Chapter 36: It’s Better to Beg Me to Love You
Jiang Sheng tossed a fan from the table to her: “Fan yourself.”
Because of the mosquito repellent incense, there were no mosquitoes in the room.
The windows were open, and the evening breeze blew in in gusts.
The bamboo forest outside rustled from time to time.
Ning Qiutang fanned herself for a while, but her wrist ached. She let her hand fall to the ground, and it felt even hotter: “Jiang Sheng… I’m so hot.”
“Jiang Sheng~”
She knew she should have brought a small fan.
Many places in the temple didn’t have electricity, and to maintain their primitive lifestyle, they didn’t have fans.
The mountains were quite cool, but she had been pampered since childhood, and couldn’t stand even a little heat. Her back was a little damp.
Jiang Sheng took out his phone to send a message, sat up from the floor and leaned against her bed, reaching for the fan on the floor to fan her: “Now you know to call me.”
She usually wanted to stay as far away from him as possible.
Ning Qiutang felt the wind on her face. The moonlight outside was bright, and the room wasn’t so dark that she couldn’t see anything.
She lay on her side, looking at the boy’s obliging manner, and the feeling of being suffocated by cling wrap in her heart loosened a little.
“When you saved me from the water, your wound got wet. You definitely didn’t put medicine on it when you were treating it. Jiang Sheng, you still need to consider yourself…”
“Why are you talking so much today? Are you going to sleep or not?”
Jiang Sheng pinched her face, soft and glutinous like a glutinous rice ball. He couldn’t bear to let go, so he kept pinching it.
Ning Qiutang couldn’t sleep, and besides, counting both this life and the last one, this was the first time they had slept in the same room together.
She was more afraid of being killed by him.
She didn’t feel safe at all.
“Stop rubbing my face. It’s annoying. I’m not dough.”
Jiang Sheng flicked her forehead lightly with his finger, his tone extremely bad: “Am I giving you too much face?”
Ning Qiutang covered her mouth, thinking to herself, did he misunderstand what “giving face” meant?
He had never given her any face, always being fierce, looking like he wanted to kill her at any moment. How dare he say that?
Forget it, forget it, she wouldn’t argue with him. She could leave after graduation, fly away, and no one could hurt her.
“I’m going to sleep.”
“Goodnight.”
Ning Qiutang found a comfortable sleeping position, hugging the blanket without caring about her image as a girl, and even moved the tool man’s hand so that the fan was facing her face.
Jiang Sheng’s hand holding the fan handle tightened slightly, his eyes lowered as he looked at the girl’s peaceful sleeping face, his gaze strangely lost.
He had seen all kinds of beauties, but the Young Mastersuddenly discovered that Ning Qiutang was very beautiful, beautiful enough to make him want to bite her.
As soon as he had this thought, his body started to rebel against him. An unavoidable physiological aversion forced him to quickly look away.
An hour later, someone brought ice and an automatic fan that didn’t need to be plugged in.
Jiang Sheng put the ice in the room and turned on two fans to blow in the room.
After Ning Qiutang’s breathing gradually calmed down, he lay back down to sleep.
The next day.
When Ning Qiutang opened her eyes groggily, she saw the monkey by the bed and jumped in fright.
“Ah!! Jiang Sheng~” She hugged her pillow and huddled in the corner.
The monkey was also startled, jumped off the bed and sat on the table, eating a few apples.
Jiang Sheng opened his eyes with a displeased expression, sat up and looked at the girl who was frightened on the bed, his gaze falling on the monkey on the table.
“You’re so timid, are you a rat?”
The temple was close to the forest, so monkeys would come by from time to time.
It was also a unique feature of this temple.
He twisted his neck, clearly not having slept well.
The Crown Prince had a bad temper when he woke up, his dark face was even scarier than a ghost.
Ning Qiutang glared at him. As a young unmarried woman, she woke up early in the morning and suddenly saw a monkey sitting next to her head. How could she not be scared?
“I want to go home!” She threw her pillow down, hitting the arrogant Crown Prince.
Jiang Sheng lay down again: “Go ahead, don’t let me stop you.”
Ning Qiutang put on her shoes and ran out. It was only a little past eight in the morning.
The temple was immersed in a peaceful tranquility.
Except for the occasional chirping of birds, beasts, and insects.
Grandma Jiang got up early, put on a dark purple cheongsam, and asked the maid to comb her hair. When she saw Ning Qiutang, she asked someone to prepare breakfast.
“Grandma, I want to go home. I haven’t finished my homework yet, and I have classes tomorrow.” Ning Qiutang was filled with thoughts of studying and homework, she had never loved school so much.
Grandma Jiang smiled and patted her hand, pulling her to sit down: “No hurry, wait until after the religious service to go back, eat first.”
“Where’s Jiang Sheng?”
“He’s still sleeping.” Ning Qiutang sat down to drink porridge, which was made with lotus seeds and lotus flowers picked yesterday.
Grandma Jiang muttered: “They say that the morning is the best time to start the day, but your third brother is always like he can’t wake up, what can he get done in a day.”
“Grandma, maybe it’s because others are diligent and can catch up with geniuses, while Third Brother is already far beyond his peers, so he doesn’t need to work hard, he can easily become the target of geniuses.”
Ning Qiutang remembered that when she woke up in the morning, there were two fans in the room and ice cubes, although they had already melted into water, she could still tell that they were brought in the middle of the night.
Jiang Sheng had changed in her heart, more or less.
Grandma Jiang said with a smile: “You’re actually speaking up for him.”
Ning Qiutang smiled sweetly and added some cinnamon bird’s nest for her grandmother: “He’s always been very capable, it’s just that others don’t know it.”
“That’s good, that’s good.” Grandma Jiang smiled kindly and asked her to eat more.
At noon, the grand religious service officially began.
Grandpa Jiang followed Buddhist rules and etiquette, eating vegetarian food and reciting scriptures for three days. After bathing and changing clothes, he knelt down in front of the Buddha statue with the master to recite scriptures and pray.
Jiang Sheng also came over. After the elders finished their prayers, the younger generation continued.
Ning Qiutang knelt down with him. She knelt on the cushion and bowed to the Buddha respectfully.
But Jiang Sheng neither knelt nor bowed, he seemed to be disgusted by everything.
Old Master Jiang didn’t force him to do anything and talked to the master.
Ning Qiutang knelt down devoutly and looked up at the sacred Buddha statue, asking in her heart: Buddha, why was I reborn?
Since I was reborn, will my fate be different? I just want to live a peaceful life.
“You’re praying to the gods for your blessings, why don’t you ask me to love you?”
Jiang Sheng sat on the cushion, suddenly leaned over and hooked her hair with his hand, his expression was obscure and difficult to understand.
Ning Qiutang’s heart couldn’t help but beat rapidly, like a deer in a forest, making her limbs feel a little numb.
She looked at him with complex eyes: “Then I’ll ask you to let me go?”
Jiang Sheng’s lips curled up slightly, his expression playful and cold. He didn’t speak, but he could make anyone understand his meaning.
Let go, there’s no such good thing in this world.
Ning Qiutang knew this would be the case. She didn’t dare to place her trust in him, she lowered her head and said with a melancholy expression: “I dare not hope, the difficult ending is destined by heaven.”
