Chapter 1: A Special Fear of Him
“You’re not even worthy of liking me.”
“How you hurt Wanwan, I will make you pay double.”
Ning Qiutang woke up from a nightmare, covered in cold sweat. The icy bullets and sharp blades that had inflicted pain upon her in the dream felt as if they had pierced her soul.
Her eyes were moist, and she silently cried under the covers.
It had been a week since she was reborn, and that nightmare still haunted her every night, preventing her from finding peace.
She had loved the wrong person, and done the wrong things.
The most dazzling and precious young lady in the capital city, in the end, was bullied and despised by everyone. The person she loved most used the most humiliating and abusive methods to kill her, tearing her soul apart, leaving her in excruciating pain.
Stay away from him, stay away from them!
The next day, she got up in a daze.
Ning’s mother doted on her only daughter. Seeing her red eyes, she worriedly asked, “Baby, are you feeling unwell again?”
“Should we see a doctor, or should I ask your third brother to accompany you?”
“No… no need!” As soon as Ning Qiutang heard the name of the person who had brought about her demise, she reflexively refused.
The girl was only 18 years old, about to graduate from high school. She was a stunning beauty, with delicate features that were always shrouded in a faint layer of worry. Her unparalleled beauty added a touch of melancholic and aloofness to her demeanor.
Ning’s mother looked at her beloved daughter with confusion, “What do you mean, no need?”
Her daughter had depression, and her third brother was the only one who could help her. Now she said no?
“Did he bully you?”
The two families were close friends, and they were also a perfect match. Jiang’s grandfather had already said that the two were destined to be together, and they would get engaged after graduation.
So, since she was a child, Ning Qiutang had considered the most unattainable prince of the Jiang family as her future husband.
But he didn’t like her, he even disliked her. And now he had a girlfriend.
In her previous life, Ning Qiutang didn’t understand. They were childhood sweethearts, their relationship was inseparable, so why did her third brother like a girl who was nothing special?
She was a noble young lady, a thousand golds that others worshipped, but how could she compare to a smelly girl with no background? Her self-esteem was trampled upon, and her true feelings were repeatedly trampled.
Later, she finally understood. In the eyes of the person you love, no matter what the other person is like, they are the best in his eyes.
Therefore, she would never be able to compare to the white moonlight and cinnabar mole in her third brother’s heart.
“No, Mom, no need to call him. I’ve just been a little sick recently. I’ll go to the doctor myself.”
Ning Qiutang didn’t hate them, she only hated her own incompetence. More than anything, she was afraid of them.
The Jiang family was one of the top families in the capital city. Their family was slightly weaker, and as the youngest and most senior prince of the Jiang family, his status was unparalleled, a golden and precious existence. Therefore, he was arrogant and unruly, looking down upon everyone.
Even her.
But there was only one person who could be unrestrained in front of that prince, raising her chin in anger, acting spoiled, touching his head, playing around with him, and being intimately close.
She saw the future, and felt even more despair.
Her liking in his mouth was simply not worthy.
She tried to shake off the thoughts in her head.
Ning Qiutang avoided her mother’s probing gaze, hugged the lunchbox she had prepared, and said, “Mom, I’ll go to school first.”
“Please make an appointment with Dr. Zhao for me. I’ll go see him after school.”
Ning’s mother looked at her daughter’s worried and sickly back, her brows furrowed slightly.
No. 1 High School.
All the children of the prominent families in the capital city studied here.
They had sent out generations of powerful and wealthy sons and daughters.
And now, No. 1 High School was divided into two camps.
The Prince Party, led by the eldest son of the Jiang family, and the Young Master Qin Party, led by the young master Qin, were two factions of young masters.
None of them liked her.
But in her previous life, she insisted on being a nuisance, going out of her way to get their attention even though they didn’t like her, making herself look cheap and arrogant.
So lately, she’s been avoiding them.
Ning Qiutang sat quietly on the playground, eating her lunch, while her best friend, Yu Jiaojiao, chattered incessantly.
“Why aren’t you reacting? Your crush is competing with that woman from the slums, and everyone’s saying they’re a perfect match!”
Yu Jiaojiao couldn’t take it anymore. Lately, Qiutang had been acting strange. She used to be obsessed with finding out everything about her crush, but now she didn’t seem to care. Before, whenever she heard that the woman was with her fiancé, she would get furious and threaten to teach the woman a lesson.
Now, she’s been quiet for a week.
If anyone didn’t know better, they’d think they were dead.
“They do seem like a good match,” Ning Qiutang said insincerely. No matter what, she didn’t want to repeat the same mistakes. They could be together if they wanted.
But she didn’t like that woman, and she never would.
Just because she was reborn didn’t mean she’d suddenly like her.
Yu Jiaojiao stared at her in shock. “They’re a good match? What about you? What will you do? You love Jiang Sheng so much, are you just going to give him up?”
“It’s just a childhood engagement, we haven’t formally gotten engaged. I’ll talk to Grandpa Jiang… and break it off.”
Ning Qiutang felt a pang in her heart, but this was the only way. She didn’t want to be killed by that person again.
If she couldn’t win, then she would withdraw. She didn’t want to be a supporting character in their game anymore.
“What? Break it off!” Yu Jiaojiao looked at her best friend in even more shock. What was she talking about?
Everyone knew that Qiutang loved Jiang Sheng more than anyone else. No one loved that man more than her. And now she was talking about breaking off the engagement!
What had happened to her?
“Breaking off the engagement wouldn’t kill you,” she knew Qiutang too well. How could she just give up on years of love?
Especially since Qiutang had depression, and Jiang Sheng was the only cure.
Ning Qiutang wanted to say that she had already died once, and there was no cure in this world anymore.
“I’ll be fine, trust me.”
After lunch, she took Yu Jiaojiao away, telling her to stop talking about it.
They didn’t know that someone was lying behind a pile of tables and chairs where they had been sitting.
A few minutes later, Chen Jinsi found him.
“Third Brother, a bunch of people were waiting for you. You were sleeping here, we were almost beaten to a pulp.”
He pulled the clothes off the young man’s head, revealing a handsome face that was both youthful and majestic.
Jiang Sheng’s hair was slightly messy, and his eyes, which had just woken up, held a lazy and casual charm. His brows and eyes were hidden with a hint of arrogance and nobility, and his eyes, while unassuming, were somehow intimidating.
His top-tier features were too perfect, sitting there like a masterpiece, the most striking stroke in the history of human beauty. It was enough to make anyone feel inferior.
“Just some petty squabbles,” he scoffed, not wanting to show up.
Chen Jinsi immediately said, “You’re not going? Your girlfriend is there.”
Jiang Sheng gave him a cold, icy look, his expression displeased. He knew what he meant.
Chen Jinsi slapped his own mouth. “Okay, okay, not girlfriend.”
“But everyone says so, and you don’t even explain.”
