Yu Cheng looked at Yu Wanlai oddly: ‘Is this son… why is he so… soft and clingy?‘
Startled by the increasingly strange thoughts in his mind, Yu Cheng quickly stopped his runaway thoughts. He then turned to Yu Qingyue, suggesting, “Qingyue, how about… you both go together today?”
Yu Cheng had always been quite troubled by the relationship between these two sons. Currently, Yu Qingyue was only responsible for some of the head office’s affairs, while the majority of the group’s business was still handled by Yu Cheng and Qin Shuang. Therefore, the family members were not working at the same location, and even their directions were different. Normally, the two family drivers were just enough, but if Yu Wanlai went off on his own, they would have to hire another driver, which Yu Cheng thought was unnecessary.
Yu Qingyue was suddenly unsure of what to say: “…Okay, I understand.”
This really was shooting himself in the foot!
In the car, Yu Qingyue sat on the left, gazing out the window without giving Yu Wanlai a single glance. It was rush hour, so by the time they reached the company, it was already late.
When Yu Wanlai got out of the car and was about to speak, he was ignored by Yu Qingyue, and he could only follow him into the private elevator.
In the elevator, the two men’s figures were clearly reflected. Yu Qingyue was slightly shorter than Yu Wanlai, but Yu Wanlai had to admit, the male lead really was the male lead. His body proportions were outstanding, with a slender waist and long legs. Yu Wanlai looked at himself again, nodding in satisfaction. Well, he wasn’t bad either!
Yu Wanlai glanced at the floor number displayed in the elevator, then looked at the reflection on the door: “So, brother, you’re on the 18th floor. Doesn’t that mean… it’s a bit unlucky when you go down every day?”
Yu Qingyue gave him a sideways glance, his voice tinged with impatience: “First: Don’t call me brother in the company. Don’t reveal our relationship…”
Yu Wanlai: “Why can’t I say it? I’m still Yu too, and anyone with a brain can guess, right?” Do you even know what you’re saying? Besides, he had a shortcut, why couldn’t he use it?
“Second: Stay away from me!”
Just then, the elevator arrived, and Yu Qingyue, as though he hadn’t heard Yu Wanlai’s dissatisfaction, walked straight to his office.
Yu Wanlai sighed, thinking how difficult the male lead was. Why was he starting to bother him again?
Yu Qingyue’s office took up most of the 18th floor. Behind his desk was a large floor-to-ceiling window, with several black-and-white sofas and coffee tables beside it. On the other side was a whole row of bookshelves. Yu Wanlai walked over and was about to casually take a book from the shelf when he heard a knock on the door.
Assistant Xu Ran had just gone downstairs to grab a cup of coffee. When he heard from the staff in the CEO’s office that the CEO had arrived, he quickly put down the coffee and rushed to Yu Qingyue’s office with his schedule book.
Xu Ran opened the door and, as usual, walked up to the desk, looking at the man in the chair: “Good morning, Mr. Yu. Here are some urgent documents, and this is last month’s report. They all need your signature. I’ll also brief you on today’s…”
Yu Qingyue took the documents from Xu Ran and put them aside, interrupting Xu Ran’s next words: “It’s fine. Other arrangements can wait. Take him to complete the registration process first. He’s your new colleague from now on.”
Xu Ran put down his notebook and looked at Yu Qingyue in confusion: “Who?”
He then turned to look around the office and suddenly noticed that the person was standing right behind him.
Xu Ran turned around and took a half step back, exhaling a breath. “Damn, that scared me! Where did he come from? How could he walk without making a sound?” He couldn’t help but glance at Yu Wanlai’s feet. Thankfully, they were on the ground.
Yu Wanlai squinted and smiled, appearing friendly. He extended a hand to Xu Ran. “Hello, I’m… ‘Yu’ Wanlai. We’ll be colleagues from now on. Please take care of me!” He emphasized the pronunciation of “Yu.”
Xu Ran also extended his hand and shook it. “Hello, I’m Assistant Xu Ran.”
