Life after marriage was completely different from what Bai Mengqi had imagined. Not only did her husband sleep in a separate room, but he never touched her. Before marriage, this was seen as a sign of respect, but after marriage, it seemed to imply that he wasn’t capable in that regard. She had questioned Fu Ningjin more than once, only to receive the reply that he had been too busy lately and lacked interest in that area, so she should just sleep early.
Bai Mengqi was internally tormented. One day, while organizing Fu Ningjin’s study, she uncovered the truth—her husband was gay. It wasn’t that he couldn’t, it was that he simply didn’t like women. This discovery felt like an insult and a betrayal. Fu Ningjin’s actions were no different from a marriage scam! It was as if he had ruined her life, so she decided to seek revenge. She had someone secretly investigate Fu Ningjin’s first love.
When she found the person, he was in a hospital. It turned out that the reason Fu Ningjin’s first love had chosen to let go was that he had cancer and didn’t have long to live. Bai Mengqi pretended to run into him by chance, and using his soft-heartedness, they gradually became close. Bai Mengqi told him she had a family genetic disease and wouldn’t live past 25. They sympathized with each other, like friends and almost like soulmates. Bai Mengqi slowly gained his trust, and one day, during a meal, she drugged his juice, and they ended up sleeping together.
When he woke up, Fu Ningjin’s first love was filled with guilt and apologized profusely. He felt dirty because the person he had always loved was Fu Ningjin, and now, sleeping with another woman felt like a betrayal of their love. From that moment on, his health worsened. Bai Mengqi watched him slowly lose his vitality, feeling a sense of satisfaction. But this was just the beginning of her revenge.
One day, Bai Mengqi stopped Fu Ningjin and told him she had a surprise for him. He was confused as she led him to the hospital where Fu Ningjin’s first love was staying. Seeing the man, now emaciated and tortured by illness, Fu Ningjin’s eyes immediately reddened. He couldn’t believe that the person before him was the vibrant lover from his memories. The two of them stared at each other, silently shedding tears. Fu Ningjin, deeply pained, embraced his first love. “Liar!” His first love looked at him with regretful eyes, “I’m sorry…”
Bai Mengqi watched them embrace and laughed mockingly. Her next words were like a cruel curse. “You two dog-like men are just disgusting! Fu Ningjin, you liar, so hypocritical. One day, you’ll get what you deserve!”
Fu Ningjin’s first love, confused by the situation, asked, “What are you—”
Bai Mengqi screamed at them in despair, “I’m his wife! What do you think I’m doing? Of course, I’m catching you in the act!”
“You didn’t really think I saw you as a friend, did you? You’re just a tool I’m using to get back at him!”
Fu Ningjin couldn’t bear to hear Bai Mengqi insult his first love like that. His face twisted with disgust as he snapped, “Shut up! Have you said enough? This has nothing to do with him!”
But what Bai Mengqi said next was even more shocking.
“Fu Ningjin, you still don’t know, do you? I’ve already slept with him. How does it feel to be betrayed by your lover and your first love? Hahahaha…”
An hour later, Fu Ningjin’s first love’s complexion had become even paler, his body trembling all over, and his emotions were highly agitated. Fu Ningjin suppressed the violent rage in his heart and comforted his first love, “I don’t believe her, don’t cry.”
His first love shook his head, despair and pain written on his face as he said, “Everything she said is true, it’s my fault…” For a moment, it was unclear whose heart was bleeding. Fu Ningjin tried to control his emotions and, with red eyes, kissed his first love on the forehead. “I don’t blame you.” If anyone was to blame, it was fate, or his own lack of resolve. If he hadn’t married Bai Mengqi, none of this would have happened.
It took a long time for his first love to calm down. Fu Ningjin coaxed him into taking his medicine, and soon after, he fell asleep. Fu Ningjin angrily dragged Bai Mengqi out of the hospital room and demanded, “Why are you doing this? Do you even know he’s sick?” Bai Mengqi didn’t back down and retorted, “So what? You lied to me, now you have to face the consequences!” She hated Fu Ningjin, who had destroyed all her illusions of a beautiful love and a happy marriage.
“You are the one to blame for all of this, Fu Ningjin, not me, Bai Mengqi!” Fu Ningjin, exhausted, looked at her and said, “Let’s divorce.” Bai Mengqi laughed out loud at his words. “Divorce? You wish!” Then she pulled out an ultrasound report from her bag and slapped it on Fu Ningjin’s face. “I’m pregnant, and the child is his, but the father of the child must be you!”
Fu Ningjin, after reading the report, was so enraged he trembled. “You’re crazy!” Bai Mengqi wiped the tears from her face expressionlessly. “You made me this way. This is your debt to me. You’ll have to acknowledge this child whether you want to or not!”
Their conversation was overheard by Fu Ningjin’s first love, who had pretended to sleep. That night, while Fu Ningjin slept, his first love went up to the hospital rooftop and jumped off. A life was lost, becoming the tragic sacrifice in the emotional entanglement between Fu Ningjin and Bai Mengqi.
“If there’s an afterlife, I don’t want to meet you again.” This was the only message Fu Ningjin’s first love left for him. After that, Fu Ningjin and Bai Mengqi’s marriage became merely a formality. The couple lived separate lives, neither disturbing the other. After giving birth to Fu Chengyu, Bai Mengqi’s mental state improved significantly, and she focused all her energy on her son, placing high hopes on him.
Fu Ningjin worked tirelessly every day, immersing himself in art, never caring about his wife or child. Fu Chengyu, from a young age, longed for his father’s love, but Fu Ningjin never spent more than ten minutes alone with him, leaving him utterly confused. Since childhood, besides his mother, it was only Grandpa Fu who showed him more care, but even that was often accompanied by harsh discipline, which Fu Chengyu strongly resisted. Growing up under the indifference of his father and the strong control of his mother, Fu Chengyu’s temperament wasn’t the best.
…
Grandpa Fu listened to the whole story and then pointed at both of them, scolding, “Absurd! Simply absurd!” He spoke to Fu Ningjin in a tone full of disappointment, “Is this how I taught you? You have no judgment in your actions, not even the most basic responsibility as a man!” Fu Ningjin lowered his head in shame, meeting his father’s disappointed eyes. “Dad, I’m sorry.”
“At this point, what do you plan to do?” Grandpa Fu gave them a disdainful look. Fu Ningjin stubbornly said, “Divorce.” Grandpa Fu sighed, feeling exhausted, “Then what about Chengyu?” Ultimately, the most innocent victim in all of this was Fu Chengyu.
Bai Mengqi looked at Grandpa Fu with pleading eyes, “Dad, I was wrong. Please, I beg you, don’t drive Chengyu away. To him, you and Mom are his only family!” Grandpa Fu looked at her with disappointment, “I thought you were just a little misguided, but I didn’t expect you to be so crazy. That’s a living person’s life we’re talking about!”
She wasn’t a murderer, but her actions were worse than that of a murderer. Bai Mengqi shook her head repeatedly, crying, “I didn’t want to do this, I’m sorry…”
