Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu in surprise and asked, “Is he that important?”
“For me, Yuan Bao is like my brother, just like my real brother. I’m still alive today because Yuan Bao almost exchanged his life for mine three years ago…” Su Yu began to recount the events from three years ago to Wang Jinhe.
“I woke up and heard my brother telling me that Yuan Bao’s leg might not recover. It took more than half a year and a lot of precious herbs to finally heal Yuan Bao. Since then, Yuan Bao’s health hasn’t been great, and he has been taking medication to maintain his condition. Since then, for my brother and me, Yuan Bao is like our own blood. Without Yuan Bao, there is no us,” Su Yu said earnestly as he looked at Wang Jinhe.
Wang Jinhe nodded in understanding, “I see. In that case, go ahead. It’s really uncomfortable to hold back this grudge.”
“Grandpa and the others are so bad; I don’t like them,” Xiao Bao knew that Su Yu was referring to his grandparents, who had almost killed his father. These people were truly wicked. “In the future, we won’t give them anything good.”
Yuan Bao, he knew about him; he was a very nice uncle. The first time they met, Uncle Yuan Bao even bought him some delicious snacks.
“Alright, we don’t like them. Daddy is going back for a while. You be a good boy at home and listen to mommy, okay?” Su Yu said as she hugged Xiao Bao and ruffled his hair.
Xiao Bao nodded firmly, “Daddy, you go ahead, I’ll be very obedient.”
Su Yu turned to Wang Jinhe and said, “Xiao He, I’ll be back that day.”
There were still more than thirty days left until the date of the engagement; there was plenty of time.
“Alright.”
After Wang Dagui and the others learned that Su Yu was leaving and heard the explanation from Wang Jinhe, Grandfather Wang decided to postpone the engagement. They moved it from the 10th to the 26th.
“Thank you, Grandpa.”
“We all support you. People shouldn’t forget their roots, and they shouldn’t forget kindness. We won’t judge your parents, but we are here for you as an individual. Now, go on, and be safe on your journey,” Grandpa Wang said, patting Su Yu’s shoulder.
Grandpa didn’t like his birth parents at all. How could they be so cruel to this extent?
“Alright, I’ll be going now.” This time, Su Yu didn’t take a carriage; he rode back at full speed.
Wang Dagui furrowed his brow and said, “No wonder Xiao Yu said his relationship with his parents isn’t good. With these people behaving like this, it’s a wonder Xiao Yu can have a good relationship with them.”
Wang Jinhe nodded in agreement, “Exactly, right? How heartless must Su Yu’s mother be to treat her severely injured son this way?”
If it were Xiao Bao who was severely injured, she would stay by his side day and night until he fully recovered. These people are simply crazy.
“Regardless of that, looking at Xiao Yu’s current state, it’s probably impossible for them to reconcile forever.” Treating Su Yu badly in the past was one thing, but treating Yuan Bao like this now is driving Su Yu to break ties with them, isn’t it?
“Indeed.” Su Yu had said before that he didn’t want to see them. This time, when he goes back, he’s likely to directly confront them.
But that’s understandable too; if it were her, she would be even more ruthless.
“Daddy’s Mom and Dad are really bad, Uncle Yuan Bao is so nice,” Xiao Bao said, his face puffed up with anger.
Wang Jinhe reached out and ruffled Xiao Bao’s hair, affectionately saying, “Yes, they’re very bad, how could they do such things, it’s simply insane.”
“I hope Yuan Bao will be okay.”
“We can only hope.”
After Su Yu left, life in the Wang family continued. However, the village chief and the others, knowing that the engagement date had been postponed by half a month, came over to inquire.
They learned that Su Yu had urgent family matters, and they were concerned that he might not make it back in time, which was the reason for the delay.
After hearing this, the village chief was completely reassured.
Wang Jinhe was in Her room, earnestly sketching a blueprint. Once she finished, he went to find Wang Dagui and the others, saying, “Dad, Grandpa, could you take a look at this?”
“What is it?” Wang Dagui asked as he walked over.
“It’s a simple threshing machine that I designed. It will make threshing much easier,” Wang Jinhe explained the blueprint briefly to Wang Dagui.
Grandpa Wang overheard their discussion and came over to join. Once he understood the principle of the threshing machine, his eyes lit up. “If this thing can be made, it will truly benefit the people.”
“I’m not really interested in benefiting the people. I just want to make it to make our lives more convenient,” Wang Jinhe said without hesitation.
Grandpa Wang couldn’t help but chuckle. “You, kid, to make something like this just for the sake of laziness, you’re quite something. But what about the roller? Everything else can be made with wood, but the roller is a bit tricky.”
“For the roller, I can go to the blacksmith shop. It’s still some time before the autumn harvest, so I can take my time to make it properly. We have several acres of rice field in our family, and we can use it ourselves later. If people we know need it, we can lend it to them as well,” Wang Jinhe explained.
“Alright, I’ll go to the blacksmith shop to order one.”
“Okay.”
While Wang Jinhe was busy designing the threshing machine and grain thresher, Su Yu had already returned. It took him only four days to reach home, and he looked utterly disheveled upon arrival.
Su Jiu frowned when she saw Su Yu covered in dust and asked, “Why the rush?”
“Brother, how’s Yuan Bao?” Su Yu couldn’t wait, ignoring his own appearance.
“Yuan Bao has been running a fever on and off these past few days. Although we’ve taken good care of him over the years, but once the body is injured, issues still arise,” Su Jiu explained with a furrowed brow.
Yuan Bao’s body was indistinguishable from that of a normal person when he wasn’t sick or injured. However, when he did get hurt or fell ill, his condition would be much more severe than that of an average person, and recovery was very difficult.
“I’ll go over there first,” Su Yu said with a stern expression.
“I’ll go with you,” Su Jiu, worried that Su Yu might lose control, decided to accompany him.
Su Yu didn’t mind at all and was fine with her joining. He had no reason to stop her.
When Su Yu and Su Jiu arrived, Yang Shanshan was in the midst of consuming some health supplements, and she appeared as if nothing had happened.
Yang Shanshan was taken aback when she saw Su Yu and Su Jiu approaching, especially when she saw Su Yu. She felt inexplicably guilty.
“Xiao Yu, you’re back,” looking at Su Yu’s disheveled appearance, Yang Shanshan knew that he had rushed back as soon as he received the news, and he hadn’t even rested before coming here.
“Don’t call me like that; I’m afraid it might shorten my life,” Su Yu’s words pained Yang Shanshan.
“Xiao Yu, I know this is my fault, but he’s just a servant, and you…”
With a loud “bang,” Su Yu grabbed the nearby chair and hurled it across the room.
Yang Shanshan stared at Su Yu in astonishment, then turned to look at the chair behind her, her eyes filled with disbelief. “Xiao Yu, you…”
