Fu Zhiyuan in frustration and turned back to Shen Nanxing, saying, “Xingbao, stay away from him, okay? This person is dangerous.” Though he couldn’t exactly explain what made him dangerous, his gut feeling told him it was best for Xingbao to keep a distance from Fu Zhiyuan.
Fu Zhiyuan was at a loss for words, unable to respond to Shen Chuanqiong’s slander. He glanced at the person eating wontons and said, “Xingbao, don’t listen to your brother. I’m a law-abiding citizen, where’s the danger?”
“Xingbao, listen to your brother.”
“Xingbao…” Shen Nanxing swallowed the last bite of wonton and held up his hands to signal for them to stop. “Stop, enough. Don’t say anymore.”
He hadn’t expected these two to have such a childish side to them, arguing over something so trivial. This completely ruined their image.
“Brother, maybe you two should just go back to work!” Go back to the company and be good at being the domineering CEOs.
Shen Nanxing looked at them, speechless.
Shen Chuanqiong snorted proudly. “Xingbao, you’ve changed.” This wasn’t the obedient, sensible, and caring little brother he knew. He had actually scolded him for an outsider.
If Shen Nanxing knew his true thoughts, he would probably protest. All he did was raise his voice a little, how did that become scolding?
Shen Nanxing looked at him with an innocent expression. “What do you mean?”
Fu Zhiyuan chuckled lightly and comforted him, “No, your brother is just talking nonsense.”
To Shen Chuanqiong’s ears, that laugh sounded like pure mockery. He snapped, “I didn’t ask you, why are you butting in?” In frustration, he stood up and kicked Fu Zhiyuan’s chair. “Move, don’t stay in my house. Go back to your company!”
Shen Nanxing watched this in stunned silence. He never expected his brother to be so bold, actually kicking someone out. After all, Fu Zhiyuan was a big shot in this novel.
Fu Zhiyuan glanced at the time and realized it was time for him to leave. He had a meeting soon. Ignoring Shen Chuanqiong’s fury, he turned to Shen Nanxing to say goodbye. “Sorry, Xingbao, I have to leave for work now.”
Shen Nanxing nodded in understanding. “Alright, take care.”
“Okay.”
As Fu Zhiyuan left, the atmosphere in the dining room instantly quieted down. Shen Nanxing finished his milk and decided to leave as well. As he passed through the living room, Father Shen called out to him.
“Xingbao, come here.”
Shen Nanxing was confused. “What’s wrong, Dad?”
Father Shen handed him a box. “This is for you.”
Shen Nanxing opened the box, and inside was a beautiful, valuable blue diamond. He picked it up and asked, “Is this for me?”
Father Shen sighed, nodding. “This was prepared for you by Fu Chengyu’s grandmother when you were engaged to him. We were going to have Fu Zhiyuan take it back today, but he refused, saying that since it was given to you, it’s yours.”
When Shen Nanxing heard that it was related to Fu Chengyu, he quickly put the diamond back. Father Shen noticed his reaction and asked, “Xingbao, do you not like it?”
Shen Nanxing’s eyes lit up as he suggested, “Since no one wants it, we could donate it for charity auction. That way, it will do some good.”
“Good idea, you’re really smart.” Father Shen praised him.
Outside the Shen family’s gates, Shen Chuanqiong quickly called out to Fu Zhiyuan, who was about to get into his car. “Hey, Fu Zhiyuan, wait up!”
Fu Zhiyuan paused in the act of opening the car door. “Is there something else?”
Shen Chuanqiong walked up to him, eyes sharp as he assessed Fu Zhiyuan. “You’ve been acting strange lately. Do you have other intentions towards Xingbao?”
In his mind, Shen Chuanqiong thought, You better say no, or my fists won’t be nice.
Fu Zhiyuan remained calm and tested, “What if I say yes?”
Shen Chuanqiong was furious. “Damn, you really dare to think that?!”
Without a second thought, he swung his fist at Fu Zhiyuan. But Fu Zhiyuan quickly sidestepped, avoiding the punch. He wasn’t like his naive nephew who wouldn’t know how to dodge.
Taking advantage of Shen Chuanqiong’s moment of distraction, Fu Zhiyuan got into the car, tossing back, “I said ‘what if,’ why are you getting so mad?” He then instructed the driver to quickly drive off.
Leaving Shen Chuanqiong standing there, angrily shouting, “Fu Zhiyuan, how come I never noticed before how nasty your words are!”