Yu Qingyue looked up and gave Yu Wanlai an eye roll, then instructed, “Alright, if there’s nothing else, you both can leave. Close the door.”
After the two left, the office finally quieted down.
Yu Wanlai followed Xu Ran to the third floor to complete the paperwork. When they got to the part about educational background, Yu Wanlai noticed the HR lady looking at him differently. It seemed like she was eyeing him suspiciously, not liking him but also somewhat intimidated. She probably thought he was some distant relative of the Yu family. Most of Yu Shi’s employees knew that the company only had one son, the young CEO, so no one would think he was Yu Qingyue’s real brother.
The HR lady handed him a badge. “This is your employee badge and access card. Please keep it safe.”
After completing the registration, Yu Wanlai returned to the 18th floor. While walking towards the CEO’s office, he looked down at the badge in his hand. Who would have thought that after all the twists and turns, he still made it into the company? He wasn’t sure what position the antagonist had in the original story, but since he had no interest in the corporate side, he had only glanced at a few things. He did remember that the original body had caused the company some trouble and eventually found itself in a big crisis.
Yu Wanlai thought to himself: “Wow, one person almost messed up such a big company. He really deserved what he got!”
Just as Xu Ran finished reporting today’s schedule to Yu Qingyue, he noticed that Yu Wanlai had completed the registration and was heading toward his workstation. Xu Ran gave him an odd look, realizing that his clothes were similar to those of the young CEO. He then remembered the CEO’s instruction to assign him some simple, not-so-important tasks.
Xu Ran thought: “I’m really curious… what kind of work in the CEO’s office is considered unimportant… What’s his status? The CEO doesn’t seem to be fond of him.”
Yu Wanlai noticed Xu Ran’s scrutinizing gaze and smiled with a slight curve to his lips. “So, what’s next for me…?” He knew this would happen. The more mysterious someone was, the more it would pique people’s curiosity. It would have been better if they just clarified their relationship, but his dear little brother refused to let him. He couldn’t speak up, though. Life wasn’t easy, and he wasn’t comfortable in the suit. Yu Wanlai covered his head with a sigh.
The CEO’s office had a total of three assistants, plus Yu Wanlai, making four in total. The other two assistants were female. After half the morning passed, Yu Wanlai had practically gathered all the details about their height and weight.
Xu Ran twitched the corner of his mouth. This mysterious newcomer… his social skills were truly impressive! It would be a waste not to use him as an undercover agent.
During lunch break, as Xu Ran was about to get up, he was stopped by Yu Wanlai’s voice. “Assistant Xu, would you like to have lunch? Let’s go together?”
The two female assistants also nodded in agreement, looking at Xu Ran. Normally, Xu Ran was much busier than they were and didn’t seem approachable, so they usually ate separately.
Under the three pairs of eyes, Xu Ran nodded woodenly.
Yu Wanlai stood up. “Then I’ll go call… brother… Mr. Yu!” He clicked his tongue. He wasn’t used to that form of address.
The other three immediately looked at Yu Wanlai with an expression they couldn’t quite describe. What kind of relationship did he have with the young CEO? Which assistant would eat lunch with the CEO?
Yu Wanlai noticed their reactions and sat back down. “What’s wrong?”
Xu Ran whispered, “No one’s CEO would eat lunch with their assistants. And the young CEO always has lunch with the exclusive cafeteria dishes alone.”
Yu Wanlai glanced at the closed office door. He also wanted to eat the exclusive dishes together, mainly because watching his little brother eat was really interesting. Besides, wasn’t this a bit too discriminatory? They were both from the Yu family—just because his identity was the antagonist!
After getting familiar with the route to the company, Yu Wanlai started riding his motorcycle to work every day. On his commute, Yu Qingyue regained his quiet time, with no one shouting in his ear early every morning.
One morning, after parking his bike in the basement and about to leave, a woman in a body-hugging skirt and a fur shawl grabbed his wrist. “Wanlai, I finally found you… Why haven’t you been in touch with your mom for so long?”
